2 Overview of the EMUA

About This Chapter

Applicable to all types of BTSs/NodeBs manufactured by Huawei, the outdoor environmentmonitoring unit (EMUA) is used to monitor the environment in the equipment room and thecabinet.

2.1 Functions of the EMUAThis describes the functions of the EMUA. Providing a variety of input ports for monitoringsignals, the EMUA supports real-time monitoring and remote monitoring. In addition, theEMUA is highly reliable and can be flexibly configured. It supports a large area for temperaturemonitoring.

2.2 Exterior of the EMUAEach Module of EMUA has three types of exterior A, B, and C.

2.3 Internal Structure of the EMUAThis describes the internal structure of the EMUA.

2.4 Communication Ports on the EMUAThe EMUA provides the RS485 and RS232 ports for the communication between the EMUAand the BTS/NodeB. Specifically, the EMUA4832 provides an independent commissioningport.

2.5 Monitoring Ports of the EMUAThe EMUA provides monitoring ports for the humidity/temperature sensor, smoke sensor, watersensor, infrared sensor, and door status sensor. In addition, the EMUA provides monitoring portsfor the Boolean signal sensor, analog signal sensor, and output control sensor, which are extendedsensors.

2.6 Technical Specifications of the EMUAThis describes the technical specifications of the EMUA.

Functions of the EMUAPower Input

The EMUA supports input voltage detection. The alarm threshold for the input voltage can beconfigured on the BTS/NodeB and delivered to the EMUA.

The EMUA provides two power input ports, which are protected from inverse connections.

l The EMUA2416 and EMUA2432 support +24 V DC power input, and the voltage canrange from +18 V DC to +36 V DC.

l The EMUA4832 supports -48 V DC power input, and the voltage can range from -36 VDC to -72 V DC.

Environment Monitoring

l The EMUA provides an independent port for +12 V/+24 V DC current-type (4 mA - 20mA) humidity/temperature sensors. The temperature monitoring range is -20oC [-4oF] to80oC [176oF].

l The EMUA provides four ports for monitoring analog signals. Voltage-type (0 V - 5 V)sensors and current-type (4 mA - 20 mA) sensors can be used. The types of monitoredanalog signals can be configured through the DIP switch settings according to the BTS/NodeB configuration.

Boolean Signal Monitoring

The EMUA provides ports for monitoring Boolean signals. Dry contact point signals and OCsignals are supported.

l The EMUA2416 supports 16 ports for Boolean signal monitoring.

l The EMUA2432 or EMUA4832 supports 32 ports for Boolean signal monitoring.

Relay Node Control

The EMUA provides six output control ports for external Boolean signals of the relay node type.

Communication Ports

The EMUA provides two RS-485 ports, which are used for the communication between theEMUA and the BTS/NodeB.

Comparison Between the Functions of the Three EMUA Models

Table 2-1 lists the functions of the three EMUA models for you to make a comparison.

Step 2 Check the communication between the EMUA and the BTS/NodeB.1. Ensure that the EMUA has passed the power-on check.2. On the Service Maintenance System of the BTS/NodeB, establish the communication

between the BTS/NodeB and the EMUA.3. Check the status of the indicators on the EMUA.

Check that the green indicator on the EMUA blinks once every two seconds.

Step 3 Check the running status of the EMUA.1. Ensure that the EMUA has passed the communication check.2. Read the data of the sensors and the voltage on the Service Maintenance System of the

BTS/NodeB.

Check that the data is correct.

7 Handling Common Faults

This describes the solutions to common faults in the EMUA.

Table 7-1 lists the solutions to common faults in the EMUA.

Symptom Solution

The power indicator is OFF. Check whether the power cable is inversely connected.

Check whether the protection tubes F1, F2, F3, and F4 areburned out.

The EMUA fails tocommunicate with the BTS/NodeB.

Check whether the communication cables are intact.

Check whether the communication protocol is correctlyconfigured.

The relay malfunctions. Check whether the output cabling of the relay is correct.

Boolean value input fails. Check whether the alarming states are correctly set.

Check whether the cabling is correct.

The humidity/temperaturesensor generates an alarm atnormal temperatures.

Check whether the humidity/temperature sensor iscorrectly connected.

Check whether the alarming threshold is correctly set.

The humidity/temperaturequery results are invalid values.

Check whether the humidity/temperature sensor iscorrectly connected.

Check whether the DIP switch SW_THE is correctly set.

Check whether the sensor fails, for example, by comparingit with another sensor.

The water sensor generates afalse alarm.

Check whether the water sensor is correctly connected.

Check whether the first bit of the DIP switch SW_BKE iscorrectly set.

Symptom Solution

The smoke sensor generates afalse alarm.

Check whether the smoke sensor is correctly connected.

Check whether the second bit of the DIP switch SW_BKEis correctly set.

The infrared sensor generates afalse alarm.

Check whether the infrared sensor is correctly connected.

Check whether the third bit of the DIP switch SW_BKE iscorrectly set.

The door status sensor generatesa false alarm.

Check whether the button on the door status sensor ispressed into the correct position.

Check whether the door status sensor is correctlyconnected.

Check whether the fourth bit of the DIP switch SW_BKEis correctly set.

Analog value measurementfails.

Check whether associated DIP switches are correctly set.

NOTE

When the EMUA2416 generates an alarm, check whether the factory settings of the DIP switches SW24Aand SW24B are changed. If they are changed, restore them to their original states (OFF).
