Position Vacant The College is seeking to appoint a Secondary PDHPE and PASS teacher to a 0.7 – 1.0 FTE on-going position with an option to be considered for Position of Responsibility as Sports Coordinator (K-12 or 7-12)

Experience in well-being programs such as Invictus and a capacity to teach in other areas will be considered an advantage.

Charlton Christian College is a well-established K-12 Christian College of 620 students at Lake Macquarie. It was founded as Lake Macquarie Christian College in 1998 by the Christian Education Foundation and relocated to its current site, a year later and in 2005 renamed as Charlton Christian College. The Foundation’s Board of Directors is elected from the Association members and most are past or current parents. Charlton is a member of CSA (Christian Schools Australia) and AIS (The Association of Independent Schools). Staff are committed Christians and enjoy outstanding staff facilities and a positive supportive environment.

The Role The successful applicant will:

Overall 1. Be a committed Christian and an active member of a Christian Church, with a strong passion

for Christian community. 2. Have a current Working with Children’s Check 3. Be a team-player and work collegially with staff. 4. Demonstrate high level communication and interpersonal skills. 5. Participate fully in supporting the Christian Ethos of the College, with a willingness to

contribute to its academic, pastoral and co-curricular life. 6. Have a strong commitment to own ongoing professional learning and improvement.

Teacher 1. Be a qualified and Secondary teacher with high capacity, comprehensive knowledge of NESA

syllabus documents and significant experience in teaching Stage 4 - Stage 6. 2. Be an exceptional practitioner, demonstrating the ability to effectively implement teaching

programs in PDHPE, PASS and Christian Life Studies, catering for a wide range of learning styles and abilities.

3. Demonstrate skill and understanding in differentiating the curriculum and making adjustments to cater for a wide range of learning needs and ability levels.

4. Demonstrate a high level of competence in the assessment of student learning against the NESA K-10 A-E Performance Standards

5. Utilise a variety of management techniques in order to establish a safe, settled and supportive learning environment where children are nurtured to reach their God-given potential.

6. Work in partnership with staff and parents to ensure that students are well supported academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, at their stage of development.

7. Demonstrate experience with the use of ICT equipment and systems, in order to provide meaningful integration of digital technology in the classroom.

Optional K-12 or 7-12 Sports Coordinator (dependent on interest) Provide leadership and effective management of sport across K-12 or 7-12. This role includes responsibility for the Sporting Schools grants and programs, the College’s annual sports carnivals which includes Swimming, Athletics and Cross- Country, as well as coordination of involvement in interschool zone (THACCCSA) and state (CSSA / CIS) team sport competitions in Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Touch, Oztag etc.

The K-12 position would be a 0.4 – 0.5 FTE position while the Y7-12 position would be a 0.2 – 0.25 FTE. The Sports Coordinator portion of the position , it is also supported by a part-time tem time Sports Administrator.

The Selection Process Short-listing will be undertaken by members of a selection panel. All applicants will be notified of the selection panels’ decisions within two weeks of the closing date.

Only short-listed applicants will be interviewed. The interview will consist of a series of questions based on determining the capacity of the applicants to undertake the role description. Applicants will be given the opportunity to explain and expand on the information provided in their application.

Applicants may be required to give examples of how they would handle case scenario situations.

Short-listed applicants for the position may be required to undertake trial lesson and be observed in the classroom by the panel members.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of interviews and unsuccessful applicants may, at the discretion of the panel, obtain feedback on their application and interview by contacting the selection panel.

General Employment Conditions Wages and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the relevant award and the current CSA NSW Multi-Site Industrial Agreement.

Payments are made directly to a bank/credit union account on a fortnightly basis.

The College is a smoke free environment. No smoking or alcohol consumption is permitted on campus or whilst operating any vehicle.

Policies and procedures are in place for College staff including those required by workplace laws. It is important that these policies and procedures are adhered to.

Position Description The staff of Charlton Christian College are the College’s greatest asset. We have the privilege of partnering with parents as we assist them in the nurture of their children. The call to teach is indeed a high calling and we rely on God, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.

Teachers exhibit godly relationships and maintain good relationships with other staff, students, and parents. She / He adopts a co-operative spirit, sensitively expresses convictions on professional matters and accepting group decisions graciously and abides by same. Teachers use discretion and consideration in speaking of the College or of colleagues and reflect a spirit of Christian love in dealing with students. The teacher provides for individual emotional, physical and social differences and stimulates the development of Christian character inside and outside of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities: Consistent with the Biblical basis of the College and its values and culture, teachers are responsible for demonstrating the Australian standards for teachers within the three domains of Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement. Know the content and how to teach it This involves

1. knowledge of the Bible as it relates to content and the teaching of content 2. understanding the philosophical framework(s) influencing the ways in which content is

framed and the ways in which a Christian perspective may be taught to students 3. applying knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area to

develop engaging teaching activities 4. organising content into coherent, well-sequenced learning and teaching programs. 5. designing and implementing learning and teaching programs using knowledge of

curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.

Professional Practice Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning This involves

1. appropriate integration of a Christian perspective throughout programs 2. setting explicit, challenging and achievable learning goals for all students 3. planning and implementing well-structured learning and teaching programs or lesson

sequences that engage students and promote learning. 4. selecting and using relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem

solving and critical and creative thinking. 5. selecting and/or creating and use a range of resources, including ICT, to engage

students in their learning. 6. using effective verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to support student

3. establishing and maintaining orderly and workable routines to create an environment where student time is spent on learning tasks.

4. managing challenging behaviour by establishing and negotiating clear expectations with students and address discipline issues promptly, fairly and respectfully.

5. ensuring students’ wellbeing and safety within school by implementing school and/ or system, curriculum and legislative requirements

6. incorporating strategies to promote the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching.

Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning This involves

1. developing a personal philosophy of Christian Education based on Biblical principles 2. developing, selecting and using informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and

summative assessment strategies to assess student learning. 3. providing timely, effective and appropriate feedback to students about their achievement

relative to their learning goals. 4. understanding and participating in assessment moderation activities to support

consistent and comparable judgements of student learning 5. using student assessment data to analyse and evaluate student understanding of

subject/content, identifying interventions and modifying teaching practice.

3. establishing and maintaining respectful collaborative relationships with parents/ carers regarding their children’s learning and wellbeing.

4. participating in professional and community networks and forums to broaden knowledge and improve practice.

Sports Coordinator (optional): Overall: To facilitate participation and excellence in sport at Charlton Christian College

Directly responsible to:

Head of Schools, Deputy Principal; as well as the Principal

Specific Responsibilities

1. Develop positive partnerships with students, parents and staff to foster an encouraging, challenging sporting environment that focuses on the development of high levels of skill, sportsmanship and participation.

2. The person will need to support the Christian ethos of the College. 3. Demonstrate a professional approach to teaching and a high level of skill in classroom

teaching and coaching. 4. Actively support the co-curricular program of the College through leadership of sporting

teams. 5. Organise the College’s sports program on an annual, monthly, weekly and daily basis

including referees, teams, facilities and transport to various venues with a particular focus on Years 7-12. This includes preparation of dates for the College’s calendar and organisation of THACCCSA and CSSA Gala Days and Carnivals.

6. Ensure that work place health and safety requirements are met and procedures for meeting these standards are recorded.

7. Develop and maintain a development plan for sport including requirements for facilities. 8. Build relationship with wider community agencies and oversee sporting organisations,

such as application of “Sports in Schools” grants and communication with local sporting clubs and bodies.

9. Liaise with grounds and maintenance staff to ensure that grounds are ready in good time for all sporting activities.

10. Oversee the Sports Administrator in maintaining equipment including stock takes and ensure that adequate care is given to equipment.

11. Set and manage annual and long term sports budgets. 12. Attend sports meetings of related organisations including THACCCSA, CSSA and CIS. 13. Attend Professional Development program such as Conferences and Workshops

provided by relevant sporting and educational organisations. 14. Liaise with the college’s Marketing Manager and assist with the promotion of sport at

Charlton through newsletter, HQ and other social media. 15. Liaise with Head of Senior School in the process of selection for House Captaincy. 16. Allocate responsibilities to the House Captains and oversee their activities. 17. Delegate various tasks to the Sports Administrator according to the position description.

Aspects Sporting Schools Program (3 terms out of 4)

1. Write grant application 2. Seek and contact providers 3. Organise program 4. Budget the program 5. Evaluate

THACCCSA (Taree, Hunter, Central Coast Christian Schools Australia) Sports Association Zone

• Attend meetings to organise dates and other specifics such as allocation of responsibilities for Gala Days

• Fulfil the responsibility that has been allocated, such as organise a zone gala day, this may include: o Booking the venue o Communicating to other schools via email and ask for team submission o Producing draws o Distributing draws to other schools o Obtaining WHS form of the venue (may be assisted by admin) o Completing Risk Assessment and distribute to other schools o Running the day and deal with the various issues that may arise on the day

CSSA/CIS – Talented Students Representative Pathways 1. Completing Team Nominations when teams advance beyond the Zone Level 2. Maintaining knowledge of Trial Dates for CSSA and CIS State Trials 3. Informing students when Trials are being held (maintaining knowledge of which

students possibility could attend trials) 4. Completing Trial Nominations when a student wish to attend a Trial

Work Health and Safety: • promote a positive safety culture in the College; • support the Principal in the establishment of a WHS Management System and in the

Business Manager; • adopt risk management strategies to minimise risk of injury to people and property in the

• Personal Development - You shall undertake such in-service training or other professional development seen as necessary by the College to maintain high standards and shall participate in the College’s performance review program and bring to the attention of the Business Manager any needs for personal professional development.

• Inherent Requirements - You are required to acknowledge that it is an inherent requirement of the position to conform with the doctrines, tenets, beliefs or teachings of Christianity as espoused and interpreted by the College.

• Working Hours – Your working hours are according to the above days and times. The College may require you to work for reasonable periods out of hours in relation to extracurricular activities. Any approved time off in lieu in exchange for these periods is to be taken within six months of the activities.

• The terms of the Charlton Christian College Collective Bargaining Agreement (EBA) apply to your employment.

• The College retains the right to re-allocate or change your duties as the need arises.
