Employee/Employer Committee Call for New Community Representative Employee/Employer Committee Summary The Employee/Employer Committee is a committee appointed by and under the direction of Council, established to provide general support to the management of Human Resources within the First Nation. This committee will act as a liaison between the employer and the employees and facilitate positive working relationships within the First Nation Organization. Mandate and Objectives: The Employee/Employer committee has a mandate from Council to support and ensure that principles established within the Human Resource Management Manual are upheld and the professional relationship is honored.

a) Council will make the final decision on any changes to the current organizational structure and/or Policies;

b) The current level of professional services will not be compromised, and should improve; c) The First Nation’s organization through this policy are seeking clarity and consistency in its

relationship with its employees; d) Recommendations for positive change must incorporate fiscal responsibility; e) This committee does not have a mandate to negotiate on behalf of any or all employees of the

First Nation.

Objectives, Activities and Committee Roles and Responsibilities The objectives, activities and roles and responsibilities of the Employee/Employer Committee are to:

a) To act as a liaison between, staff and Council; b) To implement the Employee Recognition program; c) Provide general support to the management of Human Resources within the First Nation; d) Facilitate positive working relationships within the First Nation Organization; e) Report to Council on suggested recommendations for positive change; f) Identify areas of ongoing concern.

Committee Structure and Membership The Employee/Employer Committee will consist of:

a) Two (2) members of Council who shall be appointed by Council and who shall share in the duties of Committee Chairperson;

b) Two (2) staff representatives of Curve Lake First Nation who shall be selected by the staff; c) One (1) Curve Lake First Nation member who shall be appointed by Council.

Minaajim: Good Stories from Curve Lake First Nation Sabkeshiinh (The Spider)

As told by Doug Williams to Julie Kapyrka

Basically, the spider is the one who tells us that whatever happens to one thing will happen to another thing. You cannot get away with eliminating one thing without eliminating another.

Spider was created to weave the web of life. Every strand in the web of life is connected. And every connection is essential. Without that connection, life will not carry on.

This story is an old story and told to us for a reason—so we will respect all of life. Everything has a purpose. Even the lowly mosquito, the house fly, poison ivy….

This story reminds me of what I hear is happening to wild rice on Pigeon Lake. I hear people want to get rid of this sacred plant that was given to us by Creator.

You cannot get rid of wild rice without getting rid of something else. There is a connection between wild rice being healthy and the health of the lake itself.

Wild rice has had trouble growing over the past 100 years because of all the boating, the development of cottages, and the altering of shorelines that resulted in the poisoning of the lake. This in itself also affected the other plants and animals in the lake. We do not have a good situation for that lake.

We must learn from Spider. What we are doing to that lake is affecting all life. And if we don’t take care of it we will lose it and ….

The point is that once again we have to turn to the spider to remind us that we must look after life. We must promote the wild rice; we must let it grow. And people have to learn to appreciate this beautiful creation and the connection it has to other life forms.

If we lose one strand of that web of life, it affects all other things, everything, including yourself. We thank the spider Sabkeshiinh for his teachings: “Miigwech.”

Everything is related so whatever you do to the water, and whatever you do to the land will consequently affect the wind and vice versa – and all of this impacts the earth herself and thus all living things.

People have pulled out, cut, and poisoned the beautiful plant manoomin (wild rice) and it has been portrayed publically as a bad aquatic weed. To me, this is like saying let’s stop the wind, let’s stop life.

All life is connected and we must honour and respect that. It concerns me that we are selling water and soon we’ll be having to buy clean air … but that is another story.

* Know where your well is located. Extend the casing above grade, if buried.

* Watch for changes in the taste, odor and color of the water.

* Have a sample tested for bacteria at least once a year - more often if problems are suspected or

if the well is very shallow.

* Test for nitrate-nitrogen every three years. Note: test for sodium plus nitrate-nitrogen to verify

contaminant source from septic system.

* Disinfect the well with chlorine after doing any work on the inside of the well or pumping

equipment.

* Inspect the inside of the well at least once a year. Early spring just after the snow has melted is a

good time. Also,

* look for signs of surface water seeping or running freely into the well; look for seepage

through cracks or stains on the inside of the casing

* check the seal around the plumbing inlets into the well casing (dug or bored) or well pit,

and replace sealing material if water is seeping in from outside the well

* remove any debris floating in the well and prevent further debris from entering the well

* Compare your well construction to the diagrams that show proper techniques.

* Inspect the cover or sanitary seal for cracks and holes.

* Check the condition of well vents.

* Watch for settling of the ground around the outside of the well casing.

* Mound up the ground around the outside of the well or well pit with clean earth.

* Keep all potential contamination sources away from the top of the well.

* Maintain a permanent grassed buffer at least 3 meters (10 ft.) around your well.

Blue Sky Therapy Expressive Arts Group for Kids

This group will utilize art making as way to understand and cope with youth issues in a supportive inclusive group format.

Groups will use a mindfulness CBT approach to identify individuals’, feelings, thought patterns, cognitive beliefs and actions in their everyday activities.

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life. People often experience a general state of worry or fear before confronting something challenging such as a test, examination, recital, or interview. These feelings are easily justified and considered normal. Anxiety is considered a problem when symptoms interfere with a person's ability to sleep or otherwise function. Generally speaking, anxiety occurs when a reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected in a situation. If you experience any of the following symptoms you should talk to your doctor or health care provider.

The Medicine Wheel is an interconnected system of teachings relating to the seasons, directions, elements, colours

and the cycle of life. It speaks of the need for balance, harmony and respect. Being able to find balance and harmony helps a person live a moral, noble, intuitive and spiritual life. The Medicine Wheel is used to address the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs as well as assist the youths to try to follow the path of a good and healthy life and to respect the Creator, the earth and each other. This is only one version of the Medicine Wheel

teachings; other variations exist.

EMPLOYMENT OFFICER Duties:

• Responsible for completion of intake and assessment on individual clients to identify employment or training needs

• Responsible for providing vocational counselling and identifying/developing career plans with clients • Responsible for organizing and conducting job search courses • Responsible for linking clients with employment opportunities • Responsible for the operation of the Employment Resource Centre • Responsible for arranging and delivering upgrading programs and for identifying and communicating

employment opportunities • Responsible for administering the Kagita Mikam Purchase of Service Programs • Responsible for maintaining a labour force data base • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of training and job creation proposals • Performs other related duties as may reasonably be required

GATE OPERATOR (2 Positions) Petroglyphs Provincial Park

Duties:

• Responsible for the collection of fees for admittance into the Petroglyphs Provincial Park • Responsible for maintaining a daily journal of the park permits issued • Responsible for the reconciliation of park permits and revenue on a daily basis • Responsible for the distribution of information to visitors as required • Responsible for wearing a uniform and badge as required by the Curve Lake First Nation

QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements: (APPLICANTS MUST SHOW NECESSARY PROOF WITH APPLICATION OR WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY SCREENED OUT) Education:

• Minimum of Grade 12 Other:

The successful candidate(s) must be committed to work the entire duration of the contract. The rate of pay for this position is $13.00/hour. Hours of work will vary between 24 to 32 hours per week.
