LISD provides technology resources to its employees for educational and
administrative purposes.

All employees are expected to use the computers and computer networks in a responsible and ethical
manner.
EXPECTATIONS
Acceptable Use: Follow Copyright Laws
• Teachers and students should always document their source.
• Teachers and students should always follow the copyright laws.

Prior to using technology resources, teachers and students should review the Network Access
General Use Guidelines for Students together.

Protect students from inappropriate material and behavior
While students are sitting near technology resources:
Protect all equipment from vandalism

Insure students that use computers have signed the “Network Access General Use Guidelines for Students”

Acceptable Use: Protect Students from
Cyberbullying• Cyberbullying is threatening, tormenting, harassing, humiliating, or embarrassing another student using digital technology, such as a cell phone, computer, or social networking (blogs, chat rooms, forums).
•Report Cyberbullying immediately to an administrator.
• Supervise students while on the Internet at all times.
• Do not allow students to enter online chat rooms or social networking websites.
• Review appropriate online behavior with students.

Engage Students in Collaborative Conversations
Encouraging students to engage in collaborative conversations while using technology tools is an acceptable use of technology.

Violating Password Privacy
•Attempting to read, delete, send, copy or modify the electronic mail of other users is unacceptable.

•Not protecting your password, sharing your password or another user’s password with anyone is unacceptable.

Attempting to or submitting, publishing or displaying any defamatory, inaccurate, racially offensive, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, or threatening materials or messages
either public or private is unacceptable.

Unacceptable Use:
Disabling the Filtering Software
Disabling the filtering software that blocks access to visual depictions that are obscene, pornographic, inappropriate for students, or harmful to minors, as defined by the Children’s Internet Protection Act and as determined by the Superintendent or designee is unacceptable.

resources, files, and documents of

Unacceptable Use: Harming Equipment
Attempting to or harming equipment, materials or data, including knowingly
placing a computer virus on a computer or a network is unacceptable.
Email Acceptable Use
Staff members should set aside time daily to check, respond to, and maintain email messages.
All communication via email is governed by the Open Records Act.
Notify the campus principal immediately of any unsolicited email, particularly if it is of a “hate
mail” nature.
Unacceptable Use of Email: Sharing Personal Information
Email Violations
Requests for personal information on students or staff members should not be honored via email.
Usernames and passwords should not be sent via email for
any reason. Requests for student grades, discipline,
attendance or related information should not be communicated via email unless a signed
Release of Student Records is on file on
the campus.
Unacceptable Use of Email
• Email access is provided for school business and limited personal use. Staff members may not forward messages that have no educational or professional use.
• District email may not be used for commercial purposes. Staff members may not send emails with the intent of advertising or selling any item, product or service, whether personal or for a business, as this is considered commercial use and is not permitted.

Attachments to emails should not
include program files (.exe)

Should an employee receive a program file (.exe), the message should be deleted
immediately without saving or opening the
attachment.

Consequences of Improper Use
• Improper or unethical use may result in disciplinary actions as identified in CQ Local.
• Restitution for costs associated with system restoration, hardware or software costs may be implemented.
• The District may suspend or revoke a system user’s access to the District’s system upon violation of District policy and/or administrative regulations regarding acceptable use.
