A Message From Your State Deputy, Robert D. WeitzmanMy Columbian Family:

I would like to thank you for re-electing me to the office of State Deputy. I will do my best to livup to your expectations. We just completed a very successful 121st New York State Convention and itwas so nice for me and my wife Connie to spend time with you. You are truly an inspiration to all. Wewere honored to have the Sisters of Life join us and they expressed their gratitude for our spiritual andfinancial support. Thank you for the many wonderful baby items, support to the raffles and your monetdonations.

This Columbian Year is coming to a close and there is still much to do. We must continue to provide services to our Church and Communities. We must continue to Build our Domestic Church. Th

following is a statement made by our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, "Today, the Knights of Columbu providentially positioned to play a key role in the new alliance between the Church and the family callefor by Pope Francis … What is necessary now is our greater involvement in the renewal of parish and

family life." It is also the time to evaluate and measure your council’s achievements. Now is the time to

finalize your efforts to achieve Star Council. I realize that your members’ efforts to fulfill the vision of

Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney is not based on receiving a plaque but it is still rewarding to knothat your efforts and achievements have not gone unnoticed. You should also keep in mind that if yourcouncil does achieve Star, Supreme will give you $4.50 per billable member.

We must continue to recruit and retain members. There is so much to be done to provide for thosin need and we need to grow in numbers to meet the needs of so many. The bestway to recruit is to ask the man sitting next to you in Church. The best way toretain members is to talk about how we are making a positive difference in ourChurch, our local communities and world community. Remind them that we areone in Christ, we are brothers and we are intricate parts of a Fraternal Organizationthat provide for those in need while building relationships with our Columbianfamily.

Let us all keep in our mind and heart our devotion to our Blessed VirginMary, the Mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Wishing all our ladies a

blessed Mother’s Day. Vivat Jesu!Bob Weitzman, SD

A Message from our Senior Associate State Chaplain,

    Fr. Brian McWeeney...

    My Brothers,

In the busyness of the season I became aware of some of you and your families

experiencing tragedies and family difficulties. I am praying for all. Especially in thismonth of May I have turned to Mary, the Mother of God. Her rosary reminds us ofthe life that the Holy Family led, the teaching of the Lord Jesus, the suffering heendured, and the salvation He offers us through the Church.

The Joyful Mysteries remind us of the lives of Jesus, Mary, Joseph. We witness theobedience of Mary, the patience of Joseph, and the humanity of the Son of God. TheLuminous Mysteries trace the public ministry of the Lord as He is baptized, attends tothe preaching of the Word, and finally shares Himself in the Eucharist. The SorrowfulMysteries reveal the depth of the Lord's love for us and displays the attitude we must

have in bearing our sufferings. The Glorious Mysteries reveal the strength of ourrelationship with God through the community of faith led to eternity under theguidance of the Spirit.

Let us all go to Mary and pray as a human family and Church family for peace in ourworld, charity in our homes, and therelief of all suffering. Mary, Mother ofGod, pray for us.

    Vivat Jesus,

    Father BrianSenior Associate State Chaplain

    “It’s all about the members!”

by  Sal Restivo, PSD, Membership Director“What a difference a month makes?” Ok I changed the words to

the song but the results of April’s recruitment numbers deserve a

song! We started off the Month with a 1984 intake number andover 1016 new members needed to recruit to reach our goal of3000. We did not attain our goal by the State convention, but wehave an excellent shot at it for June! As of April 29,we recruited2230 new members and need 770 to reach our goal!

Current Standings in NYS Membership Incentive Program

Reach for the STARS incentive program is still in place! Wally Wych has

been calling DDs who have councils that have the possibilities of reaching star

council. We want our councils to have every opportunity to gain the $4.50 /

billable member award from supreme. Are you close? What do you need to

do? Recruit? Take advantage of the $100 annuity program? Properly complete

the SP-7? Need help? Call 516-633-3423 and help will be on the way!

In the meantime keep recruiting and remember “Just ask him”.

Prayer to End AbortionLord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, And for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.

I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion,Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son.

I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.Today I commit myself Never to be silent,

Never to be passive, Never to be forgetful of the unborn.

I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, And never to stop defending life

Until all my brothers and sisters are protected, And our nation once again becomes

A nation with liberty and justiceNot just for some, but for all.

    Through Christ our Lord. Amen!

    Page 11

    The power of prayer!

    On a personal note:

I thank all my brothers who have prayed for my brother Joe and his familyduring his most recent health crisis.

Joe is my brother who made my nominating speech at the state conventionin 2011. I am sure those who were there remembered “shoelaces”.

I am happy to report that Joe is doing well after his last angiogram. He ishome and enjoying his new life in Florida.

Your prayers worked! Thank you and,

    Vivat Jesu!Sal
