    T-shirts, a prospect Dubrofskys

    freshman self would love.

Its amazing that I will be rep-

    resenting our chapter across the

    country, Dubrofsky said. I cant

wait to put my best foot forward

and bring a little bit of Terp spirit

    everywhere I go.

The Forget-Me-NotNews for alumnae of Alpha Phi at the University of Maryland

    Spring 2013

    Senior lands prestigious position

    When Chelsea Dubrof-

    sky joined Alpha Phi

    in 2010, she anticipat-

ed a fun distraction. She would

make new friends, dress up for

    formals and wear T-shirts bearing

    billboard letters and creative slo-

gans. She never expected that she

could turn Alpha Phi into a career. This winter, Dubrofsky was

    selected for an Educational Lead-

    ership Consultant position with

    Alpha Phi International. Educa-

    tional Leadership Consultants, or

    ELCs, are traveling alumnae who

are paid to develop chapters in

    recruitment, officer training, goal

    setting and more.

    The application process com-

    prises a written component and

    several interviews. Dubrofsky is

    among 15 current trainees chosen

    from thousands of applicants.

    The process is competitive,

    but very worthwhile, chapter

    advisor and former ELC Brittany

Fertig said. I feel that by working

    together with like-minded wom-

en, we were able to help each oth-

er reach our fullest potentials, live

fulfilled lives and continue to be

    philanthropic.When Dubrofsky received no-

    tification in December that she

would join the ELC team, she was

    ecstatic.

The ELC position is an amaz-

ing way to begin my career, she

said. I have the opportunity to

bring my passion to other chapters

    and connect with thousands of

my sisters.Dubrofsky will train at Alpha

    Phi headquarters in Evanston, Ill.

for three weeks in July and begin

    traveling immediately. After her

contract ends in March, she may

choose to continue as an ELC.

    According to Alpha Phi In-

    ternationals website, each ELC

travels to 14 states, visits 19 chap-

ters and collects an average of 22

    Alpha Phi joined forces with

    Phi Delta Theta to unite

    Greek life for an evening

    of philanthropy

    and fun.

    Last year,

    Phi Delt raised

    $10,000 for its

    national philan-

    thropy, the ALS

    A s s o c i a t i o n .

    The ALS As-

    sociation rais-es money and

    awareness for

    a m o t r o p h y i c

    lateral sclero-

    sis (ALS), also

    known as Lou

    Gehrigs disease.. The fraterni-

ty had higher aspirations for this

    years event.

We chose to partner with Al-

pha Phi this year because they are

all so motivated and fun to work

    with, Phi Delt

    treasurer and

    casino night

    chair Michael

    Gold said.

    They really

    went the extra

    mile for us.

    Phi Delt

    hosted the eventat its chapter

    house on Col-

    lege Avenue,

    but Alpha Phi

    enlisted sever-

    al of its sisters

    to decorate, make banners, de-

sign T-shirts and advertise for the

event online and through word of

    mouth. Alpha Phi also acquired

    corporate and family sponsors fo

the event and made its own finan

    cial contribution to co-sponsor the

    event.

    Gold explained that the frater

nity hired a company to provide

    casino tables and slot machines

    Guests dressed in cocktail attire

and Phi Delt brothers in bow-tie

    served refreshments. The Greek

    organizations with the most par

ticipants won money toward theiphilanthropies. This year, FIJ

    and Kappa Alpha Theta claimed

    the $500 prizes.

    We ended up raising more

than $13,000 and had about 400

people come out, a huge improve

ment from last year, Gold said

We hope to make it even bigge

    and better in the future.

    When construction on

    the Alpha Phi chapter

    house commenced in

the summer of 2011, it was un-

clear when the residence would belivable again.

They just kind of dove head

first into the project, house man-

    ager and sister Michelle Fernan-

dez said. Once they got going,

they promised us we could move

in the fall of 2012, which ended

up happening. So that was great.

    Phi Sigma Sigma and Alpha

Phi were the final sorority houses

at the university to receive face-

    lifts. Together, the renovations

    cost $13.7 million.

    Each house retained its foun-

dation and exterior, but was com-

pletely rebuilt from the inside. The

    chapter house was certainly due

    for the updates.

    Things were falling apart and

    the dcor needed serious updat-

    ing, Fernandez said. Luckily,

we were able to consult several

designers who are actually AlphaPhis themselves.

    The Alpha Phi House Corpo-

    ration Board helmed the project,

    but consulted house officers and

    housemother, Carol Lindblom.

    Lindblom, known affection-

ately as Ms. Lin, also benefited

from the upgrades. She has her

    own apartment within the house,

which includes a living area, of-

    fice, bathroom and spacious mas-

    ter bedroom.

The updates to the rest of the

house include a study lounge, two

    flat-screen televisions in each hall-

way, and the addition of two base-

ment suites. All furniture is also

    brand-new.Our house is amazing. The

whole sorority loves to come here

just to hang out. Its really helped

us become closer as a chapter,

    sister Maggie Sundel said.

For the most part, sisters have

    offered positive reviews of the

    new and improved digs.

Overall, I really like the new

    house, sister Ana Simon said

Its very pink, but when will

I ever get the chance to live in a

    pink house again?

house at any time to take a tour

    with a current sister.
