Aim of the session:•Explain the term ‘inclusion’ within the placement context,

•Describe the TIC pilots of 10/11, and data collated from staff and students re: placements,

•Demonstrate the TIC tool and resources supporting placements.

The TIC Strategy?

Aims to embed inclusion within the mainstream inclusive practices within the mainstream academic environment.

This includes off campus environments – e.g. placements, field trips etc.

What is Inclusion?

Good practice teaching, supervision and assessment practices that are student-centred and respond to the needs of ALL students.

•Inclusion is: holistic, flexible, proactive, clear.

TIC Plan of Action:

Three outcomes:•Development of self-evaluation tool,

To be support by•Resource website, and•Training and awareness activities.

TIC Pilot:Involved four Nursing and Midwifery programmes,

Pilot included: - student and staff feedback, - meetings with placement officers, - completion of a self-evaluation by placement officers.

Pre-Placement Inclusion.Programmes should strive to ensure students:

•have clarity regarding placement expectations and workload, •are offered the opportunity to raise any worries or considerations prior to allocation.

Placement Inclusion:

Programmes should strive to ensure students:

- students have support both within the placement and from the programme, - students are monitored and issues are picked up in a supportive environment.

Inclusion following Placements.

Programmes should strive to ensure students: - are given time and space to debrief.

Seek feedback from providers and students and seek to enhance provision for incoming students.
