HOLY REDEEMER PARISH ELLWOOD CITY, PENNSYLVANIA

Support all Catholic Education: “Great Beginnings last a lifetime.”

The Lesson that comes from St Timothy today is just what we need to hear in this moment in history. He tells the young priest, Timothy, “Stir into flame the gift of God that you have received through the imposition of my hands.” St. Paul ordained Timothy to the priesthood and now is encouraging to use the gifts so that he does not become disheartened by those who oppose the Gospel. When a person sets out to do good, they will be met with resistance. But, St. Paul’s words also apply to us. We have been Baptized and received the Sacrament of Confirmation, the hands of a bishop (who is considered an apostle) were laid upon us. We too have been given that great gift of faith. The gift given to us was not a spirit of cowardice, but rather of love and self-control. Bravery and self-control are being called forth from us every day. St. Paul also tells us to not be ashamed or quiet about the fact that we belong to God through His holy Catholic Church. “Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me, in faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” The Apostles and Saints have left a rich legacy of what it means to be loved by God. Their words and their histories inspires us to follow in their footsteps and to be one of the blessed. St. Paul continues, “Guard this rich treasure with the help of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.” The rich treasure, of course, is the work that God has done in us through the Sacraments and Ministries of His Church. Our Faith and our Church are our treasure. All that is left for us to do is to thank God for the Gift and begin rejoicing in our faith.

God our Father, you conquer the darkness of ignorance

by the light of your Word. Strengthen within our hearts the faith you have given us;

let not temptation ever quench the fire that your love has kindled within us.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

MASSES AND FLOWERS—2020 2020 Mass request forms are now available at all 4 entrances of the church and at the parish office. Due to the high

volume of Mass Requests, we can only guarantee ONE Mass per family. Offering Masses for the deceased is very important in helping them receive eternal rest. For that reason, if we cannot fulfill the Mass Request in a timely fashion, the Mass will be sent to another church in the diocese, so that the deceased will receive the benefit of the Mass as soon as possible. It is more important for the souls to receive the grace of the Mass quickly instead of delaying the Mass until it can be offered in our parish. The cost of a Mass remains at $10.

Requests for the 2020 Altar and/or Tabernacle Flowers are now being accepted. Cost is $50. Flowers may be in memory of a loved one, in honor of someone for their birthday, anniversary,

etc. Flowers remain in the sanctuary for one week. Dates fill up fast, so call the parish office as soon as possible.

The Book of Remembrance is in the vestibule of the Church. Please sign the names of the faithful departed you wish us to remember in prayer throughout the month of October

All women from St. Gregory, Holy Redeem-er and St. Ferdinand are invited to St. Paul Retreat Center, November 1-3, to experi-ence peace, joy and spiritual renewal. Allow your heart and mind to relax, and feel God’s love. Visiting this special place will allow you to grow in faith, learn something

new about yourself and center your life back to Christ. You will have time to walk through the surrounding gardens and enjoy social time with other women. To register or for more infor-mation, call Barb Kenney at 724-709-7946 or Kathy Zappia at 412-716-8647. Car pooling is available.
