Out run the Pass

Description

Split class into 2 even teams

One team is the kicking side while the other is the fielding side

2 cones are set up 1m apart along the baseline of the basketball court, this is

where the kicker starts and must kick the ball from

2 cones are placed in each corner along the baseline, this where the kicker

runs after they kick the ball

The fielding side has a nominated pitcher who rolls the ball to 2 kickers and

then the pitcher is rotated

Pitcher rolls the ball to the kicker who kicks it out into the field

Kicker kicks the ball into the field and runs from corner to corner scoring a

point every time they pass the kicking point

The fielding side must retrieve the ball and pass it to 5 different people and

then pass it back to the pitcher who calls stop to stop the runner

Soccer rules apply so the only person on either side who can touch the ball

with their hands is the pitcher

Kicking team is lined up behind the kicker

Variations

Bases can be used like baseball and the fielders must kick the ball to the

person on the base to get the kicker out

Could be played on an oval (set boundaries so ball cannot be kicked far away

Split class into teams of four

Quarter of basketball court is used as a playing area, cones are set in corners

of each playing area set as boundaries. 1m gap between each playing area

One team starts with ball and pass it between each other trying to keep it

away from the opposition

The team without the ball attempts to get the ball away from the opposition

Teams will have the ball for 30 seconds then roles will be reversed

Teams will have the ball twice so they can reflect and improve on the first time

they had the ball

Teams score a point every time they can steal the ball away

After each team has had a go at each side of the ball the teams are increased

to six aside with the playing area changes to half the court

After the six aside game the class is split into two teams and the full court is

used

Variations

Use of larger or smaller playing area

Can be used for a different range of sports including football, basketball and

netball

For students to be able to reflect on their

first attempt and improve on the second

Building Social Relationships – Students

select and use appropriate strategies to

effectively manage individual conflict and

assist others in resolution processes

People in teams disagree about

strategies, so it is up to the students to

create a common strategy and goal and

achieve this successfully

Description

Class is split in half with each group up one end of the soccer field

Each group is then split in two with these teams competing against each other

10 cones are set up around the goal including in the penalty box, the penalty

spot and outside the penalty box

Each side mirrors the other

The first member from each team steps up to the first cone and has a shot on

goal moving from cone to cone when they score a goal

When they get to the other side they return to their group and the next person

begins

Other team is doing the same from the opposite side

First team around wins

Variations

More spots to shoot from

VELS Lesson Plans for Students

Movement & Physical Activity – Students

proficiently perform complex movements

and manipulative skills

Students can successfully kick a soccer

ball into a net from a variety of positions

Working in Teams – Students accept

responsibility as a team member and

support other members to share

information, explore the ideas of others,

and work cooperatively to achieve a

shared purpose within a realistic

timeframe

As this is a team game but performed

individually students will learn to support

and encourage their teammates when it

is their turn to perform. If a teammate is

struggling with a certain position then the

team can give encouragement and ideas

on how to kick the goal successfully

The Individual Learner – They seek and

respond to feedback from peers,

teachers and other adults and explain

how their ideas have changed to develop

and refine their content knowledge and

understanding

With the encouragement and ideas

students receive when they are on the

field kicking for goal they can then pass

this onto teammates who are yet to

complete there kick

NAME GIANT FOOSBALLOBJECTIVE

To score goals through teamwork whilst stopping opponents from scoring goals

DESCRIPTION

Class is divided into 2 teams Court is divided into 7 sections, with each team having players on every second line Teams organise so defending team has the closest line to their own goal Team lines need to be proportionate to defence, (i.e. for a class of 20 there would be 5

defenders on each defence line, 3 midfielders on the mid lines and 2 forwards on each forward line)

Students can rotate and pivot, however they cannot move along or off their line Goals used are goal boxes (or goals) and there are no goalies Students cannot exit sidelines Teacher throws ball into court anywhere after goals. If ball leaves the court, the team that is

didn’t come off takes the kick from their closest line to where the ball went out Kicks must stay along ground

VARIATIONS

Students can move along their team def, mid or fwd lines Take one defender from each team and place them as forwards to make lines more even,

defending harder

EQUIPTMENT

1 soccer ball

12 cones for team lines

2 goals (if not on walls)

Wolves and sheep

Players: 2 equal sized teams

Objectives: to improve dribbling speed and control; to develop individual defending skills.

Setup: use markers to set out a large square area depending on the number of players involved. Mark off a safety zone (2 m square) in each corner of the field. Organise 2 teams of equal numbers, assigning a name to each team (for example blues and reds) use coloured sashes or vests to make it easier to tell teams. All players station within the area, each with a ball.

Procedure: at your command players of both teams dribble randomly among themselves in the area (avoiding safety zones) after a few seconds shout out a team for example “blues!” at which point all blue players must pick up their ball and try to tag a red player with it, at the same time the reds must dribble their ball into a safe zone without getting tagged, you mustn’t go to the safe zone closest to you or you will be disqualified. The chasers are the “wolves” where at the runners are the “sheep”. The round ends when the sheep are either in safe zones or have been tagged in which case a new round will start. Alternate between which team becomes the wolves and sheep to keep the game exiting. The only way to score is if the sheep get into the safety zone, each sheep in the safety zone is one point.

Equipment: 1 ball per player. 12 cones

17

Page 18: elizabetharnoldonlineresources.weebly.com · Web viewGame of cricket, except soccer skills replaces the striking skills. Divide class into batting team and fielding team. There are

Safety considerations: tripping on cones or over other players’ balls, running into each other. No throwing of balls to tag someone must be in both your hands to tag someone.

Variations:

- Instead of picking up the ball to tag, the taggers also have to dribble the ball to catch the “sheep”

-Limit the number of safe zones to only two.

Front door, Back door

Players: 6 to 10 (2 equal teams of 3 to 5)

Objectives: to develop effective passing combinations and off-the-ball player movement, to improve general endurance.

Setup: use markers to create a large playing field roughly half a basketball court, place two goals roughly 3 metres wide, between each 3rd of the court (2 goals) form two teams and use coloured sashes to separate teams.

Procedure: begin with a kick off in the centre of the area. Regular soccer rules apply, except that goals can be scored through either goal. In addition, shots may be scored from either

18

Page 19: elizabetharnoldonlineresources.weebly.com · Web viewGame of cricket, except soccer skills replaces the striking skills. Divide class into batting team and fielding team. There are

side of the goals, through the “back door” or the “front door”. The team to score the most goals wins. Requires a tight one on one marking scheme to reduce time and space available.

Equipment: 4 cones and 1 soccer ball

Safety considerations: tripping on cones as the game is played around them, tripping over each other as both teams will be playing a close one on one defence. Kicking the ball into each other due to them being open goals that can be scored from either way.

Variations:

-change the rules so they can only kick through the front door to score (or the back)

-Have to pass it to every player of the team before scoring

BOOT BALL

Players: 2 teams of however many, usually no more than 10 per team.

Objectives: To combine quickly controlled kicks with fast running and tactics in a competitive environment.

Set up: place the ball in a corner where it will be kicked from, the field shouldn’t be any smaller than half a basketball court. Place cones along the length of one side of the field starting from the ball to mark the running for the kicking team. Place cones at roughly half

19

Page 20: elizabetharnoldonlineresources.weebly.com · Web viewGame of cricket, except soccer skills replaces the striking skills. Divide class into batting team and fielding team. There are

way up the side of the field to mark the kicking wall for the fielding team, although without cones the bottom lines of the basketball key seem to work well, also place the cones back from the wall so the team doesn’t kick too close to it.

Description: the first team will kick from the corner into the fielders and began to run around the cones to score a point for each return, the fielders must pick up the ball and bring it to the cones on the side where they will place it a safe distance from the wall and kick it against it, once kicked against the wall the fielder must move away to the side for the next fielder to kick it, once all fielders have kicked it against the wall then they must bring the ball back to the original kicking spot where the runs will stop and the next kicker will kick off. Swap fielders to kicker’s once kicking team have all had a kick. Whichever team scores most runs wins.

Equipment: 1 soft soccer ball, 4 cones and a wall to kick against.

Safety considerations: kicks mustn’t be too hard, use a soft soccer ball, and have specific boundaries to make sure the kicker doesn’t kick too far, keep the running team a safe distance from the person making the runs.

Variations:

-swap runners during runs (one runner per run, like a relay)

-change fielding sequence to such things as throwing to each other, or tunnel ball, or even set up a cone weave to dribble the soccer ball around.

RATIONALE

This Minor Games Resource is specifically designed for students in years 7 to 10 at secondary school. At this level students should have mastered most fundamental motor skills including the kick. Kicking involves balance, coordination, strength in your leg muscles and fluency during the motion. By developing kicking skills this creates foot and eye coordination and balance, which can impact on daily activities such as walking, running and locomotion in a positive manner.

Including kicking skills in a P.E curriculum allows the students to participate actively in such major games as Soccer and Gaelic Football. The kick also develops the basic movements and coordination to perform the punt. The punt can be used in such major games as Australian Rules football, Rugby and Gaelic Football.

The kick is an integral part of P.E curriculum and there are endless amounts of minor games that you can play to further develop your students kicking skills.

VELS & OUTCOMES

If you complete 2 of these minor games per lesson, by the end of the kicking unit students should be able to proficiently demonstrate the kick according the fundamental motor skills criteria.

Students should demonstrate good sportsmanship and be aware and follow all rules of the minor games.

Students should enjoy all minor games and have an opportunity to participate in all aspects of the game. Teacher should maximise participation time and minimize transition time to achieve this.

At Level 5, students proficiently perform complex movement and manipulative skills.

They combine motor skills, strategic thinking and tactical knowledge to improve individual and team performance.

At Level 6, students can demonstrate advanced skills in selected physical activities.

Guard Your Ball

Description

Students dribble their soccer ball around the playing area Whilst guarding their own ball, attempt to hit other students’ balls out of the

playing area. If another student hits your ball outside of the playing area you are out. The last player left with his or her own ball is the winner.

Variations

Students who are eliminated can line up around the boundaries of the playing area and attempt to knock away remaining students balls. This keeps everyone participating.

Give each student a different kind of ball; this creates more of a challenge. Girl v girl and boy v boy.

Equipment

Soccer balls – one per student Variation – Soccer balls, footballs, foam balls, Swiss balls, etc.

Safety Considerations

Divide class into batting team and fielding team. There are two batters at any one time as per cricket. Bowler bowls the soccer ball underarm down the pitch and the batter kicks the ball

into the field. Batter than runs between the wickets as per cricket. Batters must run after a kick (e.g. Tippity Rules) Team with most runs wins Batters can be out: - Bowled

- Caught- Run out

Variations

Play the game with different sized balls. (E.g. large soccer ball, mini soccer ball, Swiss ball)

Fielders have to pass the ball by foot into the wicket keeper; this promotes use of kicking skills.

Girls bowl to girls, boys to boys.

Equipment

Indoor space or Cricket oval/pitch. Cricket stumps Appropriate ball – Soccer ball, etc.

Safety Considerations

If indoors make boundaries so students who are fielding aren’t running for a catch toward a wall.

Whilst fielding be aware of other students around you. Allow enough room between bowler and the batter, so bowler can react if ball is

kicked directly at him/her.

CRAB SOCCER

Description

A game of indoor soccer except all students must play as crabs. Crab position involves students being on all fours, with backs facing the floor and

stomachs facing the roof. Players are not permitted to play in a position other than the crab position. Players move around in the crab position, and play using conventional indoor

soccer rules. There are penalties for any players using arms or hands, or any player not in the

crab position. A free kick will be awarded to the opposing team if these rules are broken.

Goalies must defend in the crab position, and can only use there feet and bodies to defend as per field players.

Team that scores the most goals wins

Variations

Goalies can use hands to defend, but must have three limbs on the ground. (I.e. two feet, and one hand on ground, whilst other hand defends)

Use different sized balls to increase or decrease the difficulty.

Equipment

RationaleBall games that involve the kicking or hitting of a ball with ones hand, requires very little preparation, therefore it can be manipulated into physical education classes with ease. As the style of kicking may differ from one sport to another, the diverse nature opens up a broad range of activities for teachers to expose their students to. Kicking can be seen in many of the range of sports that each school has to offer in their sports program. The way in which each sport encompasses the 'kick' brings about new styles and techniques that shadow the fundamental motor skills. With the combination of exposure to the diversity nature of the 'kick' and gaming activities, students are able to adapt and learn freely.

VELS Specific Student OutcomesStudents demonstrate proficiency in the execution of manipulative and movement skills during complex activities.

Students are seen performing the Kick within designed team activities.

They learn and practise tactics and strategies relevant to the sports and activities in which they are participating, including the development of strategies to counter tactical challenges in game situations

Students will develop strategies to better their performance within each kicking activity.

Students.... focus on identifying and implementing ways of improving the quality of their performance during games

Students are able to identify to their teacher how they might improve their performance with the kick.

CHINESE SOCCERDescription

2 teams form along opposite walls in a gym. All members join hands, preferably double-grip in which each player grabs the wrist of the player to each side.

They defend the goal, which is the entire wall behind them, or as much wall as they can cover while all holding hands and standing in one location.

5 players from each team come to centre court. Their aim is to make the ball hit the wall behind the guards of the opposite team.

The guard team along the wall must continue to hold hands as they defend their wall against the oncoming ball.

They defend by kicking the ball away while still holding hands. A goal is scored against them if the ball hits the wall behind the defenders *at knee level or

below*, or if the defenders must break their grip on each other in order to kick the ball away.

If ball hits wall at higher than knee level, there is no score and no penalty for breaking grip. (Thus the defenders’ best tactic is to stay back near the wall.)

The centre players can bat the ball with their fists and (as in soccer) stop it with any part of their bodies.

They cannot pick it up, nor can they dribble or bounce it higher in order to give it a good swat. In other words, "play the ball where it lies," which is usually close to the floor! To score a goal, the centre players must bat it (with fists only) past the knees or lower legs of the defenders of the opposite wall.

Body-contact is limited (as in basketball). The referee may wish to impose free shots on goal as the penalty for rough play or personal fouls. (Dave R.)

VariationHave two teams blocking the ball to increase defence making goal scoring much harder

The object is for the kicker to kick the ball and to run around the group 3 times before group 2 in the field completes its activity.

The ball can be kicked in any direction in front of the kicker. Group 2 fielders are scattered until the ball is kicked. Group 2 then run to retrieve

the ball. They line up behind the person who has retrieved it. The ball is passed through each

student’s legs, except those of the last student, who holds the ball in the air overhead when it is received.

If group 2 performs this activity before the group 1 kicker can circle the group 3 times, the kicker fails to score. After everyone in group 1 has kicked the ball, the groups change places.

Variations• The kicker dribbles a second ball once around group 1 instead of running 3 times.• Group 2 passes the ball overhead to the end of the line.

• Ask for four volunteers and designate them to be "it" (Note: You can change this number based on the overall number of people playing).

• The people who are "it" must protect the can from being knocked over or kicked. • If the can is kicked, then the people who are "it" lose the game. • Everyone else tries to knock over or kick the can. • If a person who is "it" tags them at any time throughout the game, the person is out

of the game.• If someone manages to "kick the can", everyone else wins the game.• If the people who are "it" manages to tag everyone, then they win the game.• If the people who are "it" also manages to protect the can for 15 minutes, they win

the game.

HUMAN FOOSBALL Description

• Like the table game, the goal of Human Foosball is to make goals by kicking the ball into the opposing team’s net. Players must stay connected in rows of unbroken lines and stay between designated boundary lines. The rules of soccer apply.

• Each line of players may move to the left or right, forward or back to play the ball,• They can never pass the lines in front or behind them. They must stay in order (as do the

wooden players on a foosball board).• Should a line of players break apart, that line is not permitted to play the ball until they have

reconnected. • This means that they are all holding the pinnies and all students are standing.• For safety reasons, the ball must remain at waist height or lower.• If the ball is popped up, play is stopped and a free kick is awarded to the other team. • All other soccer rules apply.

Variation Take away net for scoring, for ease make 'goal' signify when the ball passes the other team's end line

Description

• Set up a kickball playing field by placing one base at home, first, second and third bases.• Place a container with six playground or other kicking balls inside of it next to the pitcher's

mound. • The teacher pitches. Divide the class into two teams. One team is up to kick and the other

team is spread out in the field. Make sure the fielding team players spread out on the field behind the base lines; no more than one base player at each base.

• Teacher rolls a ball to the first kicker, who kicks the ball and begins to run the bases. • As soon as the first kicker begins to run, the teacher takes another ball from the container

and pitches it. • As the second kicker kicks and begins to run the bases, the teacher again takes a ball from

the container and pitches it for the third kicker. • The kicking team is trying to kick and run the bases as fast as possible. • There may be more than one base runner running at a time. • Base runners may not pass each other and may not stop on a base. • As the balls are being kicked into the field, the fielders are trying to retrieve the balls and

place them back in the container as quickly as possible. • The fielding team must never allow the container to become empty.

• If it does become empty, the kicking team receives three points. Each kicker will receive only one pitch to kick.

• If a kicker misses the ball, that player must retrieve the ball and bring it to the box.• The fielding team is never penalized for an empty box if a kicking team has a ball.• During each inning, every player kicks the ball one time. AS the last kicker comes to kick,

he/she must call our "last kicker• "The last kicker kicks and begins to run the bases. This last kicker tries to run all four bases

before the fielding team can get all six balls back into the box. • When all six balls are back in the box, the fielding teams yell "stop!" At this point, the score is

recorded for the kicking team.• A kicker crossing home plate after running the bases receives one point.

Variation

1. The last kicker gets five points for crossing home plate before all six balls are in the container. 2. The kicking team gets three points every time there is not at least one ball in the container. 3. When playing in the gym, the fielding team gets one bonus point if the ball hits the ceiling on

a kick. 4. Start the scoring at zero after each full inning.

Activity 1My game

Vels

Employ and devise skills and strategies to counter tactical challenges in games situations

analyse strategies to enhance enjoyment and to improve their participation in physical activity

Demonstrate proficiency in manipulative and movement skills during the execution of complex activities

Description

The game I did for my student teach was a modified version of indoor soccer.

The object of the game is to have students play a game of indoor soccer and to introduce the kicking skill into a game of indoor soccer which will allow for skill growth in a pressured situation. It will also encourage tactical work and decision making.

Have court set up using the painted goals on the wall, use the basketball court as a field and mark with cones to ensure nobody plays near the walls.

The game is just a basic game of indoor soccer, to start with there will be no goalie to allow greater chance of scoring, you have to score from outside the red netball arc to allow for greater difficulty as there is no goalie

To use kicking where ever possible instead of a throw in when the ball goes out, the ball will be placed on closest cone and will be kicked off.

The key teaching points for the activity are:

Promote maximal participation Concentrate and emphasis the skill of kicking Whistle means stop.

Modifications/progressions

If required due to lack of space, introduce subs who stand on the outside of the court, their role is then to be the people who kick the ball back into play.

-Once players have become accustomed with the rules and more and more goals are being scored introduce a goalie to make it harder to score.

If certain people are dominating possession and therefore not maximising participation introduce 4-5 touches before a goal is scored or every 3 pass must be a girl etc.

If skill level is high, to progress skill level, introduce only using non-preferred foot.

39

Page 40: elizabetharnoldonlineresources.weebly.com · Web viewGame of cricket, except soccer skills replaces the striking skills. Divide class into batting team and fielding team. There are

Safety

To ensure all participants are safe there will be the following rules

-Reinforce the use of the whistle, keep away from walls. Ball can’t go over shoulder height, penalty if this happens

-as soon as ball goes outside the cones immediately stop game and give free pass to the team who did not touch the ball last

-No contact or physical tackling, including slide tackling.

Equipment

2 indoor soccer balls, 15 cones, 10 colour bands

Activity 2Wall Soccer

Vels

Combine motor skills, strategic thinking and tactical knowledge to improve individual and team performance.

Employ and devise skills and strategies to counter tactical challenges in games situations

Demonstrate advanced skills in selected physical activities.

Objective:

Devide the class into 2 even teams The two teams form a line along the opposite ends of a gymnasium linked by hands,

they then move from side to side using team work to defend the goal which is the whole wall (below waist height) or as much as they can cover while linked.

3 from either side or how many people needed (depending on class size) then play soccer against each other trying to score a goal by hitting the wall behind their opposing team

Rules

The team along the wall must always have an unbroken chain between people , they defend the wall by kicking the ball away

A goal is scored against them if the ball breaks through the chain and hits the wall below waist height or if the chain is broken in game play. If the ball hits above waist height then no goal is scored

The centre players play a game of soccer with no contact including slide tackling. Since it is very taxing on the centre players they are rotated every few minutes

Modifications/Progressions

More or less people in the middle so more goals are scored depending on skill level. Introduce pass limits such as minimum 4 passes before goal can be scored and/or

every 3 pass must be a girl Introduce more balls which allows more goals to be scored and more people involved

Equipment

3 indoor soccer balls 6 colour bands Cones for sidelines/goal area

Safety considerations

No contact Including slide tackles

41

No balls above waist, if this occurs goal disallowed and if serial offender yellow card for 2 minutes

Have strict boundaries so students especially in the goals do not run into walls, but also so middle players do not run into walls

Emphasise awareness of what is going around you.

Objectives:

To knock down the middle blocks for your team to score a point using your kicking skils.

Description:

Place 2 even teams at either end of a court or field Place 5 or 6 blocks or soda bottles in the middle of the two teams The two teams then try to knock over the blocks or bottles in the middle using kicking Have teams about 15 metres away from the blocks Once block is knocked over the student who knocked it over replaces it back upright and

scores a point for his/her team Set up cones for a no go zone. Where if a block is knocked down when the ball is kicked from

here it is disallowed

Modifications/progressions:

You can move the kids back or forth depending on the ability of the kids Add more or less blocks depending on number of students or ability Can also be played in four teams arranged in a square around the pins Can introduce punting if that’s what the skill is. Introduce more balls for quicker games

Equipment:

5 balls, cones, 3-8 blocks/soda bottles

Safety considerations:

When cone is being reset, can stop game so person does not get hit. Watch out for walls- use cones to reduce risk of running into them

Activity 4Passing through the Area:

Rationale

This game is designed to develop a student’s understanding of how to pass the ball to moving targets while also attempting to avoid defenders. The game requires students to develop co operative, communication skills, while also developing spacial awareness while focus is on the ball and defending player/s.

Objectives

To be able to demonstrate an ability to dribble and pass the ball while in a dynamic environment.

Develop an ability to communicate well with team mates to enable successful outcomes.

Develop spacial awareness for attackers and positioning for defenders. Teach students to make correct decisions associated with passing the ball based on

environment

Vels

Combine motor skills, strategic thinking and tactical knowledge to improve individual and team performance.

Employ and devise skills and strategies to counter tactical challenges in games situations

Demonstrate advanced skills in selected physical activities.

Description

Area of play is around a 5-10m circle marked by 6-8 cones. Groups of 8-10 students are selected to form one game. This can be replicated as

many times as needed depending on size of group. Once in groups, one student is selected as a defender, while remaining players move

to the outside of marked area. 1 ball is introduced to players outside marked area. All players outside marked area are to be continually running, while players with

possession of the ball are to pass the ball across defensive zone (inside marked area) to other team mates. (Promotion of using voice/calling for the ball should be encouraged)

If ball is intercepted by defender, the player losing the ball goes into the middle and game continues.

Repeat until everyone has had a chance to be a defender (if the same people are losing possession of the ball, allocate new defenders to give everyone a chance to play the role as a defender.

44

Page 45: elizabetharnoldonlineresources.weebly.com · Web viewGame of cricket, except soccer skills replaces the striking skills. Divide class into batting team and fielding team. There are

Variations

Increase or decrease size of playing area, dependant on kicking/passing skills Increase or decrease number of defenders inside playing area. Add extra balls to playing group to get more students involved, while also making

defender/s have to work harder.

Equipment

Cones to set boundaries for playing area. (6-8 cones for each playing area) 1-3 soccer balls for each group.

Safety Considerations

Don’t allow the ball to be kicked above waist height when attempting a pass. If pass is made above waist, that player enters circle to be a defender

Make sure players running around circle are running in same direction, and or reinforce awareness of moving players if direction of running is varied.

Activity 5Passing and Receiving (Possession Game)

Rationale

This game is designed to enable students to use the skill of passing (kicking) while under defensive pressure, while it is required to make decisions associated with who/when/how. Who to pass the ball to, when to pass it, and how to complete the pass. Spacial awareness and defensive awareness is also an important aspect to be reinforced within this game along with team work and communication.

Vels

Employ and devise skills and strategies to counter tactical challenges in games situations

analyse strategies to enhance enjoyment and to improve their participation in physical activity

Demonstrate proficiency in manipulative and movement skills during the execution of complex activities

Description

Have 3 teams of equal numbers of players (6-10 players per team) Team 1 starts as free target on the outside of playing area, when they receive the

ball, they must return to player from same team that passed to them. Teams 2 and 3 play a possession game within playing area. 10 consecutive passes without a turn over occurring scores that team a goal. Once a team has scored 2 goals, rotate the losing team with the outside team.

Variations

Outside players are limited to only 1 touch passing (to promote quick decision making and improve trapping skills).

Players on field are limited to 2-3 seconds of possession/dribbling with ball.(Increase speed of play and promotes quick decision making associated with passes to be made).

Allow various forms of passing. (Ground passes, Lob Passes, volleys)

Activity 6Cone Soccer

Rationale

The concept of this game is to enable students to participate in a game of soccer, with multiple targets (goals) that are smaller than regulation sized goals, increasing the need for more accurate shots on target to be made to score a goal.

This promotes better movement of the ball, to allow for better positioning to shoot on goal, and far greater control when kicking to ball towards the goals.

Vels

Use equipment and space safety Demonstrate a wide variety of motor skills and apply them to basic, sport-specific

situations Participate regularly in physical activities for the purpose of improving skill and

health

Description

Divide group into 2 even teams (allocate bibs to 1 team) Netball court is the area of play. Students are to involve themselves in a game of soccer with 4 goals at each end of

the playing area (goals are soccer balls mounted on top of cones). Students are NOT to have shots on goal from inside netball semi circle. To score a goal a player is to kick the ball at a cone, attempting to knock the ball off

its cone. Once all balls have been removed from teams’ goal (cones) that team wins.

Variations

If there are too many players on the field, can bring in sideline players (Rotate these players regularly).

If teams are defending with all players around cones, limit to 2 defenders in netball semi circle.

Allow for punting to be incorporated into game. If ball is kicked off the ground and caught, punting is allowed to complete passes or shots on goal. 3 steps
