II. Early Life Born in March 6, 1806 in Durham, England.

Privileged childhood

1821 Dr. Coker prescribed opium for a nervous disorder.

Mother died when she was 22.

Self-taught.

As child she read a number of Shakespearian plays

IV. Career Elizabeth became active in the Bible and Missionary Societies of her church.

1833, translated Prometheus Bound.

Wrote Seraphin and Other Poems in 1838 when her siblings were sent to Jamaica to her with the family’s estates

V. Personal Life Robert Browning wrote Elizabeth a letter telling her that he liked one of her poems.

Started a relationship and it was bitterly opposed by her father.

In 1846, the couple eloped in Florence, Italy.

Gave birth to Robert Wiedeman Barrett Browning.

Later Life In 1860 the Brownings returned to Rome.

Elizabeth sister died, and Elizabeth entered a depression phase.

She died on 29 June 1861 in her husband's arms.
