In a matter of days, hundreds of thousands ofpeople will participate in

another March onWashington. I recall the firstone when Dr. King gave hisworld changing “I a dreamspeech.” The world listened aspeople; Black and white cameto Washington to protest forequal rights for all Americans.

Now, people have been forced to March again. TheSupreme Court has gutted the Voting Rights Acts which waspassed in 1965. Voting ID laws, designed to discouragedminorities from participating in the electoral process are beingpassed by legislatures throughout the country.

The Republicans seem to believe that the Civil War is notover and they are determined to chase people of color out ofthe country. Look at their opposition to immigration laws.Don’t they realize that America is a country of immigrants andthat the only real Americans are the Native Americans whowere here with the first boat loads arrived?

Hopefully the new generation that is growing up now willcontinue to see beyond differences and will judge people bywhat is in their hearts and not the color of their skin. That wasDr. King’s dream. Perhaps many people simply need to passaway before American becomes the country that it should be.Let them take their prejudices to the earth with them.

I will be watching the March on Washington and will bepraying that it will change things. I certainly hope that we willneed another march fifty years from now.

In a matter of days ourchildren will be returningto school. And I want to

let them know that we at theElite News wish themtremendous success during theschool years. We want ourchildren to know that they arethe future. They are the

presidents of the future, the scientists, engineers, doctors, newspaper publishers and lawyers.

We are depending on them to run this country and thisworld and in order to do that they must be prepared. If youare a student and you have dreams, hold on to those dreams. You can become anything that you set your mind to me. Don’tlet anyone turn your around. Don’t let anyone tell you that youcannot accomplish your goals and objectives. There will beplenty of negative people round you but get away from themquickly because they cannot do anything for you. They canonly harm you.

Pay attention to the lessons that your teachers are givingyou in school because they are the ones that are preparing youfor the future. They are dedicated to your success and want youto be successful. Give them your full attention while you arein school

And for those of you who are playing sports, rememberthat you have to have something to fall back on becauseeveryone cannot be a member of the National Football League.Learn to love books, begin to write. Who know, one day youmight start a news paper like my dad did many years ago andgive people information.

I want o thank the parents who support their children inschool. Without it would not be possible for them to succeed. We are praying for the success of you and your children.

Just when you thinkthings could not getworse, they get worse.

Or just when you’re aboutto pull ahead, somethingcomes along and pushes youback. Is there any point ingoing on? Is it time tosimply give up, to give in, toabandon your dreams, toturn your back on yourmost deeply held desires?

Absolutely not! No matter what has happened, nomatter how difficult the conditions, no matter howmuch challenge is piled on top of challenge, there isalways hope. In fact, the more difficult the situation, themore reason you have to move beyond it. The moreyou’ve lost, the less you have to lose and the more reasonyou have to stride confidently forward.Even if you have nothing else, you have something moreprecious than the purest gold, more rare and desirablethan the brightest diamond. You have life. You cansense. You can think. You can reason. You can makedecisions. You can take action. Though you may lose allelse, still you retain the ability to move yourself forward,to become the person you decide to become, to live inthe way you have determined to live.At times it may seem that the whole world is againstyou. But that assessment is based on past history. Andthe past does not equal the future. The past does notequal the future because you stand solidly in the present, able to break away from whatever has happened in thepast and to create your future in the way you desire. This moment is overflowing with opportunity. If thepast has been full of disappointment, now is the time tochange that pattern. Now is the moment in which youcan make a positive difference. Now is the time to takeaction. Now is the time to fulfill your incrediblepossibilities. You’ve glimpsed those possibilities before, and you know deep within your heart how positive andwonderful they can be. Now is your opportunity tograsp them. Now is your opportunity to turn them intoreality.Your future is a blank canvas, waiting for you to applycolor, shape and motion, meaning and fulfillment. Youcan make of it whatever you wish, whatever you dream, whatever you desire.Start by knowing you can do it. Though you’ve knownyour share of difficulty, you’ve succeeded in making itthis far through life. The challenges of your past standnow as shining examples of your ability to persevere. You have successfully lived through each one of thosechallenges, each one of those disappointments.Consider for a moment how strong all that has madeyou. Consider all the valuable things you’ve learned. Justthink of what you can do with that strength and thatknowledge, applied in a positive direction.Ask yourself an important, life-changing question.

EXERCISE TIPS FROM A FEMALE BODYBUILDER

{ WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT }

It is to our advantage as well as our privilege to enterinto our place of prayer with great expectation. Nomatter where your praying ground is, it should

always be your mountain of expectation. I discoveredthat my mountain of expectation becomes a breedingground for my miracle. Perhaps you have a conditionin your body that concerns you. Well, we all shouldhave a heart to see the sick and the afflicted madewhole. It is, after all, God's will to heal and that wasaccomplished by the stripes that God bore for each ofus. "He was wounded for our transgressions. He wasbruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our

peace was upon him, and by His Stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)

{ HEALTH WISE }

Greetings: Last week, Ishared an eating planoutlined for me by

Linda Maribito, a female PROBodybuilder from Boston,Massachusetts. Linda was inDallas to compete in theannual Dallas InternationalNatural BodybuildingAssociation’s PRO/AMNational Championship that Ipromoted on August 10. The

Presenting Sponsor was Parrish McDonald’s RestaurantsLtd.

During breakfast, the day after the competition,Linda and I discussed a 16-week realistic eating plan forme, a non-bodybuilder. The goal of my 16-week eatingand workout plan is for me to lose body fat and weight bythe time I see Linda on September 26 in Las Vegas, NV.

Linda reminded me that setting short term goals is agreat way to kick-start and continue to lose weight untilI’ve reached my ideal weight. By setting my short termgoal, I will stay motivated to make healthy eating choicesand to do my workout routine six days a week. Becausethis is a short term goal, I’m able to gauge and measurewhether or not I’m on track to achieve my goals by

weighing twice a week. This step will allow me to see myprogress clearly. To celebrate, I will buy a new dress towear to at the awards ceremony in Las Vegas. I can’t waitto show off my new body to Linda!

Two nutrition tips from Linda that I didn’t give youlast week that I’m using are:

Tip #15: If you keep calories the same, the body gets usedto it. Eat the same amount of calories for two weeks andthen eat 200 to 400 calories less for two weeks. Wait itout! You will lose weight!Tip #16: Sugar must be used through exercise or stored!

Now, we focus on exercising. “Whether I want to or not,I work out 6 days a week for one hour and a half. I do fivesets of each exercise,” said Linda about her exerciseroutine.

Linda is in excellent shape. She has lean muscle masswith hardly any body fat. While I’m strong, have nohealth issues, and take no medications, I’m just theopposite! Therefore, my exercise routine is 6 days a weekfor one hour. I do three sets of each exercise, with 10repetitions each.

“I want you to wear out the legs,” said Linda. “Thelarge muscle group burns more calories.”

My Workout Routine From Linda, the PRO

Bodybuilder:1) Work Legs – walk with extra weights.2) Row – great for the back and chest and involves all

the major muscle groups. It shapes and tones at thesame time. It also builds full body strength and leanmuscle mass while burning calories.

3) Arms – for small muscles like the triceps and bigmuscles like the biceps. Use hand-held weights, dumbbells or kettle bells. Use your body more; don’trely on machines. Use 3 sets of weights each time:Sizes – 3, 5, and 10.

4) Push and Pull – always bend and lift from the waist.

I’m sticking with this. Plus, I’m swimming and doingwater aerobics 60 minutes a day.

I challenge you to join me in this 16-week endeavor. If you decide to do so, we can talk via telephone to keepeach other encouraged and once a month meet for lunchfor a motivational hug and health chat.

Another Nutrition Tip: Eat Peaches, plums, andnectarines to reduce belly fat.“The phenolic compounds in the fruits have anti-obesity,anti-inflammatory, and anti-diabetic properties and mayalso reduce the oxidation of the bad cholesterol, or LDL,which is associated with cardiovascular disease,” said FoodScientist Luis Cisneros-Zevallos, PhD.

{ NATIONAL REVIEW }

August 28th will commemorate the50th Anniversary of the historic“March On Washington”. What

started as the “March for Jobs andFreedom”, for African Americans, ended upbeing the biggest demonstration for equalrights in United States history.

For years African Americans fought inthe streets and courts for equal rights inAmerican. The March on Washington wasthe biggest display of dissatisfaction withWashington, D.C. and congress failure toact on the issues of racial discriminationand voting rights including; elimination ofschool segregation, programs of publicworks, including job training for theunemployed and a $2 minimum wage, justto name a few. On August 28, 1963, morethan 250,000 people of all races traveled bybus, car and plane to participated in the“March”. Some highlights included thepresence of Hollywood stars CharltonHeston, Burt Lancaster and MarlonBrando. Singer Mahalia Jackson andEntertainer Bob Dylan performed. Mostsignificantly, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.made his iconic “I Have A Dream” Speech”at the March.

The 2013 recognition of the “Marchon Washington” starts on Saturday, August24th with marches and other scheduledevents in Washington and across thecountry. President Obama will speak at3:00pm from the Lincoln Memorial whereDr. King delivered his “I Have A DreamSpeech”. Presidents Bill Clinton andJimmy Carter will join him. A smallermarch is planned on Wednesday, August28th, the actual day of the 1963 March.

The “March” culminated with severalkey legislation being passed by congress andsigned into law by President LyndonJohnson. First the Civil Rights Act of 1964outlawed racial discrimination related toethnic national and religious minorities. That law also, in theory, ended racialsegregation in schools and in facilitiesserved by the general public. Secondly, theVoters Right Act of 1965 became law thatprevented the imposition of “any standard, practice or procedure to deny or abridge theright of any citizen of the United States tovote on account of race or color”. It alsorequired federal oversight over electionsadministration, including requiring states, jurisdictions and sub-divisions, mostly in

the South witha history ofr a c i a ldiscriminationto get“preclearance”before changingvoting laws andpractices. The law has been amended severaltimes since its enactment. President W.George Bush signed a 25-year extension in2006.

The irony of this law is that on June25th of this year, nearly 50 years after the1963 “March On Washington for Jobs andFreedom the U.S. Supreme Court ruledthat portions of the Voting Rights Act wereunconstitutional. In September 2011,Shelby County v.Holder, Shelby CountyAlabama sued in federal court challengingsection 4(b) and 5, the portion addressing“preclearance” of the law of saying that thelaw was unconstitutional and thereforeunenforceable. The case ended up in theSupreme Court.

The Court in a 5-4 decision ruled thatthe law was indeed unconstitutional basedon the fact that the 40-year-oldformulacongress used to reauthorize the law is nolonger applicable in today’s conditions. The majority went on to say the racialdiscrimination that existed at the time thelaw was passed does not exist today. It alsosaid that congress needed to fix theformula. Section 4(b), the formula used for“preclearance” was outlawed but Section 5that kept the requirement in tact has nosignificance without Section 4(b), theactual requirement used for formulaadjustment.

The nation’s highest court’s ruling willhave widespread implications on electionsacross the country. Minority groups haveonce again sued in federal court tochallenge the current ruling requesting thatthe Justice Department intervene againstmaps that states used to draw re-apportion,or redistricting lines.

The Justice Department has indicatedthat it will seek equal voting rights underdifferent sections of the Voting Rights Act.I will update you on the status of thislawsuit as it progresses.

marCh on Washington marks 50th

year anniversary

Fifty years have passed since theworld witnessed 300,000 citizensassemble in Washington, D.C. on

August 28th, 1963 to demand “jobs andfreedom” for people who lived on themargins of American life. During themarch, the leadership of the nation waschallenged to enact the Civil Rights Actof 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of1965.

Some changes weremade and both pieces oflegislation were passedwith the assistance ofPresident Lyndon B.Johnson and U.S. SenatorRalph Yarborough, twoelected officials fromTexas who empathizedwith those who gatheredon a hot and humidAugust day. On August 24th, therewill be another March on Washington. Itwill take place because the struggle forracial equality is not yet complete. Thereare forces in this country that areforcefully pushing back the advances thathave been made and they must beconfronted.

One has only to witness the recentdecision by the conservative U.S.Supreme Court that removed the teethfrom the Voting Rights Act to realize thatnot everyone in this country believes ininclusiveness.

The fact is that minorities are underattack in America. There are powerfulinterests who want the nation to returnto the post Civil War period known asReconstruction. They have enacted lawsdesigned to prevent people from voting,

they oppose Obama care and theysupport so-called “stand your groundlaws” which have resulted in the killingof innocent people.

Even our president in the WhiteHouse is not immune from the rancidabuse. I was present in the HouseChamber while President Obamadelivered a State of the Union addressand a House Member disrupted the

proceeding, calling thenation’s chief executive a“liar. It was shocking, it wasdisrespectful and it stemmedfrom prejudice.

It is easy for superficialobservers to suggest that thestruggle for racial equality isno longer necessary. Whilelawfully sanctionedsegregation is over and“separate but equal” isinvalid, discrimination and

inequality persist in our work places, ourcorporate boardrooms, our schools, andour governments.

There is an inscription of Dr. King’sremarks made during the 1963 march atthe Rosa Parks Plaza in the West End ofDallas that says we will not be satisfied“until justice rolls down like waters, andrighteousness like a mighty stream.”We should not be satisfied! That is why Iwill be in Washington on August 24thwith hundreds of thousands of peoplewho realize that America is still not thecountry that the framers of itsConstitution promised.

Together we can make America liveup to its promises that all people arecreated equal. That is why we shallmarch again.

On March 7 in an unprecedented move StateDistrict Judge Lena Levario held Dallas DistrictAttorney in contempt of court for refusing to

answer questions on how his office made their decisionssurrounding the management of a mortgage fraudinvestigation. Watkins has upheld that the decisions madeby the prosecuting office should not be questioned in court.State District Judge Bob Brotherton from Wichitia Falls ishearing the case and to decide if the contempt charge witha $500 fine should be upheld or dismissed.

The case against oil heir, Al Hill III, accused Watkinsof engaging in prosecutorial misconduct that would aid hisbenefactor Lisa Blue. Now the case against Blue that wasbefore Levario has been dropped. So if there is no caseagainst Blue how is there still a case against Watkins?Additionally, if a judge hearing a case gets to question howthe prosecuting office investigates a case is the judge nowacting as the prosecutor and diminishing the charge for theprosecutor’s office to uphold Public Safety if they arerequired to tell how each case is determined?

The strategy is simplewe target commuters. The time of thecommute and the typical route taken isreferred to as the "Sweet Spot of SensoryPerception." This is the period of time whena consumer's sensory perception is at itshighest level and the consumers mosteffectively receive your message. Duringcommutes, consumers depend heavilyupon their ocular senses. Sensory acuity isat its very heightened state. It is at thiscritical point that SMA positionsyour mobile billboard messagedirectly into the consumer’sline of vision.

With that skill-set Mr.Laney uses that to build thebrands of (RNDC). He istrusted throughout thecompany as a softspoken- get things donekind of person. He is avery mild manneredand down to earthwith a heighten senseof Spirituality.

When talkingwith Cory youunderstand his focus isto understand his clientsand community prior tomarketing to them. He

understands that there are 3 ConsumerSegments in our culture they are:

The Seekers, they are of legal drinkingage to 27 years old; college students, youngprofessionals or blue collar workers whoseek image and status. The Urban Professional is the upwardlymobile who exceed the legal drinking age. They are usually the upwardly mobile whohave an active social life. They are technologically aware and usuallychose the items that are popular at thattime.

The last Segment Group is the BabyBoomers. They are usually 45 years andolder who have a stable palate and not likelyto experiment with new items. They are less like to use advance

technology. In knowing their marketsegments they are better able to have thecorrect products to support the community. But as a company that also gives back totheir community they make sure that theyeducate themselves. In staying educated

they work to make surethey provide theconsumer with theknowledge to drinksensibly andresponsibly. RNDC also

When the late greatDale Earnhart waskilled, NASCAR

started a campaign to makeracing safer. They tried tofigure out how to make adriver safer. My thoughts wereif you can figure out how tohit a wall at 200 miles an hourand be safe, your next job willbe to make a plane crashinjury free.

The NFL is attempting a like task. They’re targetingthe helmet to helmet hits; don’t lead with crown of thehelmet. Drop your target line, now in a game thisweekend; Tight end Dustin Keller took a hit from rookiesafety DJ Swearinger. Swearinger went low around the

knees, and tore every ligament in Keller’s knee. Thetargeted hit area is almost like the old strike zone inbaseball, the chest to knee. If you go low you tear upknees, go high concussions and fine. Since you’re notgoing to go to flag or touch football what’s the solution.I think football like NASCAR is trying to figure out howto have the injury free plane crash. They’ve madelegislation to stop the helmet to helmet, and the kneeshots. To a certain extent they’ve cut or tried to cut theexcessive celebrations, as to not antagonize the defenders.I always thought that shouldn’t have to be taught. Whywould I antagonize a guy whose job is to hit and hurt meand I never ever have a chance to hit or hurt him. If youdon’t want the offensive guys to draw attention tothemselves, why do you still allow the most degradingthing of all, the Lambeau leap. I think that looks like ananimal trainer every time his animal does a trick comehere baby and get a reward for doing your job, come letme rub your head. If they don’t think that’s drawingattention to you.

I think the problem is incurable, you have a combineand the object is to get the most athletic guys you canfind, Defensive backs that runs in the neighborhood of4:5 in the 40yd dash, some even faster. Wide receivers runin the same neighborhood, and all of these guys areperfect physical specimen, solidly built and extremelystrong for their size. If these two types of people collide ifthey’re headed to the bus stop or to catch a pass, someoneis going to get hurt. The human body is not design, tomake those type collisions, head first, feet first or shoulderfirst, continuously doing that will result in injury. First ofall you’re playing on concrete, now you throw in a few250lb linebackers and a few 300 plus linemen, it doesn’tmatter if you’re playing on snow, somebody’s going to gethurt. These guys are very skillful at hitting. If you take asniper hunting with a high power rifle in a wooded areawhere there’s plenty wildlife there is an excellent chancesomething’s going to die. Put all these human missiles outand someone gets HURT.

This week a few of my friends tookme out to a uniquely differentlocation for appetizers and to

watch the sun set over the Dallasdowntown skyline. We arrived early only to find that theywere offering a half price happy hour sowe went up to the 6th floor and settled into enjoy each other, the Dallas skylinewith a setting sun and some appetizers. To our surprise the front desk informed usthat we had come on the right day and allappetizers were half price. Yes!! We ordered their fried Sweet Potatoes,Popcorn Shrimp and Stuff Mushrooms.Let’s start with the Fried Sweet Potatoes. They were waffle cut and really good. Iknow many of you either like regular friesand many do not like Fried Sweet Potatoes.Well step out of the box and try these.Lightly salted and semisweet they are goodwith and without any sauce. The Popcorn Shrimp were wonderfullyseasoned and lightly fried. The sauce wasn’t as flavorful as it looked tobe so if you need a sauce just ask for somecocktail sauce or eat them withoutanything. It will work and go down nicely. Now the Stuff Mushrooms were to be stuffwith crab.Well, the mushrooms were wet and thestuffing was fishy. Not a good

combination. Now after watching the sun set andenjoying the company of my friends weneeded to move on. I asked for the checkand we waited and waited and waited.Geez…. I was told that if I wanted itseparated I had to wait for our waitress.Once she returned she was anything butprofessional or service oriented. In fact, shewas rude and insolent. I requested amanager from both young ladies serving theroom only to be told that NO manager wasin the building and if I wanted to talk tosomeone “ you will just have to wait.” Heckwe had already waited almost an hour justto get a check so outdone and in totaldismay I marched me and our check downto the front desk to find me somebody. Oh,by the way, the all items were full price andnot the half price we were told they were to

be. As I animatedly shared with the front desk my displeasure another guess added that hisexperience was just as bad. Another guess left after waiting an hour for their meal only to betold it had been lost. It just so happened that another manager who was off duty and endedup helping me out. I didn’t get his name but he was working with the elevator repair guys. Now I understand this is a wonderful hotel in an up and coming area of the city. I wouldhate to have this one day represent the entire experience one could have but… NYLOmanagement if you are reading you have a lot of work to do here. It is very sad that we can now compare dogto man, or is this a black white thing. Iremember so well that so many of ouryoung Black men were murdered years agoburned, hanged or even shot to death bythe other race and never have we had somuch concern about a four legged animal.Thousands of dollars are spent trying tosee that justice is done for some youngmen who mistreated a dog by setting himon fire by pouring lighter fluid on theanimal and setting fire to it, wrong by allstandards, but you were not near so quickto speak up for our brother, who were

killed like animals at one time. Michael Vick went to jail and his

career was almost ended because he wasconnected to animal cruelty one way oranother, see how it works, is there acomparison to the crime? Was it fair then?Is it fair now? YOU be the judge!

When you can put the value of adog life on the same level as man we dohave a problem, even at today’s standard.Sad to say the leader of our country ishaving all kind of daily problems with ourelected officials, just because he is a blackman,

With all the different kinds of reality shows for us toimmerse ourselves in there is one more coming tous this season, Pastors of LA. Bishop Noel Jones,

Deitrick Haddon, Bishop Clarence McClendon, PastorWayne Chaney, Bishop Ron Gibson and Pastor Jay Haizlipwill be bring to you a provocative look at their lives at home,in their pastoral duties and in the community. We will alsosee the lives of their congregation as these mega ministersbare it all on Oxygen.

Now from what we know of reality TV we canquestion if this a pure entertainment offering or if we willbe shown how these men of God work to plant more seedsfor God to nurture and grow or a means to increase theirincome? Here’s Oxygen’s rundown of the pastors:

Bishop Noel Jones: A Jamaican born into poverty butnow lives on a Malibu hilltop with a viewof the Pacific Ocean. He is pastor of achurch full of celebrities and the brotherof Grace Jones who is headed towardsretirement and looking for a successorwho he can entrust his life’s work. Butfinding the right man is harder than it

sounds.Deitrick Haddon: The son of a bishop and an

evangelist who has been preaching from the age of elevenand conducting the church choir atthirteen. At 23, he married the leadsoprano in the church choir but after theydivorced his members turned away fromhim. Aside from the call on his life, the onething that helped him from hitting rockbottom was his music. At an impasse in life

Pastor Haddon has to choose his path to go down.Which one will he choose?

Bishop Clarence McClendon:McClendon is a charismatic andubiquitous deliverer of the Gospelthrough his internationally broadcast he

reaches 250 million homes each week. He uses acontemporary approach to sharing the Gospel whoseMinistry spans from skid row to the estates of Bel Air.

Pastor Wayne Chaney: At the age of 20, Chaney gotthe call from God and has grown tobecome a prominent pastor of the churchhis grandfather built, Antioch. Antioch isthe leading church in its community. With an ability to communicate complextruths in a simple way, Pastor Chaney hashelped remarkably grow the church, along with the help of his secret weapon,

his wife, gospel artist Myeshia Chaney. Poised to becomethe next mega-church with the ability to reach millionsworldwide, there’s an obstacle in the way and it comes fromwithin Pastor Wayne’s own family.

Bishop Ron Gibson: Born in Compton, addicted todrugs before he was a teenager, a leader of the Crips by the

time he was 16, a robber and a pimp,Bishop Ron Gibson now changes thelives of 4,500 people each week at theLife Church of God in Christ, which hestarted with only nine people in thecongregation. With his s accumulatedwealth, power and purpose there is onething he and his wife long for – a child.

Pastor Jay Haizlip: One of the pioneering greats ofcompetitive skateboarding, Pastor Haizlip, originally from

Gadsden, Alabama he collected trophies, big paychecks and high-end sponsors, butfell deep into drugs and the crack housesof Huntington Beach and Long Beach,California. He is now back in the samecrack houses again only not to use drugsbut to save souls for God.

Should we see reality TV with the Men ofGod or should they keep their work in the pulpit?
