INTRODUCTIONThe ELEPS Module is designed to help the English Language teachers in the primary schools to have a better understanding of the UPSR Examination. However, having a good understanding of the UPSR Examination is not enough to stand on its own. Pupils need to be taught good basics of the English Language especially in the areas of grammar and writing skills as well as sufficient vocabulary. Thus, the ELEPS Module will provide teachers with practical tips, ideas and resources. It goes hand in hand with another useful and practical module Pocketful Of Grammar. It is hoped that this module will contribute to the enhancement of the UPSR English Language results and the standard of English in the primary schools.

Tips For Teachers

The Task

Pupils are to answer 40 multiple-choice questions ( A, D, C or D ).

Very Important!

Pupils should:

1. NEVER shade two answers for the same question. No marks will be given even if one of the chosen answers is the correct answer!2. Erase an answer to be changed carefully so as not to be detected as having two answers to the same question.

Tips For Teachers

1. Pupils should have a basic command of the English language. basic grammar * a minimum range of vocabulary**2. Teachers should pay attention to the correct use of subject-verb agreements.3. Spelling tests should be given regularly.4. Encourage pupils to keep a handy V-Bank exercise book to write down good tips, new / difficult words, interesting phrases and sentences.

LearningPoints

Introduction This section is designed to help teachers guide pupils to get better results.

Look at the answers for Band A, Band B and Band C, and decide at which band you can start the pupils from.

Remember that few pupils can start from Band A. Start weak pupils at Band C to build a good foundation first before proceeding to Band B. Remember that success in examination is about hard work and the right attitude, not luck! What the examiners look for Examiners are obviously looking for the right answers! However the answers do not have to match phrasing the examiners marking scheme word for word. Understand the marking scheme as a whole ( holistic view ). Pupils do not get good marks for writing many irrelevant words / phrases / sentences. Good marks come from making correct and relevant sentences. Pupils should make sure that their answers are clear, easy to read and concise.

Examination Techniques Pupils should: spend the first few minutes of the examination looking through the whole examination paper. use the allocation of time given for every question as a good guide. use the extra time ( if any ) wisely to check their answers . read through the answers carefully to make sure that they do not make silly mistakes, use the wrong tenses, miss out important details or go out of topic.ELEPS: UPSR Tips For Paper 2 [SK Schools]Section A

Sample Answer For Band A Last week, Nordin was getting ready to cycle to school. His mother shouted, Nordin, remember to bring your raincoat!

Its in my bag! Bye, mum! replied Nordin. So off he went.

The school day ended. Nordin was tired and quickly cycled home. Soon dark clouds started to form and there was a strong wind blowing. Nordin became worried because his house was far from his school. He started to cycle as fast as lightning. He knew that it would rain at any moment. He stopped his bicycle and quickly got down. He wanted to get his raincoat from his bag. To his dismay, he realized that he had forgotten to bring his raincoat. Sadly, he continued cycling.

Suddenly, it started raining cats and dogs. He was totally drenched and was shivering with cold. His bag was very wet too.

When Nordin reached home, he quickly parked his bicycle and ran into his house. His worried mother advised him to take a bath immediately. She was grateful that her son had reached home safely. After taking his bath, he covered himself with a blanket to keep warm. He felt sick and was feverish. His mother made him a hot glass of milk before sending him to bed.

Nordin regretted for being forgetful. He promised himself that he would bring his raincoat to school every day. He had learnt his lesson.
