A Note to the Reader
This Comprehension-based™ reader is based on a legend that has circulated throughout Colombia, as well as other parts of Latin America. It is written strategically and comprehensibly to help learners easily pick up Span-ish while enjoying an engaging read. The story is written with numerous high-frequency words, familiar cognates and useful grammatical structures that are masterfully woven together to tell a compelling story.
All words and phrases that are used to tell the story are listed in a comprehensive glossary found at the back of the book. In addition, more advanced words and grammatical structures are footnoted at the bottom of the page where each occurs. We suggest you peruse the glos-sary to identify words you already know and also to familiarize yourself with other words and phrases that may be new or that are used in new ways.
We hope you enjoy the story and enjoy reading your way to FLUENCY in the process.

– Mamá, ¡no seas ridícula!

Zaria no quería continuar esa conversación absurda.
– Zaria, no vayas sola. Que tu papá vaya con-tigo.
– ¡Ay, no!… –le respondió Zaria en protesta–. Yo voy sola.
