What the Ice Cream Ladies and Ice Cream Man Taught Me …. ….I so enjoy having coffee and donuts on Sundays and our quarterly pizza nights ~ the chance to come together as community, eat together, and share good times together. If you came to our last pizza night, I hope you were as delighted as I was to be served ice cream by the children - served so joyfully and with a spirit of giving. They took the JOY from enjoy and kicked it up to a whole new level! ….I envied their uninhibited joy in giving of their natural talent to serve our community. ….I wondered...how do we as adults share joy? Maybe we tend to take our joy down a notch, not as exuberant; or maybe we’re more reluctant to share it with others, so we keep it close to our hearts. The children showed me that the joy in giving is innate; it’s not something that must be learned or practiced. ….Then it suddenly struck me ~ joy is generously shared with us weekly, perhaps not in happy shrieks or running around, but every bit as genuine, heartfelt and loving. I see it in the face of the Eucharistic Minister, joyfully offering me communion. I see it in the faces of the choir as they joyfully offer their voices to praise God. I see it in the faces of the altar servers, lectors, and greeters every time they offer their time and talent to serve us. And, of course, in the faces of the wonderful people who serve us coffee and donuts and pizza! ….Recently, a brief description of each ministry was published in the bulletin. And, I read week after week in the bulletin, as you do, that we are in great need of ministers during Mass. Can I ask you to please share your joy with all of us? ….I remember when we first started serving coffee and donuts and we searched for volunteers. A woman came to me and offered to help, confiding that she struggles with shyness, but felt called to do something to serve our community. Every time she was scheduled, she had to make a conscious effort To overcome her shyness, yet she faithfully served once a month until she moved away. How many of us have to work that hard to be able to serve our community? ….The responsibilities of the many ministries are not so difficult or time consuming. Greeters come early to welcome us to church. Choir members practice once a week. Lectors proclaim a couple of times every quarter. Eucharistic ministers serve during communion, while the altar servers serve throughout the Mass. ….It is the time of year for making resolutions - to improve our minds, to improve our bodies, to improve our souls, and to improve our communities. Please consider how you can become more involved in our weekly parish life and make a commitment to our parish community. I would be happy to talk to you; contact information is also available in the bulletin, on our website and in the office. And so I ask you again ~ please share your joy with all of us! Janice Dyer

Each week we will suggest one or two items that
we need. Of course, you may donate any of the items at any time and they will be gratefully appreciated. There is also a sign with “Items Always in Need” on the food donations boxes. There will be a follow up reminder in each week’s bulletin. If many of us take part in the project think of how much food we will be able to give to the needy!
