Pyramus and Thisbe

• Lovers who were forbidden by their parents to be wed.

• Through a crack in one of the walls, they whisper their love for each other.

• They arrange to meet near at Ninus' tomb under a mulberry tree and state their feelings for each other.

• However, Pyramus mistook Thisbe’s death by a lion and committed suicide. When Thisbe found Pyramus died, she killed herself, too.

• In the end, the gods listen to Thisbe's lament, and forever change the colour of the mulberry fruits into the stained colour to honour the forbidden love.

Orpheus and Eurydice

• Orpheus was a legendary musician.

• He had the ability to charm all living things and even stones with his music.

• Orpheus’ wife, Eurydice, died of a bite from a poisonous snake.

• In order to bring Eurydice back, Orpheus went down to the Underworld.

• H is music moved Persephone and Hades and they made a deal to let Orpheus lead Eurydice back.

• However, Orpheus was so happy that he broke the rule with Hades unintentionally. He turned to see Eurydice while she was still in the cavern. Eurydice was, thereby, slipped back to the darkness.

• In the end, Orpheus’ death was at the hands of those who could not hear his divine music, the Maenads.

Ceyx and Alcyone

• Ceyx, the son of the morning star was the king of the Greek city of Trachis. He was married to Alcyone, whose father Aeolus was the keeper of the winds. The two were very much in love.

• Ceyx decided to travel across the sea to consult the Delphic Oracle. However, he had only traveled a short distance into his journey before a huge storm suddenly erupted over the water.

• Unaware that any harm had befallen upon her husband, Alcyone prayed to Hera to protect Ceyx and to provide him with a quick and safe return home.

• Hera's servant instructed Sleep to send Alcyone a vision revealing the sad truth about Ceyx's death at sea.

• When Alcyone woke up, she gazed and found Ceyx’s body in the sea. She rushed to the water but didn’t get drown. Instead, she became a bird.

• Ceyx also took on the shape of a bird and united with Alcyone.

• Pygmalion was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he had carved.

• Venus granted his wish and made Galatea came alive.

• They were an old kind couple who served and helped Zeus and Mercury in poor travelers‘ disguises.

• She was Apollo’s first love, but Daphne rejected him.

• In the end, she was turned, with unknown reason, into a laurel tree.

Alpheus and Arethusa

• A beautiful young hunter, one of Artemis’ followers.

• She was loved by the god of river, Alpheus.
