What an amazing start by our Channel fraternity after a tough 2017 -18 which

saw the introduction of GST to bring in Growth, Simplicity & Transparency. The

country took huge strides towards, increasing compliance, formalization, productivity, transpa-

rency & ease of doing business.

India is moving away from Inspector Raj to Information Tech-nology, thus leaving no scope for manual discretion. From Returns to

Refunds, everything happens online.

The channel business grew more than 40% over the corresponding period of last fiscal. We now have to keep up this momentum for 3 more quarters, coupled with the growth of direct solution business in Process Automation & Industrial Automation. We expect stupendous growth in Infrastructure & few chosen verticals. The company has organized its human resources accordingly. FEI needs to be fleet footed, agile & be a Value Added Partner to Channel Partners.

Our overseas visit to Turkey with our participating CP’s have greatly bonded the relationship. Many of the willing CP’s, who reserved their seats for participation earlier opted out @ the last minute due to the perceived Global ten-sion. This did not deter the spirit of the vibrant participants which was glittered with FEI employees who act as the interfacing points of our Channel Management Program.

Thanks to the wonderful job of our Channel Manager due to which we have completed the signing of the agreement for the fiscal 18-19. It was a significant task since the program encompassed 103 market access partners in various competencies & product platforms. I recall my declaration in my last CP Net editorial, wherein I assured you of the change in FEI DNA. Happy to inform you that we have achieved miles in this area & have today addressed areas which was hitherto unaddressed – viz UFM’s from Indian Railways, entry into Ordinance Factory & RBI.

Proud of my team & our association!

Dear Channel Partners,

I was blessed with the opportunity of leading the 7th Channel Partners meet at Istanbul, Turkey – a histori-cal place dotted with scenic beaches, tall mountains, ruins of ancient empires, small idyllic villages, lovely cuisine’s and a huge cosmopolitan city. Thank you for showing an immense energy and power to make it a grand success & create a bench mark for the industry.

‘‘Rev Up theme’’ of the CP meet was to synergise the strengths of FEF, FEE & their Distributor in Turkey, FEJ, Hakko & FEI Channel fraternity. The program was split in two sessions. Pre-lunch session was dedicated to FEI / FEJ speakers talking on operational aspects, industry vertical priorities, service updates, PA and Field inst success stories, best practices from CP’s. Factory automation message from was delivered by Hara San duly assisted by Hakko team. The post lunch was dedicated to FEE introduction and their market access mo-del, energy saving through mix of FE products with case studies. We had an extensive interaction with our CPs for a feedback on 7th CP meet followed by question & answer session. The session ended with a group photo shoot. Thereafter, we hurried to assemble at the lobby for cruise dinner.

The evening program was glittered with an Award Ceremony, which was punctuated with Fun, Frolic & En-tertainment at the cruise with traditional shows and a million of clicks with colourful light shows at Bospho-rus longest suspension bridge which connects Europe and Asia. Thank you for showing your hidden talents in dancing. Next 3 days were for site seeing of museums, mosque, Taksim Square, Bursa, Grand Mosque, Uludag Mountain and Grand Bazaar.

Fiscal 18-19 should definitely herald changes with our international exposure in bigger FE world.

Transporters preference – Anto Varkey

FEI normally transports their traded or drive manufactured pro-ducts through any of the following Couriers –

• Gati

• Bluedart

• SafexpressEvery year FEI conducts a survey of the CP’s for their choice of transporters based on their percep-tion of service & quality of the transporter & their human interface. The opinions differ every year & based on the feedback, we allocate the transporter to the CP’s. This year the survey was targeted @ a sample size of 120. Fifty Channel Partners indicated a change of the transporter.

We appreciate the customers feedback & have taken the decision of abiding with the request of change. Others will continue to enjoy the services of the existing ones.

In an ex-work order, customer picks the material from warehouse. Customer arranges own transport to move the materials from warehouse since under ex-work order, ownership of the material passes imme-diately after removing the same from warehouse. However, we receive many orders with freight / trans-portation in our scope at a fixed amount or at an actual freight amount, with or without transit insurance.

In the previous Excise regime, law maker’s contention was whether excise was applicable on the amount charged to the customer for the service of transportation of goods, with or without transit insurance pro-vided by the Seller under a separate contract or under a separate clause in the same contract for supply.

Under current GST regime, the bone of contention is whether GST will be applicable on the amount charged to the customer for service of transportation under the ex-work contracts. If so, then what should be the rate of GST?

The Authority observed that:

GST applicability for ex-work orders – Ashes Nandi

• There may be two separate contracts entered by the Seller for supply of goods and the supply of trans-portation services or a single contract of supply on ex-work with a clause of service of transportation along with or without transit insurance.

• The Seller may not be providing any transportation services but may hire the services of a goods transport agency to enable the transportation of goods that are to be supplied under the contract. Thus, since the transportation services are not provided by the Seller, they will not be eligible for the benefit of exemption enshrined under Entry 18 of Notification No 12/2017 – Central Tax (Rate) dated 28.06.2017.

• The supply under the contract cannot be undertaken without the supply of services and thus both sup-plies ‘‘are provided in conjunction with each other’’ and are naturally bundled and qualify for ‘composite supply’ under CGST Act.

• Both the contracts being indivisible composite contracts, the entire transaction qualifies as a compo-site supply of goods with principal supply being the supply of goods and services such as transportation, in-transit insurance, etc. are ancillary / incidental to the principal supply. The tax rate of the principal sup-ply will apply on the entire supply.

The above ruling provides a clear guidance of applicability of GST and the rate which need to be follow during execution of ex-work orders. FEI will abide by the same & our contracts supply chain team have been made aware of the same.

Sales team need to book the order accordingly!

Our FY18-19 growth run started with a bang with the highly suc-cessful CP meet @ the historic city of Istanbul, Turkey. At present we all

are pumped up to press the paddle for Sales Growth in Drives and Automation. The result of 1st Quarter is on the right track with room for further improvement. N-Micro

sales on PAN India basis has made a decent slot for itself in our Drive family. General Purpose ACE which is “India Drive Factory Product” is surely a priority for us .The “Solar Pump Controller” which started in the Ace version has now stabilized in the Mini platform also comes of our India Drive factory.

The FEI’s growth story of N-Mini based “Solar Pump Controller” has been recognized by Fuji Electric Japan & our team led by Prabal received the “Bronze medal of Tomotaka San (Power Electronics System Group Head) award”. Congratulation to the entire team! It all started way back in 2013, when our Drive & Motion Product Manager, Prabaljeet Kalia heard about Government’s priority mission of Solar Pump Controller’s for Irrigation purpose & providing subsidies for the same through various nodal agencies.

The Solar Drive journey began with pursuing the thought

Tomotaka San Bronze Medal award- M. Chalke

process in FEI & thereafter in FEJ leading to the design & development of the Product. Over the past 5 years there were many learnings for us during which we changed the base model from ACE to N-Mini due to competitive challenges, evolving customer needs & stringent MNRE guidelines. Now, for the past 2 & ½ year, N-Mini based Solar Pump Controller is the most successful in the market place and gained many heights against the European and Chinese players, across India.

Thanks to few of our lead Channel Partners like DICS, Powertronics, Unique, Desire whose handholding during the bumpy ride helped us to scale the heights. We also had a tireless Sales Engineer in the form of Che-tan along with unflinching support from Pravin of our Central Service Department & Mr Yogesh Dalvi our Manufacturing Head helped us in our conquest program.

Today, we are on the way to have a score of 20,000 controllers spanning the country. Now it’s time to repeat the story not only for Solar Pump Controller Sales but also for D&A Sales in 2nd Quarter.

Happy Sales!

In Today’s manufacturing work environment, we need to be focused on Continual impro-vement to be a leader in terms of Cost, Qua-lity and Delivery. We need to continuously improve our way of work using Lean and Six sigma methodology.

We are pleased to share one of improved work efficiency and space optimization in manufacturing warehouse. As all the raw material required for manufacturing is from Fuji Thailand and have on time delivery is-sues, same space allocation in warehouse was not stable. Due to the change in input stock of material there were no space left in allocated location. We have analyzed last one-year’s data for Inventory fluctuation and material consumption on monthly basis as per Bin location and average consump-tion per month.

Based on the data we concluded that there was a scope of improvement as some bin location were utilized less than 50 % and some were more than 100 %. We did loca-tion balancing based on 2 Month inventory stock as a base. Immediate inprovement was observed-

Earlier Bin used--- 666 Nos

Presently used --- 522 Nos for same 2-mon-th raw material Inventory.

Un-utilised Space could be used for Future expansion.

Work Efficiency was improved by using spaghetti diagram and reduced man mo-vement for picking material. The pictorial presentation for 2 models 22E2S & 29E2S are encouraging.

Before Change

After Change Pictorial Presentation

Key Learnings: There is always the scope of impro-vement and we should continually strive to improve step by step which will effectively reduce Cost and Improve Quality and Productivity.

Lift vertical being one of the major contributor in FEI Business, our management is stren-gthening its activity by adding required resources in the regions. As a part of this activity M.

Vijin Joined as Sales service support engineer in South region.

With the three plus years’ experience as a lift commissioning engineer in Kamai Elevator; Vijin has very good knowledge of electro-mechanicals of lift and a monthlong training session during induction at CC he

has trained on basic products of FEI, our various solutions for lifts and to hands-on training at site made him lethal weapon to diagnose and resolve the technical issues faced by our CPs during commissioning period and

same has been seen in some of the cases as mentioned below

At one of the site of Aravind technology; our CP engineer faced OT error in Frenic Lift drive on while installing all the new drives, after visiting two sites it is found that wrong pole settings and improper motor tuning was the root cause for the issue.

In short period Vijin acknowledged the major problems of our CP is Rollback and advised the solution for the same as below:

To understand the root cause of roll back it need to observe the current taken by the drive in down direction; if it is going in overcurrent means lift system is pointing towards unbalance of car & counter weight. In such condition it was imperative to follow the lift balancing procedure....

1. Run the Empty Car in Inspection mode continuously in UP direction, from bottom floor to top floor. Note the drive’s output Current. Then Empty Car to be run on DOWN direction, from top floor to bottom floor. Note the drive’s output Current. Repeat steps 1 and 2 one more time and compute the average of the output currents for UP and DOWN directions.

2. The difference between these readings should be less than 1.0 ampere.

3. If the difference is greater than 1.0 Amp in UP direction, then the Car is heavy. Add weight to the Counterweight side and repeat steps 1 and 2 above until the difference is reduced to below 1.0 Amp; If the difference is greater than 1.0 Amp in DOWN direction, then the Counterweight is heavy. Remove weight from the Counterweight side and repeat steps 1 and 2 above until the difference is reduced to below 1.0 Amp.

Thumb rule to the decide counter weight is equivalent to Car weight and 50% passenger capacity. After com-pleting the proper load balancing, small parametrization like the brake open/close delay time ( L82, L83 & L86 ) need finetune.

In Electromechanical industries generally blame comes on drives even in case of mechanical faults and if there are inherent mechanical issues in the lift VVF Drives cannot provide smooth rides and if we failed to diagnose the root cause, customer blames to drive performance. Now with the presence of Vijin, we are sure our Southern CPs will get trained to diagnose mechanical root cause and provide smooth ride of lifts and by gaining customer’s confidence will contribute to the lift business growth.

Integrated drives from China badly affected the growth of FEI in this market segment. East region was ex-pecting more than 30% growth in Lift business; but due to the integrated drives foray the lift business grew by 9.5% in East Region.

Achieving corporate target of growth of 30% can be possible by growing the geared lift business and getting back the Frenic lift business with unified solution and this is possible by increasing the reach in East region. For this purpose, FEI along with MC Control our Channel Partner arranged seminars in Bhubaneshwar and Guwahati.

The events were co-shared @ on 11th June @ Bhubaneswar & on 14th June @ Guwahati. The events brought together more than 40 participants from 25 OEMs.. Fuji Electric’s various products including regenerative solution grabbed the attention of all OEMs. ACE-lift has become popular in these areas due to its distinctive features. All OEMS were very much enthusiastic since this event gave them opportunity to interact with Fuji representatives. All customers showed their interest for Fuji-DMG unified solution due to its unique features and safety compliances.

To harness the served territory & due to overwhelming seminar response, MC control promised to keep dedicated engineers and sales persons. Hence, we are sure to have an incremental growth in this region.

Frenic ACE has brake logic dedicated for lift application which is operated by a brake monitoring signal (BRKS). This signal is active high only when run command and speed command are present. Brake opening depends on value of current and frequency, but for closing it is dependent only on frequency.

In case of failure in drive output circuit, where the drive does not generate any alarm, there is a possibility of overshoot of elevator cabin, which is a dangerous situation. This can be avoided if brake closing signal is monitored by both current and frequency.

In order to overcome this issue, ACE LM3 can have logic to prevent unintended car movement in absence of drive output current by use of PLC functionality inside the drive.

Lift Overshoot prevention is the major advantage of this scheme, where brakes are closed within fraction of a second after detection of any problem in drive circuitry.

This feature of Customizable Logic can be used for:

1. Lift Maintenance Alarm after certain hours of operation

2. Preventive Maintenance of drive by monitoring DC Capacitance value as well as cooling fan replacement.

3. Motor Maintenance Alarm.

FEI is market leader in elevator Industry and well established in crane vertical. With such rich experience and high brand awareness of vertical motion we entered into the Bulk Material Handling (BMH) applications. RFQs have started pouring for applications like Grab Ship Unloader (GSU), Hot redundant Pipe conveyor, Stacker & Reclaimer machines, Twin boom stacker machine, Bucket elevator and so on.

The above-mentioned products are found in industries of raw material handling like

Grab Ship Unloader (GSU), Rapid transit machine, Conveyor and Stacker and Reclaimer Machines: with the exis-ting product basket of SPH PLC, HMI and VG1 drives dedicated for saline environment FEI is ready with the system solutions for the complete raw bulk material handling applications. GSU from 3000 TPH to 7000 TPH; Hot Standby Drives for pipe conveyor systems (If one drive fails or trips, second standby drive will take over the motor without change in speed or with small change in speed of the motor); Stacker cum Reclaimer machine up to 8MTPH capa-city. A stacker is a large machine used in bulk material handling. Its function is to pile bulk material such as Coal, lime -stone, Iron ores and cereals on to a stockpile A reclaimer can be used to recover the material. This allows a single stacker to form two stockpiles, one on either side of the conveyor

Apart from the OEMS for the new systems, there are quite a lot of retrofit opportunities are coming up from the existing install base from West East, Central and South regions. The technical support and system know-how can be shared by FEI team to our CPs to grab these opportunities.

Following guidelines makes the difference between a good AC Drive installation that runs uninterruptedly for number years and that of a problematic one -

Mechanical installations:

1 The ambient operating conditions are allowable & meets the guidelines indicated in user manual. It always make sense to read the manual before powering the drive.

2 Check if the unit is fastened properly to the cabinet and cooling air flows freely. Remember heat & earthing are the biggest reasons for failures.

3 Check if the motor and the load are ready for start.

Electrical installations:

a)Capacitors need to be reformed if stored over one year (Verify manufacturing date of VFD thru Sr. no).

b) The drive is grounded properly.

c) Check the heat sink temperature, it’s cleaning & inspection of cooling fan.

d) The supply voltage is in the range of drive nominal voltage.

e) Input power is tightly coupled to R /S/ T terminals .

f) Drive is supplied through appropriate fuses or MCCBs.

g) The motor is connected to U /V /W terminals & terminals are tightened properly.

h) Motor cable length is within the specified limit as indicated in the manual.

i) Power cables & control cables are routed in separate conduits.

j) Ensure peripheral devices such as DC reactor, AC reactor, DB Unit or DB resistors are connected at respective terminals.

k) External devices such as relay, indication lamps are which are connected to I/O ter-minals of VFD, are within the specified allowable range.

l) Do not mount a phase advancing capacitors (APFC) for power factor corrections in the inverter’s input circuit. (Refer user manual for details)

m) Ensure no tools, foreign objects or dust from drilling are left inside the drive.

n) Ensure cables are neatly dressed & proper working / sealing of the cable glands gaskets.

o) Ensure right parametrisation to get the maximum features of the drive.

Last but not the least, Have trained manpower & enhance their skill sets through adequate class room & on the job training & group discussions. Bring up a main-tenance & zero failure culture within your organisation. Inculcate the age old saying “ a stitch in time saves nine”.

CSC recommends to follow the instructions and guidelines to make the right use of VFD’s during warranty period for warranty claim.

Selecting VFD’s for Centrifugal Blower Applications - Arun KP

Different Type blowers Safety glass processing machine which used centrifugal blower.

As a standard practice we are normally selecting VFD for a blower on rated motor name plate cur-rent as 120% overload. Usually such applications have long acceleration & deceleration (100-200sec)

time to achieve speed up and down because of the inertia.

Some applications using centrifugal blower requires less acceleration time to reach required speed within 10-20 sec. That is required by the Application and the Process. We came across such application where Safety glass is manufactured from normal glass by toughening process.

While selecting the blower rating in this application we must consider minimum 150% overload current be-cause the motor will take almost 140% current while accelerating to achieve the speed. This is due to the backpressure of the centrifugal blower and we are increasing the airflow by changing frequency with a small acceleration time. In that time the motor takes more than rated current to recover the backpressure and after achieving the speed the current drawn will be normal as per the motor specification.

The connected VFD should be capable to handle this gradual increase of current for 5-10sec. So before selecting drives for such blowers we should check the application, where the blower going to be used and the

operating pattern.

There are some HMI brands which are not able to commu-nicate with SPF PLC as slave plc. A new FB is being shared which allows to communicate other brand controller and HMI over MODBUS ASCII.

This function block enables the SPF PLC to work as MOD-BUS ASCII Slave. CSPF_FREE FB is used in conjunction with this FB to communicate in RS232 / RS485 Ports of SPF PLC. Modbus Slave FB accepts Function code 3, 6 and 16 only.

WL0 – WL3999 46000 - 49999

Limitations:

• Register Limitation (Only above specified registers can be accessed).

• FB occupies 2.5K steps leaving 5.5K steps free for user ap-plication in 14/24 CPU and 17.5K steps in 32/40/60 CPU.

• This will work with communication module and board

Also, Creating Position/Communication Function block’s parameter was felt tedious by few of our customers who were not familiar with data map parameterization. To make it user friendly, we developed one excel base tool to create and generate parameter program, which auto copied to clipboard and could be pasted directly to SPF Program.

In SPF PLC Programing Creating parameter list for the PLS_PARA, PLS_POS, CSPF_MODM, CSPF_FREE are done manually and sometimes interlock are not foreseen. This excel tool offers a GUI based parameterisation and interlocks are internally predicted. This tool generates an error free script based on ST language which can be pasted straight into the programming environment.

This Tool is easy to use and reduces time to setup Parameter of Position and communication.

Hope it will save time for our valued customers.

Government of India has started the “Swatchh Bharat Mission” focused on Solid Waste Management to generate Energy from the Waste. As a part of this mission the Andhra Pradesh

Government has been aggressively promoting generation of power from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The state government has plan to set up at least one model MSW-to-Energy (WtE) project in each district of the state. JITF Urban Infrastructure Limited (JUIL) had received letter of award for development of project in three clusters namely Guntur, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam. JUIL as promoter have incorporated separate companies for development of the projects on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis for converting waste to energy.

Korus Engineering Solutions Pvt Ltd. was appointed by JUIL as technical consultants for project implementa-tion.

There are two Projects, each of 15 MW power generation capacity at Guntur and Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Each plant having MSW handling capacity of 1650 TPD.

Fuji Electric, Japan had done more than 300 Incineration plant in Tokyo city and 300+ in China. This is first job which Fuji Electric India has received, it opens lot of opportunities for similar kind of jobs on PAN India basis. With this reference we can explore opportunities in other regions and our team is ready take on the challen-ges. The current project also has possibilities for expansion of scope in terms of field devices, gas analysers and CEMS.

The persistent efforts at JUIL had paid off. I personally thank Achintya Sir and Kuldeep Moza Sir for their guidance and Shoumitra Sir and Sanjeev Sir for their encouragement during the efforts for bagging this project. Thankful to all the team mates for their help.

An accurate measurement of the carbon mo-noxide (CO) concentration in the boiler flue gas can be used to achieve the goals of combustion efficiency, pollutant emission reduction, and safe operation. By measuring the concentration of CO, power plants are able fine tune the air to fuel ratio used on the burners to obtain the highest combustion efficiency. Measuring the CO concentration allows the power plants to reduce the amount combustion air used while ensuring complete combustion, reducing the production of the pollutant NOx. The concen-tration of CO in the flue gas is also the most sen-sitive indicator of unburned combustibles in the process and can indicate the emergence of an unsafe situation.

Measuring carbon monoxide (CO) can help to determine the excess oxygen setpoint. CO is the most sensitive indicator of incomplete combus-tion. As the amount of excess O2 is reduced, the emergence of CO will occur before other combustibles appear (unburnt fuel). When the concentration of CO reaches the desired set-point (typically around 400 ppm), the excess O2 concentration will be at the desired level and becomes the new excess O2 setpoint.

As the concentration of CO increases or de-creases, the excess O2 setpoint can be trim-med accordingly. CO trim control of excess O2 concentration assures

• Minimal energy loss,

• Maximum efficiency

• Rduced NOx emissions

Independent of boiler load, fuel type, humidity, moisture content of fuel and other variables that make excess O2 control difficult. The key to obtaining these benefits is an accurate and reliable measurement of CO in low ppm levels.

The performance certificate from “Godawari Power & Ispat” is a testimonial of the same.

We are very happy to share our joint application success story for Se-condary Jaw Crusher machine using our Frenic Mega VFD. Our Chan-nel Partner Ampper Control & Automation engineered the solution with our 45 KW Mega Drive.

AC drives prolong crusher machine lifetime and optimize electricity usage.

The VFD is deployed for smooth starting, minimize mechanical stresses & eliminate high starting currents. Variable speed control of jaw crusher motors does not affect the particle size. The energy needed in crushing depends on the raw material quality - variable speed control of the crusher motor enables increased crushing power whenever needed and constant throughput of crushed material.

Our implemented solution provide many benefits viz-

1 Optimize electricity usage being of paramount importance.

2 Reduce wear and tear of mechanical systems with smooth starting thus increasing Crusher life.

3 Ability to increase the crushing power to compensate for weakened crushing effect due to hammer wear

4 No reactive power consumption

5 Easy change of motor rotational direction to unblock jammed crusher

6 Increase motor protection against the UV/OV, UL/OL/Short circuit….

7 Utilization of other motor load with the same demand

Two more sites have confirmed Orders on M/s. Ampper Controls and we strive for more such successes.

Parameterization of DC drive was simple, it was possible with help of user manual. Quick guide and Softcopy of user manual (pen drive) was available with drive as default. The parameterization was done through Laptop with Driveweb savvy software. Features such as tachometer feedback, encoder feedback and thermistor feed-back is built-in the DC drive. It was a different type of learning with different method of control.

It was an interaction of different type. Normally @ the workfield I face AC Motors with it’s compatible AC drives .With a decades experience in wide application areas, I have become reasonably apt to the challenges of variable frequency drives. Recently, I received a challenge of different type. On receiving an order of DC drive for CNC machine spindle application from our Channel Partner leader Powertronics, given the as was my first commissioning experience with DC drive application. It was a spindle application, high starting torque & speed accuracy was required for the perfection of job. The machine manufacturer was MAX MULLER from Germany and they were using Mitsubishi CNC controller for controlling the whole machine. From the controller +/- 10VDC analog signal was received for the speed control. The polarity of the analog signal decided the direction of the spindle. Our DC drive have the digital and analog signals for the controlling the system.
