World Heart Day Celebrations at Lourdes Hospital

Lourdes Hospital jointly with IMA cochin and Kerala Police celebrates this year’s World Heart Day on September 28th at the Hospital Auditorium. Sri Mohammed Y. Safirullah IAS, the District collector will be the chief Guest. Dr. M. Narayanan, President, IMA cochin and Sri M.P. Dinesh IPS, the city Police commissioner will felicitate the occasion. There will be awareness seminar, public function, screening camps, poster exhibition, free Lab. Tests including Blood sugar, Cholesterol, body fat detection, ECG, diet counseling. Echo/Doppler, Treadmill Test, Angiogram, Angioplasty and Byepass surgery will be done for selected patients at reduced rates and free through the “Hridhayamrutham” program instituted by Lourdes Hospital.The first state of the art Cath Lab in Kerala GE IGS 520 Gen 3 recently installed in Lourdes Hospital will be inaugurated by District collector. Dr George Thayil, Dr. S. Sujithkumar and Dr. G. Arunkumar will be coordinating the seminar and camp.

IMA Cochin Clinical meeting - 30.9.2017Dr. Arun Menon

This session provided an excellent academic feast with 6 clinical case presentations. cases ranged from orthopedics to Neonatology to General medicine and eachcase highlighted some important lesson for clinicians. n The first case presented by Dr. Rojo Joy from Lourdes hospital was that of a newborn with respiratory distress due to a diaphragmatic cause. The case touched upon the common and uncommon reasons that one should be aware of when dealing with such infants. n The second case dealt with advent of cutting edge technology in orthopaedics i.e. shoulder and hip prosthesis with excellent long term results. Dr Bibi Dhanan from Aster hospital presented these cases.n Dr Neena Shileen from Sunrise hospital highlighted the importance of looking beyond the obvious in a child who presented with multiple joint pains.The mucocutaneous manifestations finally led to a diagnosis of autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 1. n A difficult case of cerebral malaria in a young immigrant worker from North East underlined the importance of sticking to basics when taking a history and requesting the appropriate test ( which in this case was a peripheral blood smear ). Dr Suraj, physician from Sunrise hospital emphasised the need to commence definitive therapy promptly in this otherwise fatal condition.n Dr Warun Kumar from Amrita hospital presented the story of young twin sisters with asymptomatic renal impairment who turned to have a rare genetic condition , familial hypomagnesemiahypercalciuriasyndrome.n Dr Manoj Joseph from Silver line hospital impressed upon us the importance of good glucose control in type 2 diabetes with a case that presented with high Hba1c and choreiform movements which reversed on optimal treatment of diabetes. Dr Manoj won the best presentation award adjudged on the basis of the content and quality of presentation. The feedback from the audience was very positive with requests for more such sessions in future.
