NAPLAN Results The initial release of some NAPLAN results are currently being analysed at school by Executive Teachers and Instructional Leaders. Early indications highlight good results across Year 3, a credit to our Early Action for Success literacy and numeracy programs in Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2. Parents will receive their child’s results in September once all of the marking for writing has been completed.
Uniforms Reminder to all families that students are to wear school uniform to school everyday as this encourages a sense of belonging. Please discourage your child from wearing out of uniform items. Representative PSSA sports jumpers are the exception only.

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had two reported cases of Influenza A this week and several students have been absent due to cold like symptoms. An information sheet was sent home this week from the Department of Health outlining what people should do and how to prevent the spread of Influenza.
If you suspect that your child may have Influenza please seek medical attention and contact the office to advise them.
Fathers Day
We are looking forward to the P&C Fathers’ Day Stall this Friday in the Library. Our P&C work behind the scenes planning fun events and fund raising for our school. Please support this day, $5 will get a great gift for Dad.
Robotics Challenge
The Robotics challenge was well attended this week with Sophie, Jake, Jillian and Lucas representing BVPS at Tathra.
Class News 5R Blueback Our class has been studying Blueback by Tim Winton. We have enjoyed listening to the story, completing literacy activities and discussing the central theme of sustainability relating to the ocean. We are learning to correctly plan and structure a persuasive text in writing. Anywhere Island Assignment Mrs Roberts has been impressed by the efforts made by students in 5R to complete an assignment this term. There have been some very impressive presentations! Bournda Emma S and Skyla A visited Bournda EEC last week to participate in a photography in nature themed enrichment day. Comments from Skyla and Emma included: “It was fun being outdoors, taking the photos and learning about different photography techniques”. Some of their photography is illustrated below. Four more students form 5R have been selected to attend the “Good Wasp, Bad Wasp” Science day and have
already placed their trap at school. They are looking forward to completing their research at Bournda. Buddies One of the major highlights for the term has been our Buddy sharing time with KM on Monday afternoons. We have started by listening to Kindergarten
reading their books and look forward to planning more activities together this year. Literacy and Maths Groups This term we have had a goal of collaborating in a positive manner during daily literacy and maths groups in class. For this to be successful in 5R, we are learning different roles when participating in small groups. Mrs Roberts is looking forward to all students continuing in a positive manner for the remainder of the year.
Class News 1/2R
This week we have been learning about 3D objects and space. We did a 3D ninja quest where we got into groups and looked for 3D objects that were around our school. We also built prisms and pyramids with connecting shapes. We did an activity to match the objects to their nets by visualising the outside of the object. With Mr Bell we looked at 3D objects from different views and drew the faces that we could see.

Class News 3/4P It has been a very productive time in 3/4 P. Some lovely poetry has been produced as we discussed different forms and types and the use of similes, personification, vivid imagery & hyperbole. I have been impressed with the creative ability and wonderful descriptive language the students have used. We have also wrapped a unit in History where the students looked into different types of celebrations all over Australia and then the world. As a homework task, students researched an international celebration and presented it for news. The class has also enjoyed learning about Living Things for their Science unit, researched an endangered animal, put together a detailed information report and did a final presentation with a poster or slideshow. It is also my last week with 3/4 P as I’m off on
maternity leave, so the wonderful Dee Munro will
be taking over. I have had an incredible year with
my class, they have impressed me so much with
their commitment to succeed in all learning areas. I
will be back to visit them once bub arrives. A big
thank you to all the staff, students and parents who
have supported me in this journey of teaching my
own class, it has been uplifting experience.

Library News
A big thankyou to all those who supported our annual “Book Fair.” As you know 10% of the total sales comes back to the library for the purchase of quality literature for our school community to enjoy. Apologies if your child is still waiting for their book/s as some books were very popular and are still on order. The Premier’s Reading Challenge finishes on the 31st August…so if your child is taking part in the challenge they must have their 20 books added onto their reading record online by then. K-2 students have had the 20 books read to them in class and therefore have successfully completed the challenge. Those 3-6 students who have independently completed the challenge will receive a book prize from the library as well as the completion certificate from PRC organisation.
BOOK CLUB is due back to the office on: MONDAY 2nd
SEPTEMBER.
