Palmdale Power Plant

• Southern California Edison’s proposed solar plant near Lake Los Angeles.

• The site is located east of 240th Street East near Avenue S.

• Edison Mission Energy has applied for a permit to build a 150 megawatt photovoltaic plant on 1100 acres which can produce enough energy for 50,000 homes.

• This project would consist of 2 million solar panel modules. Also, no water is required.

• It will bring 200 construction jobs and can be operational within a year.

• According to the AV Press, So Cal Edison has 20 proposed projects. This is one of them.

Kaiser Coming To Town

• Lancaster City Council has approved work on improving the drainage in order for Kaiser Permanente and a shopping center to begin construction

• Construction began to convert Amargosa Creek into a covered concrete channel

• Shopping center on 10th Street West across from Lancaster City Park

• Kaiser has already purchased a 40 acre site for a future hospital to be completed by 2018 and medical offices sooner in 2015.

• The City is funding the drainage project and hopes to have the improvements completed by 2010.

• A 270,000–acre working ranch • Located about 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of

Bakersfield• The Ranch’s plans for limited development are focused on the western edge

of the Ranch:– Centennial a master–planned sustainable new town community on

about 11,700 acres at the southern end of the ranch in Los Angeles County. Nearly half of the community will be preserved as open space.

– Tejon Mountain Village, an exceptional environmentally sensitive resort community.

– Tejon Industrial Complex, a 1,400-acre complex located on busy Interstate–5 near its junction with Highway 99. The complex is expected to generate 6,000 jobs and $5.5 million in annual new taxes for Kern County at completion.

Palmdale Regional Hospital

• 380,000 square foot Palmdale Regional Medical Center to opening May, 2010.

• Employees will transfer from Lancaster Community Hospital .

• 200 positions will be added for nurses to staff the emergency rooms, maternity ward, intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital will start off with 127 beds and then increase to 239, necessitating about 1200 staff to cover.

• Overall, the Regional Center is projected to boost the economy by about $280 million dollars in the Antelope Valley.

• Built along a slope so the hospital varies in size from one story at the southern end to three stories at the eastern wing to five stories at the western wing.

• Location is Trade Center Drive and Fifth Street West. Next door to Embassy Suites!

• The other bookend is the Palmdale Regional Medical Center, so as you can see, land is getting scarce!

Water flows to Palmdale!

• A storage tank has been built to

accommodate the growing needs of the Antelope Valley.

• According to AV Press, “Construction of Storage Tank No. 4 at Avenue M and Fifth Street East will help Waterworks District 40 better serve customers in northeast Palmdale and the surrounding communities”.

• The cost will be $3 million dollars. • Construction will begin this year in July. This

tank will help improve water service and distribution to citizens.

• Palmdale is striving to continuously improve its infrastructure as more people move into the Valley.
