Boyle Senior Center, Inc., invites all senior citizens of Cayuga County to participate in its recreational, educational, cultural, and community service programs.

We serve as an information center to answer your concerns and needs.

Mark Twain once said, “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” If you can be anything in the world, Be Kind! It costs nothing, and takes little effort and can be rewarding to the soul. Consider be-coming an anonymous angel (more info inside) and spread kindness to someone. We are all different, but the same—we are all part of humankind and happen to live at the Boyle Center. Some of you have come from far walks of life, others lived around the corner until you moved here. Many of you are very independent and have natural resources whether family, friends or financial means but some are not as fortunate. Some of you drive, ride a bike, run marathons, but others need assistive devices to be mobile. Please do not judge each other, you don’t know what storm of life someone is going through, or what mountain they have climbed.

It occurred to me that the same factors that affected our adolescence follow us throughout life and while we cer-tainly all heard the Golden Rule, some never learned to live by it. We have all repeated the fictional nursery rhyme, “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me.” Unfortunately, we have all seen or felt the affects of hurtful words and could benefit from living by other words of wisdom, “If you have nothing Nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”

We will be focusing on mind, body and spirit wellness this month. There will be a presentation on Bullying among Seniors (yes seniors), Yoga on Wednesdays, and the movies, Wonder & Mean Girls which can teach us all a lesson in kindness. -Angelia Mack, Service Coordinator

The neighbors thought it was

odd, but 93 year old Morton was

dating again. One Monday

morning Morton woke up with a

funny feeling that something

important happened last night. It

was during breakfast, that

Morton finally remembered what

it was. He had proposed to his

date Greta. But what she

answered he just couldn’t seem

to remember. Morton picked up

the phone and dialed. “Hi Greta”,

said Morton, “I have a funny

question for you, do you

remember last night when I

proposed?” “Oh my gosh”

gushed Greta, “I’m so glad you

called, I knew I said yes to some-

body but I just couldn’t recall who

it was!”

It’s Your Page...

Yo Yo’s are Important

I was living in Panama City Fla. In 1972. My girlfriend and I decided to go to Ohio to visit my family as she had never met them and we had been together for 4 years. After the visit we decided to go to highway 1 on the East Coast to see the cities on the number one highway in the U.S.. During our trip we were left off on an expressway ramp in Virginia. Surprisingly there just happened to be 27 groups of hitch hikers already on the ramp. Realizing that it was impossible to get a ride under those circum-stances I brain stormed a plan. I walked the ramp telling everyone that if we all got off the ramp except one group it would surely go much better for everyone. They agreed and within two hours we were the only ones left on the ramp. The last person before us held up something as he was leaving then placed it on the pavement. I walked up the ramp to find an expensive yoyo that he left behind to show his appreciation. I was so honored that I put that yo yo to work and learned how to use it. -By Henry Cooper

My apologies! These words of wisdom

were submitted by Shirley Mosher last

month.

Good Friends are like stars, you don’t always see

them but you know they are ALWAYS THERE.

What a beautiful world it would be if people had

hearts like DOGS.

People who wonder if the glass is half empty or

half full miss the point. The glass is refillable.

When Life gives you Rainy Days, Wear Cute

Boots and jump in the Puddles.

Go Braless...It pulls the wrinkles out of your face.

A Gummy Bear

A man went into the garden center and bought his

plants and seeds for his garden. He asked the

service clerk for the best fertilizer that they had to

help his plants grow. The clerk said that he could

sell him the fertilizer, but that the best fertilizer is

old cow manure. The man went to the nearby farm

and asked for manure from the oldest cow he had.

Attention Ladies

Great News: There’s a pill that reverses aging. The

crux of the story are the side effects. Side Effects

may include, fatigue, hair loss, back pain, clogged

arteries, constipation, hypertension and memory

loss.

Oh, well we can’t have it all.

-The older I get the better I was.

-How useful it would be to put a daily limit on self

pity.

-Our Society has such a shortage of compassion.

More Useful Information

Today (7/22/19) we had a very interesting and informative talk

on depression and anxiety disorders from two representatives

from the Cayuga County Community Mental Health Center.

They explained everything you need to know about anxiety and

depression disorders and where to go and when for assistance

with these problems.

It was another very interesting and informative segment of the

great new Health and Wellness Series.
