Wonder and Discovery
What if you had the chance to visit a wetlands area nearby? What wetlands creature would you want to watch and learn more about? Do you have any experience with wetlands and the inhabitants? Why are wetlands important? What are some things that harm wetlands and the inhabitants?
Project Description
WETLANDS: FILTERS, SPONGES, & MAGNETS FOR BIODIVERSITY
Observe the wetlands ecosystem and wildlife on the Coyote Hills fieldtrip. Choose a wetlands creature you would like to research and learn about. Brainstorm with the class on why wetlands are important. Brainstorm independently on questions you have about your creature. (Be
sure to include the creature’s common and scientific name, diet, habits, enemies, young, and physical characteristics).
Find some pictures, fun facts and information about your creature (online, books, magazines, park ranger interviews, etc.), and create a bubble map to organize your discovery.
Create a Microsoft PowerPoint of your discoveries (pictures and facts). You will have an opportunity to present your PowerPoint to your classmates. Paint a likeness of your creature on the class Wetlands Mural.
