EDUTECH 2017Transforming Teaching, Inspiring Learning:

Positioning technology and STEM as key drivers of attainment

Full day conference | May 25, 2017Technology & Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow

Across the day we will look at the key opportunities and challenges of digital and STEM learning in the classroom with contributions from national and international speakers at the forefront of innovation and practice.

Scotland is building an international reputation as a digital innovator and a global centre of excellence for new data-driven technologies. However, there is a gap between our abilities, our ambition and our education as the recent PISA (Programme for International Assessment) results show, pointing to a significant decline in maths and science attainment in Scottish schools. This conference will explore how educationalists can reverse this trend and equip children and young people with the confidence and skills to thrive in the digital and tech world.

The Scottish Government national strategy: ‘Enhancing Learning and Teaching Through the Use of Digital Technology’ lays out four key areas of focus over the next five years: to improve the skills and confidence of teachers using digital technology; widen access for all; placing digital technology more firmly at the heart of the curriculum and empowering leaders of change. Building on this, the forthcoming strategy on STEM Education and Training will focus on improving overall STEM skills, bridging the attainment gap in STEM and ensuring the future workforce has the specialist skills it needs to thrive.

This conference will provide practical support, inspiration and strategic discussion to enable education professionals to help children and young people fulfil their potential in a rapidly changing world, and maintain and grow Scotland’s global success.

TESTIMONIALS

EduTech was one of the best run conferences I have attended. The sessions started on time. The audience was directed to the correct venues. The speakers were well prepped for their presentation. The moderators

were well informed on what they must do. Everything was very well handled. Keep up the good work

Laurie Butgereit, Dr Math, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University

I did thoroughly enjoy the day – it was such a positive experience and I was very impressed by the organisation of the whole event. There’s been

quite a lot of social media following the event from delegates interested in what we are doing at Middleton Park – which has been lovely

Jenny Watson, Head Teacher, Middleton Park School

I received a very warm welcome from everyone I spoke to and had great conversations throughout the day. It was particularly interesting to see

that the challenges and opportunities in EduTech are universal. I hope the digital strategy will be a great catalyst, as it has been in Ireland

Janice Feighery, Programme Director - Education & Training, Camara Ireland
