Educational Projects to Tanzania

Charity Partner:

Travel Indigo works alongside Inspire Worldwide & Livingstone

Tanzania Trust to bring you this community development project.

Project Aims:

Children's Education and Community Development

Welcome to Tanzania:

The Livingstone Tanzania Trust (LTT) is a grassroots development charity that is alleviating poverty in rural

Tanzania through education at both the school and community level.

These communities are mostly made up of very poor subsistence farmers who have had little formal education

and the opportunities for their children are very limited.

The classrooms are hugely over-crowded with over 100 kids to 1 teacher. Classrooms are poorly equipped,

too small and there are not enough of them. The classrooms are often in a very poor state of repair, dark,

with leaking roofs and no windows or doors. Children are squashed into cramped conditions sharing many to

one desk.

Examples of projects:

Your Tanzania Expedition will help to renovate and improve existing classrooms at LTT's kindergarten,

primary and secondary schools. Working with the local community on small-scale income generation projects

such as construction of water tanks, school farms or animal projects such as fish-ponds, chicken or goat-

breeding.

You will also get involved with the local school children and can arrange after

school activities such as drama, arts and sports as well as running informal

English conversation classes with the local school children.

Extra Activities:

At the end of your expedition enjoy a great 2 day safari to Lake Manyara

and Tarangire National Park. Search for the big five and relax after all your

hard work and effort.

Kenyan Community Team Projects

Charity Partner:

Travel Indigo work alongside Inspire Worldwide & Excellent

Development to bring you this incredible community project in Kenya

helping to provide secure water sources for the community.

Project Aims:

Your expedition will aim to assist in the building of dams and other

water storage facilities to stockpile water throughout the year in case of

drought or sustained periods of dry weather. This project will directly

help towards the upkeep of water supplies for the community and

people of Kenya.

Further details:

1.8 million people a year in Africa die of something as simple as

diarrhoea - 90% of them are children below the age of 5. Over 42 %

of the population in sub-Saharan Africa has no access to safe water and children often have to walk between 2 and

10 kilometres every day to collect water and because of this 9 out of 10 children from poor households fail to

complete their basic education.

Water is often dug out of riverbeds and is brown and filthy. Sand dams help to provide a sustainable and year-round

supply of water.

Project Details:

The project is designed to help the local Akamba people in Kenya to improve their access to water by constructing

small-scale sand dams and terracing of land. Sand dams are simple concrete structures built across seasonal river beds.

They each can store up to 10 million litres of water year round, giving over 1,000 local villagers a continuous clean

water source.

Terracing land also helps prevent soil erosion and reduces water run-off. The simple, but labour intensive, process of

terracing farmland can significantly reduce this problem.

The team will help to terrace land and construct an entire sand-dam for one community. This project involves a lot of

physical labour – particularly cement mixing, but also provides participants with the opportunity to work very closely

with the local community.

Extra projects could include helping in the community-run tree nurseries or

tree planting at local schools.

Extra Activities:

To end your expedition to Kenya you will enjoy a 2 day safari to

Amboseli National Park to look for elephants, lion, giraffe and leopard

and hopefully get some great views of the world famous Kilimanjaro.

Ugandan Educational Project

Charity Partner:

Travel Indigo proudly work with Inspire Worldwide &

DEOMA to bring you this fantastic project to Uganda.

Project Aims:

The school expedition to Uganda is designed to enhance the

educational provision in the remote rural communities of

North West Uganda.

Further details:

DEOMA is dedicated to helping the communities and children of North-West Uganda, primarily focussing on the small

and friendly community of Bweyale. DEOMA aims to provide opportunities for education and training to

disadvantaged African children and families from marginalised communities. Helping them improve their chances for a

better life. They believe that education is a powerful tool that is able to break the cycle of poverty.

The communities of North West Uganda were for a long time affected by a civil war which had a profound effect on

the communities and affected many educational services on offer.

Examples of projects:

Land has recently been acquired to build a secondary school for the community of Bweyale. This is desperately

needed, as the children currently have to walk over 10kms to the nearest secondary school. The project will primarily

focus on the pressing need to build the classrooms, staff houses, kitchens, latrines and water tanks that are so urgently

needed to get the school up and running.

Extra Activities:

To conclude your expedition to Uganda you will undertake a 2 day safari

to the world famous Murchison Falls National park, where you will go on

safari for lions, leopards and elephants and take a boat cruise right up to

the Falls themselves.

The perfect way to reflect on an expedition which will have a lasting

impact upon the communities of Uganda- long after you have returned

home.

Orphanage Expedition to Malawi

Travel Indigo work alongside Inspire Worldwide and The Joshua

Orphan Care Trust to bring you an expedition to Malawi.

Expedition Aims:

This expedition to Malawi looks to support orphaned children and

vulnerable people within the community and further assist with

community development.

Further Details:

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. According to the latest World Bank figures, it has a life expectancy

of 38.8 years and nearly 20% of children die before their fifth birthday.

The expedition aims to help provide a safe and secure living environment for orphans, vulnerable children and their

families; to ensure good basic education and health care; and to help facilitate the provision of clean, fresh water

supplies wherever possible.

On this expedition you will be responsible for completing a variety of projects that will make a real difference to the

children and communities of Malawi, providing them with the chance to improve their access to basic healthcare

facilities and in doing so to give them the opportunity to succeed in life.

Examples of Recent Projects:

Recently a number of expeditions to Malawi have led to the completion a water tank to provide clean water, building

a kitchen where the orphaned children can receive food, renovating one of the feeding centres, or working with the

local Youth Group to help to fix the homes of elderly residents.

Extra Activities:

At the end of the expedition you will enjoy a great 2 day safari to

Liwonde National Park, where the group will do game drives and take a

sunset boat cruise along the Shire River. A great way to rest after your

expedition and reflect on the positive impact upon the community you

have made.

Accommodation:

You will be staying in the heart of the community in basic but comfortable

accommodation – i.e. no running water or electricity. The accommodation

would consist of mattresses/beds in a simple local rented house or un-

used classroom – with a local cook and guards to look after the team.

SWAZILAND

Travel Indigo is proud to be partnered with Inspire Worldwide and

Shewula Community Group, to bring you this exciting educational

and cultural based community project to enhance the knowledge and

lives of the people of Swaziland. It focuses on HIV/AIDS awareness

projects and poaching education courses.

Expedition Details:

Shewula is a small community-run organisation, based in the north-

east of Swaziland which supports community-driven sustainable

development projects to assist HIV/AIDS orphans, vulnerable children and their families in the Shewula community,

northern Swaziland.

Swaziland has Africa's highest rate of HIV, currently at 38% of the population and an average life expectancy is just

46. 63% of Swazis live on less than $1 per day and there are an estimated 80,000 HIV orphans in Swaziland, with

15% of households being run by children.

Poaching is also a major issue and the protection of the wildlife and game parks in Swaziland is increasingly

threatened by both 'for the pot' and commercial poachers.

Example Project:

Help renovate a library, expand the community's environmental education centre or set-up and run HIV/AIDS

awareness and environmental education sessions – including taking the children to visit one of the nearby game

reserves to run a 'Children's Day Bush Camp'.

Currently the children and wider community have extremely limited access to educational or fun textbooks and games.

Libraries provide a focal point and 'resource centre' for the community to help learn and improve their knowledge and

skills for free.

Running environmental education days helps the local children to learn more about the importance of the native

wildlife, so they can grow up wanting to protect it, rather than poach – most of the children in the community have

never even seen a rhino or giraffe even though they live in villages neighbouring the National Parks!

Extra Activities:

The expeditions would include seeing some traditional Swazi dancing in the local community, a 1 day safari to Hlane

Royal National Park to see elephants, rhino and lion and a half-day of horse-riding through one of Swaziland's

National Parks. A great way to relax and reflect

Accommodation:

You will be staying in the community in slightly more comfortable accommodation as Shewula run their own community

camp. Mountain Camp has running water and intermittent solar electricity. The accommodation would consist of bunk-

beds in small rondavels (traditional African huts). The team would cook for themselves over the gas stoves at the camp.

A local guard is also provided.

When you make a booking, the person to

whom the confirmation is sent is the "Lead

Name" and he/she must have the authority to

accept, and does accept these booking

conditions, on behalf of the party.

Confirmations of reservations made directly by

consumers are conditional upon acceptance of

the following Booking Terms and Conditions

and, additionally any specific terms and

conditions relating to the accommodation or

service selected.

The following terms and conditions apply to all

bookings made via www.travelindigo.co.uk, via

call centres manned by Travel Indigo Ltd

appointed staff and to sales made in person

by staff representing Travel Indigo Ltd and

apply to all members of your party. The

person making the booking must be 18 years

of age or over and in the event that all

members of the party travelling are under 18

it is necessary to seek prior acceptance of the

booking from the accommodation involved.

Travel Indigo Ltd acts as a selling agent on

behalf of the hotel, apartment and villa

properties displayed on this website. When

you make a reservation your contract will be

made with the accommodation or service

provider concerned. Travel Indigo Limited

cannot be held responsible for travel

arrangements made by the customer via

another company, or for any costs arising from

the same.

TTA Protection of all monies paid

All payments made to a TTA Member should

be made payable to the specially designated

Trust Account i.e. when paying Travel Indigo

Ltd, make all payments to Travel Indigo Ltd's

Trust Account. Credit card payments are

automatically deposited into the Trust Account

via electronic processing. Every TTA member

will have a practicing certificate. This

certificate will identify the TTA members

number, the company to whom all payments

should be made and the Trustee for that

member including the Trustees address. With a

TTA member a Trust operation is in place and

all your money is protected through a unique

travel protection scheme which includes monies

held in trust plus the Travel Trust Association

Safe Seat Guarantee (Where applicable).

The travel protection plan covers every service

which you have booked from Travel Indigo

LTD, whether it is for transport,

accommodation, entertainment or recreation. It

involves two aspects firstly the Trust Account

operated for your benefit, the money may only

be released from the Trust to pay for the

services which you have booked. Secondly

there is further protection from insurance cover

provided by the safe seat plan, if your money

is not in the trust account, It will reimburse the

loss of any amount to the Travel Agent for your

booking up to a maximum any one passenger

of £11000. So if you paid £2000 the policy

will reimburse the loss of the £2000 where it is

available for you from The Trust Account.

Therefore the Trust Account plus the safe seat

plan insurance coverage ensure that all the

money which you have paid is safely protected

and available to pay for those services which

you have booked.

Balance Payment

At the time of booking, your flight or package

holiday is subject to a deposit of £100.00 per

person (where the deposit scheme is permitted

by the airline / accommodation provider). For

all bookings which are made within the 10

weeks prior to departure schedule, full

payment is required in clear funds. For all

bookings which have paid a deposit, full or

part balance is able to be paid via our call

centre staff (0208 123 1216) or via the "My

Booking" section on www.travelindigo.co.uk.

The balance payment due to us in respect of

any booking as shown on a confirmation

invoice must be paid at least 10 weeks prior to

the departure date. If the payment is not

received in full by us by the given date on the

confirmation invoice, we reserve the right to

treat your booking as cancelled by you and

retain your deposit and apply the cancellation

charges as set out later on this page.

Changes made by the customer

If you wish to alter your arrangements after

your booking has been made, we will do our

best to arrange this and, if possible, make

these changes. Any request for changes must

be made in writing by the person who made

the booking. We will charge an amendment

fee of £40.00 per person, and any other cost

we incur in making the alteration. Scheduled

airlines normally treat name changes as a

cancellation and rebooking and this may incur

a 100% cancellation charge in respect of the

airfare. If after the commencement of a tour

the Client requests any amendments to the

agreed arrangements, or accommodation, the

Company and/or its agents will do their best

to implement such amendments, but cannot

guarantee that it will be possible. In the event

of any amendment the Client will be liable for

any cancellation charges and / or additional

costs that may be incurred by the Company

and/or its agents.

Cancellations made by the customer

Air Ticket Refund

Airline tickets are paid for in full at the time of

booking and in case of cancellation, unless

otherwise stated, they are non refundable, non

changeable and non re-routable. In respect of

any alteration to an APEX ticket or certain

other special fare tickets, some suppliers

(particularly airlines) may treat a name change

as a cancellation and as such will not refund

any monies. Where an outbound portion of

your flight coupon is not used the return sector

will be automatically cancelled by the airline

and no automatic right to a refund exists for

such part-used tickets. All other partly used

tickets are normally non-refundable and

cancellations made within 24 hours of

departure are non-refundable.

Other Individual Components

For all other Individual Components, unless

your confirmation invoice specifies different

cancellation charges, the charges below shall

apply:

More than 70 days Deposit only

42-69 Days 60 % + Additional charges levied

by the ATOL flight provider

Changes made by Travel Indigo LTD

It is unlikely that we will have to make any

changes to your travel arrangements but we

reserve the right to do so at any time. We plan

arrangements a long time in advance of your

holiday using independent suppliers such as

airlines and hotels, over whom we have no

direct control. Most of these changes are minor

and we will advise you or your travel agent as

soon as we are able. If we make a major

change we will also endeavour to advise you

or your travel agent as soon as reasonably

possible.

A major change includes a change of

accommodation to that of a lower category

and/or price, a change of flight time of more

than 12 hours, a change of UK departure

airport, (other than London airports) or a

significant change of resort area.

In accordance with EU regulations we are

required to advise you of the actual air carrier

operating your flight/connecting

flight/transfer. We do this by listing carriers to

be used or likely to be used on the relevant

brochure pages and/or your holiday

confirmation invoice. Any changes to the actual

airline after you have received your tickets will

be notified to you as soon as possible and in

all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate.

Such a change is deemed to be a minor

change.
