The purpose of this six week summer project for RET teachers is to provide them with an understanding of the civil engineering profession which includes the field of hydrology. This goal was accomplished by class participation in a Hydrology course and involvement in a Fluids lab class. RET teachers also became familiar with the water cycle and how flooding is created as well as controlled during this continuous cycle.

Educational GoalsStudents will learn about the water cycle and how this can create flooding situations. They will also learn how the use of hydrology techniques can control most cases of flooding and the damage caused.
Final Outcomes _ Extra CreditStudents will learn about the Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network (also Known as CoCoRAHS) and how the Rain gauge to the left is used to track rainfall. As an extra credit assignment the students will be given a chance to use the rain gauge and collect rainfall data.
Approach and Methods***Students will become familiarwith new vocabulary***1. Hydrology 2. Water Cycle3. Precipitation4. Evaporation 5. Infiltration 6. Transpiration
