Music TrackingHighlightsdisplayonscreenasthemusicplaystoguidethestudentinreadingthenotation.Thisfeaturecanbedisabledusingthe“MusicTracking”itemundertheOptionsmenu.The first time the student arrives at a screen with music notation (or if the Metronome tool is launched first), a Synchronization window is presented for calibration of sound and visual synchronization. To find thisagain,openthePreferenceswindow(GuitarMethodmenuonMac,HelpmenuonWindows)andclicktheSynchronizationbutton.

Animated Fretboard Shows students where to put their fingers as the music plays. Students can double-click on a specific note or chord and the AnimatedFretboardwillshowwherethisnoteorchordislocatedonthefretboard.StudentscanmovetheAnimatedFretboardtoanylocationbyclickinganddraggingthetopbar,anditcanberesizedbyclickinganddraggingthelowerrightcornerofthewindow. Students can flip the Animated Fretboard from left-to-right or upside-downincasetheyareleft-handedorpreferamirrorview. The Animated Fretboard also features custom fingerboard skins so studentscanplaytheirfavoriteguitarwhileworkingthroughthelessons.

Song Highlighting and LoopingAllows students to select specific sections of music for repeated playbackandtoloopchallengingpartsofanyexercise.Studentscanrepeatanddrillproblemspotsoverandover.Loopingshouldbeutilizedasmuchaspossible.AdditionaldetailscanbefoundonAppendixscreenA5.

MIDI Tempo SliderAllowsstudentstoslowdownorspeedupanyexercisetomatchtheirskilllevel.Thosewhoarenotchallengedmaywishtoincreasethetempo.

Suggested Learning Strategy for Students

Themanyinteractivefeaturescanbecombinedtoenhancelearning.Hereisahelpfulstrategyyoucanpresenttoyourstudents.Itisassumedthatthestudentsareusingheadphonesandhaveamicrophoneordirectconnectionbetweentheirguitarandcomputer.

Directions for students:Absorbthelessonmaterialonscreen.Readthetext,watchanyvideos,andlistentoanyaudiocoments.

Clicktheaudiobuttontoheartheexerciseorsonginitsentiretybeforeplayinganything.Keepyoureyesonthemusicnotation.

Playtheaudioagain,andthistimewatchtheAnimatedFretboard,takingnoteof the suggested fingering.

Check your fingering. Turn on Instant Feedback (the ear icon button). Double-clickachordnameinthenotationtobringuptheAnimatedFretboardshowingthe fingering. Place your fingers to match and strum. The name will light up green to confirm you played it correctly. You can check all the chords in the songorexercisethiswaybeforeyoustartplayingthesong.

Whenyouarereadytoplayalongwiththeaudio,clicktheaudiobuttonwithInstantFeedbackengaged.ThisbeginsPerformanceEvaluation.Playalongwith the song you hear in your headphones. When the song is finished, Guitar Methodwillshowyouhowyoudidandpresentascore.YoucanrepeatthisstepasoftenasyoulikeandGuitar Methodwillretainyourbestscore.YoucanusethiswiththestandardaudioorwiththeJamTrack.Italsoworkswiththevariable-speedMIDItrackssoyoucanslowitdownasneeded.
