i Editorial Dear Readers We are very happy to announce that World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery is available now as an official publication of World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons. This issue is launched on time as we have decided during our first international conference on recent advances in minimal access surgery. This journal is peer-reviewed international journal completely devoted to the Minimal Access Surgery. It is dedicated to publishing worthy scientific and clinical articles and informing issues significant to the surgical profession. Our goal is to create a new forum for exchange of information on all aspects of Minimal Access Surgery. Future scope of the World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery is open to your suggestions. I would like to encourage you to submit original research, review article, case report as well as opinions, technical reports, and short communications in all area of Minimal Access Surgery. The World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery now appears in a combined print/online format. The journal is available online at www.worldjls.org. This initiative will make our publication much more interactive for readers. Through this site, you can now read abstracts, selected full-text articles and editorials, as well as contact us with your comments, suggestions and queries online. In addition, WALS members can request literature searches from our resource centre. We also provide hot links to other prestige endoscopic journals. If you are thinking of writing an article for the World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery, you can fine tune your writing skills by consulting our “Information for Authors” section. In time, we hope to host discussion groups at this website. We are going to keep you informed on all oncoming events organized by the WALS through this journal. We will give you inside stories on the development strategies and directions of our organization, as well as introduce our new members to you. The business of laparoscopic publication is changing rapidly. Practitioners receive a glut of printed material every day, and the World Wide Web has quickened the exchange of information immeasurably. There are some who claim that the traditional hard copy of journal has no future. I beg to differ. There has never been a greater need for sound leadership in publishing minimal access surgery, and we at the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeon intend to continue to provide sound scientific and clinical information, based on the best available evidence. It is my hope that each of the articles in this issue of the journal will be useful for the entire health professional involved in minimal access surgery. I wish to see World Journal of Laparoscopic Surgery develop into a world class scientific journal with the balance changing toward research communication rather than remain a bulletin. The success of this journal depends on your response. I would appreciate your feedback. I may be reached via E-mail at [email protected] or by regular mail at: Laparoscopy Hospital, 8/10 Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, 110 018. India. Sincerely, RK Mishra Editor-in-Chief
