Welcome everyone to Newsletter No. 85.

Well here we are heading towards the end of 2014, as usual we have had some very busy months behind us with club events.

Thanks go to Neil Wilson our event co-ordinator. This is a mammoth job, putting together runs for our members enjoyment.

Bathurst 1000 what a finish.

Trafalgar Holden Museum, if by some chance you haven’t been, you are missing a fantastic experience, a credit to all that are involved in this venture.

Piston Steel Shakedown at Masters Knoxfield, this charity event was massive.

Marsh Rodders Show & Shine, this event is getting bigger each year.

Watsonia Car & Bike Show, the shopping centre traders sure know how to attract people to this event, shade was the saver for the day, personalized buskers to one of our members and lots of shopping bargains for others.

Cruden Farm was a great day out, we may have added a mystery run for a few of us, as signage was a bit late in going out , but we got there.

The Strawberry Festival was a sweet run, a lot of strawberry flavour to this day.

The MFB Charity Car Show at Burnley St. Richmond, why not ask the members that were there on the day.

And our XMAS BREAKUP PARTY, wow thank you Peter & Irene Bernardi sometimes Thank You is just not enough.

Look for the run sheet, and mark those runs on the calendar for next year, if you have any ideas let Neil know as he is always on the lookout for member interests. Keep a watch on your mobile phone for Neils texts or on the computer for emails. (That’s if you have forwarded the details to Neil)

A big Thank You to the committee the time you give to the club activities is very much appreciated by all the members. If by some chance you have overlooked paying your membership Jeff Comport ( Our Treasurer ) is always available to fix this area up.

Red Plate holders, there is never a holiday from filling in your log books.

With the Christmas list to be filled, don’t forget our Sponsors. One of them may have a solution.

I would like to wish you all A Merry Christmas & Safe New Year.

Will catch up with as many as possible Next Year on our first run in 2015

Thanks to everyone who has sent run reports and photos of recent events. This publication is presented using a different font. It is a trial on my part to see what members think in regards to readability and overall better presentation. Please let me know your thoughts, in favour or against. I recently attended a forum hosted by the AOMC and provided information to Editors of Club Newsletters. It covered all aspects of printing, cost, worthiness and legalities associated with producing a newsletter. Perhaps the most interesting aspect related to copyright and how it impacts on what we produce and print. It is important for members to know that copyright applies to just about everything and anything that this newsletter produces. It applies for the life of the author of the article or photo plus 70 years. So even if the author of an article is deceased, copyright will more than likely apply. Every photo and article written and produced by members is subject to copyright but is done so knowingly that it will be reproduced in some form or another when submitted to this publication. As Editor it is incumbent on me to consider such matters prior to their reproduction or publication, particularly in relation to articles to from the internet, electronic media and publications. Certain articles or items therefore may not be reproduced as a consequence. Thanks for your understanding. By the way I am still in the market for a HX- HZ vehicle either a wagon or possibly a ute. Please keep me in mind if you see something. Andrew Maclean Newsletter Editor

On Sunday 5th October Lardner Park played host to the 10th Cora Lynn Country Car Show & Swap Meet “Last of the Chrome Bumpers” this show features Cars, Bikes, Trucks, Caravans, Steam Traction Engines and Tractors.

Cars began streaming into the grounds as soon as the gates opened. Early birds took advantage of the swap meet that was already setup. You have to be early to get the best bargains.

By 11 o’clock cars were parked in rows in grassed areas, the variety of vehicles was a sight to see. Plenty of food and drink areas, Trade Stalls and children’s entertainment gave this show a picnic atmosphere.

First prize in the raffle was a Reproduction Petrol Bowser 10th Anniversary Special it was amazing.

A small group of club members enjoyed this car show event.

I became a member of the 60-80 Holden Enthusiasts Club in 1999, after finishing a rebuild on a 1968 HK Premier. This car was left to us, when my partner Trevor Weir passed away at the age of 24 and when our daughter was only 8 weeks old. After the car had been sitting in my garage, I finally got the courage to pull it out and start finishing Trevor’s project. So began an 18 month project, along with my Dad, who is a mechanic. He and Trevor had previously spoken about Trevor’s idea’s for the Prem. With my Dad’s knowledge and skill and the help from my Cousin, David Weaver who re-sprayed the car in its original colour, in his garage at home, the rebuild started. My Dad did all the mechanical on the car no one else was allowed to touch it! When it arrived at the work shop I must admit, it looked a mess. Covered in dust with the GTS panels still in under coat, however despite the other mechanics laughing at its appearance on the tow truck, they placed it up on the hoist, and were surprised with the work Trevor had done so far. It is something I will never forget, their jaws dropped to the ground. Trevor was not a mechanic - he just had a passion for cars in general and loved pulling things apart and putting them back together. I was always a Ford girl, being brought up with GT’s and Ford V8’s of some sort. My parents love their cars and motor bikes and were hoons! To my Dad’s disgust, I became a Holden girl, thanks to Trevor converting me. I would be working on or around cars with my Dad even on my own cars and was also working at his garage for a number of years. About the car: in 1992 it was purchased from an elderly lady and it was a standard 6 cylinder, 3 speed on the tree and the interior was in very good condition. Trevor then spent all his spare time rebuilding the car. Taking apart a Brougham and putting the running gear from the Brougham into the Prem. Currently it has a 307 Chev engine, dual fuel, two speed powerglide, Banjo Diff, Holley 650 Carby, twin exhaust, vented disc brakes on the front and drums on the rear, Simmons wheels 15’ and Pirelli tyres all round, interior relatively standard, with just a few modifications, rail kit through the chassis. Most of the engine was sitting in our wardrobe at home, pistons, edelbrock manifold, the carby etc. I laugh about it now. Most of the engine was brand new, except the engine block. It was my daily driver for about 12 months, now it comes out from under the covers for car club events when I get the time. My photo albums are full of awesome runs we have done, and I think the 60-80 Holden Enthusiasts Club is a pleasure to be part of, I have some fantastic memories with more to come. I love driving it and I just wish I could get it out more often. This year it is 20 years since Trevor passed away, he will never be forgotten and the Prem is a reminder of a young man’s dream. Thank you……………..see you on the road, Bernie Drummond

A total of four club vehicles attended the Watsonia show, two meeting at Sam’s Warehouse and driving up in convoy and two arriving independently. By 9.30 our display was organised and, due to the hot day ahead, a shady patch under some trees opposite our cars was soon set up as a base of club operations (more of a camp really).

The show had some great vehicles in attendance, mainly Australian and American, with a smattering of European and Japanese classics too. The displays were located in the various car parks and closed off streets in Watsonia’s shopping hub. Live music was supplied during the show by a local band which added a suitable atmosphere to the day.

Although the club didn’t win any prizes or awards on this occasion, there was plenty of interest in the club display and membership stand, which was good to see.

Cheers,

Simon Skevington

We headed off from stud park at about 8am to go to M F B Car and Bike show at the M F B training facility in Burnley st Richmond some meet at the entrance then we all parked together in the naughty corner, as there was only 5 cars of ours we did not make much of an impact on the other cars. There was so much to look at and it was quite warm in the sun -our summer hats got a work out, the band supplied great music ,the kids were entertained in the jumping castle and using the fire hoses from the fire truck on a variety of targets . There were plenty of raffle prizes on offer I only won one this year! This was a great a fundraiser for SANDS the icing on the cake was Robbie winning 1st place for Best Muscle Car for his HQ G T S Monaro Well done, thanks to all who attended and look forward to some great runs next year 2015 ,to our new members these runs are great to get to know your fellow members and enjoy our hospitality and show off your pride and joy. The latest attraction for Holden fans opened in West Gippsland on the weekend of 18-19 October, when the doors to the long awaited Trafalgar Holden Museum were opened. The brainchild of Museum President, Neil Joiner, the museum has been a 18 month project by a small committee of passionate people keen to preserve the history of the Holden brand. Designed to tell the complete story of the Holden name, from the latter 1800's and the Holden & Frost saddlery business in Adelaide right through the war years through to the present day. The Saturday saw the doors open early than expected as a huge display of classic Holdens formed in the car park outside the Museum. Car club members from NSW, the ACT and Melbourne converged on the Waterloo Road site eager to see the Museum for the first time.

This old building had been the former Dairy factory for the region and has been restored to its former glory by the team of volunteers. Saturday saw 1100 people through the door, with 800 on Sunday. One of the highlight exhibits for the opening weekend was Efijy, on loan from Holden and a highlight for many. The Museum is in 2 parts. Firstly the car collection from the 48-215 through to the HZ Kingswood. Secondly the Museum of Holden exhibits made prior to the Australian built cars. This includes Holden bodied cars; a Buick, Oldsmobile and 1924 Chevrolet. This room had the most interest for many as the early saddlery and manufacturing prowess of Holden was on display. Aircraft engines, motorcycle sidecar, Polsten gun, army trailers, pantograph, golf clubs, pedal cars and the kitchen... compete with Holden made stoves, ovens and fridges. The Bendigo Bank Theatrette, playing early Holden films and commercials was a great hit... and a great place to rest the legs. The engine room, showing a range of cutaway motors and suspensions through to the Ute room, showing examples of old and new Ute technology. The local Rotary Club provided sausages to feed the crowd while Trafalgar Holden Museum branded caps, stubby holders and mugs were being bought as souvenirs. The 8 person committee had an exhausting weekend but were thrilled by the turnout and the encouragement from well wishers who visited the Museum. At times the car park was full with early model Holden's (from clubs like the 60-80 Holden Club) and people who had followed our progress on Facebook. The Cafe was also a big hit, time for everyone to catch up over a coffee.

The Museum promises rotating exhibitions, with a main core of cars but additional specialist exhibits. Since the opening a HK GTS Monaro and a HR Hearse have been added and the FC RACV breakdown van replaced by Holden Gemini Breakdown station wagon. The Museum is open every Saturday & Sunday from 10am-5pm. Entry is just $5 per person.

A traffic cop flagged down a motorist and said, 'I'm arresting you for going through three red lights.' 'Yeah, well, I'm colour blind,' said the motorist. 'In addition to that, you were exceeding the speed limit,' said the policeman. 'So what?' said the motorist. 'And on top of all that you were going the wrong way down a one-way street,' added the officer. 'I always did have a lousy sense of direction,' said the motorist with a smile. At that point, his wife leaned forward from the back seat and said, 'Don't pay any attention to him, officer. He always talks like this when he's had a few drinks.'
