Edition 8 November 2019CCP Salon
Philippa Burton, Untitled (man with ice-cream), 2019
Welcome to Melbourne Milieu, an exploration of the places and spaces that link our city’s people, character and culture. The eighth edition showcases works from the 2019 ILFORD CCP Salon, as selected by the team at the Centre for Contemporary Photography. In contrast to the ever-present digital deluge, where images vie for our attention only to swiftly disappear, CCP Salon is a celebration of print, its enduring presence, and the breadth of conversation that the medium elicits. Increasingly, when it comes to viewing photography we click, we glance—and with the swipe of our thumb it’s gone. But did we really see that image? Print compels you to see that image, and a gallery setting sparks real conversation —in the flesh. For us, the audience, printed work is a much-needed opportunity to slow down and explore the world from 506 different perspectives, and share (actually share) those moments that have moved the photographer.

A photograph is a meeting point, where the perspectives of the photographer, the photographed and the observer intersect. In this spirit, Salon warmly encourages the social act of visiting a gallery and engaging with images, in real time and real space, with friends, family and colleagues. It’ also a wonderful place to start collecting contemporary photography. We welcome you to enjoy this exhibition at CCP from 23 November to 13 December 2019.
