the dugoutDavid Freeman, Chairman

Welcome everyone to Redding Way, our supporters, players, club officials and a warm welcome to our visitors Sandhurst Town FC, their players, club officials and to the three match officials for this afternoons game.

Since my last programme notes we continue to make great strides on the pitch. Firstly and for the third time this season we created club history by progressing in the FA Vase with a 2-1 replay win over Dorking. Despite the narrow scoreline I felt we were always in control of the tie and it was only a late goal from our visitors that made the last few minutes more interesting. However, to be honest we could have extended our lead on a couple of occasions before the final whistle.

Nevertheless it's a great achievement by the management and the players and something myself and everyone connected with the club are very proud of. We welcome Sussex County League side East Preston to Redding Way in a fortnight's time so please show your support for the team and help cheer us on to hopefully another victory and more club history.

We returned to league action last weekend and ran out comfortable 5-0 winners against Cobham despite not being up to full strength but credit to the players that came in and they did not let themselves or the club down. The last few weeks our injury list has grown and County Cup win over Epsom Athletic on Tuesday night came at a cost with the skipper Jamie Doble picking up a nasty knee injury along with Charlie Postance and Ross Murray all not finishing the game. They are joined on the sidelines by Timmy Taylor (broken leg), Ian Messenger (broken toe) and Dan Thorogood (hamstring). Suspensions are also getting in the way with Coner Close and Scott Todd both missing today.

Well done to the lads who played Tuesday night especially those who held their nerve in the penalty shoot out. We host Chessington & Hook in the next round here at Redding Way.

Away from pitch affairs I will have news on our full alcohol license shortly so hopefully our new bar will running at full speed soon. Following the storm on Sunday night the fencing along the dug out side of the ground was blown over and now the area looks bare, hopefully this will be put up again in the next week or two.

Lastly thank you to our committee and our volunteers who give up their time each week to help make this great club run as professionally as possible.

Thank you for your support, enjoy the match and have a safe journey home.

David

Sandhurst, following relegation from the Premier Division last season, are currently mid-table in Division One having played 12 games and accumulated 18 points from five wins and three draws. One of their four defeats this season, came at Banstead last Saturday losing 5-0. The League table at the moment shows a closer margin now than at the same time last season, from eighth place up to the leaders, with a seven points difference, and which looks as if it could develop into an interesting number of Clubs anxious to stay in that top half of the table.

Looking back on our results and following a three match losing sequence a month ago, Knaphill pulled back to winning ways with a 2-1 home league win over Banstead three weeks ago, followed by the 2-2 draw after extra time in the FA Vase at Dorking, then winning the replay 2-1 three days later, on a night that saw an electrifying storm and torrential rain at Redding Way. But with goals from Jamie Doble and Josh Watkins it was a good night for the Club as the win propelled them into the 2nd round of the Vase and a home tie against Sussex County League side East Preston on Saturday 16th November. The Sussex side are currently in good form having won nine out of their last ten games, which points to what should be one of the best games of the 2nd round.

Four days after the Vase replay, and a bit more history for the Club, Knaphill reverted back to their League programme and a visit to basement club Cobham. A clean sheet and scoring five goals with a one each for Charlie Postance, Alex Lumley, Ross Murray, Matt Kellett-Smith, and Jonny Coates, kept Knaphill third in the table, and are just one point behind Spelthorne Sports(the only unbeaten team in the Division) and leaders Staines Lammas with a game in hand.

The team go into today’s game on 24 points with eight wins from 10 games.

On Tuesday this week, Epsom Athletic were the visitors to Redding Way for the 1st round of the Surrey Premier Cup. The match went into extra time and penalties and finished around 10.15pm! After 90 minutes the score was 0-0, and within five minutes of the first period of extra time two goals were scored. Knaphill took the lead through Josh Young, and a couple of minutes later the visitors equalised, but with neither side able to score again, Knaphill went on to triumph 4-3 on penalties, and progress into the 2nd round when they play hosts to Chessington & Hook Reserves.

Over the past couple of weeks, our Reserves were involved in a 3-3 draw at home to Hanworth Villa, and last Saturday a very young side played hosts to league leaders Tooting & Mitcham in the Central Division of the Suburban League. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, they couldn’t have expected Tooting’s surge of goals in the second half as the leaders ran out 7-1 winners. Staying with another game which had plenty of goals, Knaphill Ladies suffered another hammering defeat on Sunday in a County Cup match against Crystal Palace losing 9-2. The Youth side were away at Fleet Spurs on Monday night and secured a 4-2 win over the bottom club.

Coming up in the next couple of weeks, Knaphill make the trip to South Kilburn next Saturday 9th November, followed by the rearranged Southern Combination Cup 2nd round away to Cove on Tuesday 12th November. Then it’s back to the FA Vase on Saturday 16th November and the 2nd round tie here at Redding Way gainst East Preston kick off 3pm.

......NeWS PiTCh.....News PiTCh.....News PiTCh.....News PiTChGood afternoon everyone and welcome to our visitors today, Sandhurst Town, their players, officials and supporters for our first league fixture of November, with three months of the 2013/14 season now behind us. We also extend a welcome this afternoon to our three match officials, Referee Nick Clark and his two Assistants Garry Hodgkinson and Nicholas Metcalfe.

Our next home game is against Sandhurst on Saturday 3rd November.

Meanwhile, enjoy this afternoon’s game…………

FA Vase 1st Round Replay, Tuesday 22nd October Knaphill 2 - 1 Dorking (AET)

RePORTiNG bAckKnaphill progressed to the second round of The FA Carlsberg Vase after a 2-1 win replay win over Dorking at Redding Way on Tuesday night and at the same not for the first time this season created more club history.

Despite the narrow scoreline The Knappers should of been out of sight by half time with a number of chances wasted and a inspired performance from Dorking’s goalkeeper Ciaran McGuire. Matt Powell, Charlie Postance, Josh Watkins and Scott Todd were all guilty of missed chances however the breakthrough came when Josh Watkins clinical finish put the home side in front on 64 minutes and captain Jamie Doble added a second on 81 minutes.

Dorking pulled a goal back on 85 minutes with a fantastic 25 yard effort but there was still time for Knaphill to extend their lead however Tom Davies and man of the match Charlie Postance wasted their opportunities to make a more comfortable looking scoreline.

The Knappers will now host Sussex County League side East Preston on Saturday 16th November in the 2nd Round, kick off 3pm.

Sandhurst Football Club was formed in 1910 and played in the Reading & District League until 1979 apart from a short spell in the East Berkshire Football League. In 1979, the Club was elected into the Aldershot & District Football League.1984 saw the Club finish as runners-up from whence they became founder members of the Chiltonian Football League and a stepping-stone toward becoming a senior club. The best season in the Chiltonian Football League was in 1986-1987 when they finished in second place. In 1990 the Club applied for membership of the Combined Counties Football League and were granted senior status by the Berks & Bucks County Football Association. The first two seasons were disastrous finishing in bottom place on each occasion and only escaped relegation back to the Chiltonian Football League at the end of the second season due to the resignation of another member club. However, the form of the Club improved dramatically thereafter with manager Peter Browning bringing the Club the Aldershot Football Association Senior Invitation Challenge Cup in his first season followed by the Southern Combination Cup. Since then, the first team have managed to finish 5th in the premier division of the Combined Counties Football League, and in season 2006/2007 were winners of the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy. The first ground used by the Club was a field adjacent to the Bull & Butcher public house that may well have been used as the club headquarters. After a few years, a move was made to the Memorial Park where the Club remained until the 1996 close season, apart from a couple of seasons during the 1950’s spent on a nearby pitch in St. John’s Road. The introduction of the National Lottery prompted an immediate bid for

funding for a new ground in Bottom Meadow adjacent to the Memorial Park. With support and backing through additional matched funding from Bracknell Forest Borough Council and Sandhurst Town Council, the Club were successful in the first round of allocations by the National Lotteries Charities Board. The new facilities opened in August 1997 at a cost of £265,000.The club celebrated it’s Centenary season in 2010/11 winning the league cup final and getting through to two other semi-finals as well as finishing 7th in the Combined Counties League Premier Division our best league position for many years. For season 2012/13 club will run five teams, two youth U18 teams and a new ladies team providing an exit route for junior players into senior football in the Sandhurst and Bracknell Forest area. A new partnership agreement with Reading F.C. and the Reading Hampshire Development Centre provides the expertise to improve our coaching and the opportunity for U18 players to play in the FA Junior Premier League Over the last three seasons the club has returned to financial health with significant investment in our facilities, a strong pro-active and motivated management team on and off the field with one of the best playing surfaces and clubhouse facilities in the area.

Knaphill FC would like to extend a warm welcome to Sandhurst Town, their Management and Fans - Welcome to Redding Way.

Nick’s Notes from the Southern Youth League..........

yOuNG guNsWith the mighty storm of St Jude raging in the previous 24 hours, on-one would have been surprised if Monday night’s SYL game at Fleet Spurs’ Kennel Lane ground had been called off. As it happens a combination of good drainage and missing most of the heavy showers that we sweeping the area meant that both side took to the pitch knowing that whoever lost would be bottom of the table. Knaphill lying 7th had only picked up the 3 points earned at Cove, in 8th, and Fleet had yet to register any points at all for their two games played.

The game started with Fleet scoring as many goals in the first 7 minutes as they had managed in the previous 180. The first in the 3rd minute saw a high, floating cross drift in at the far post and things didn’t get better 4 minutes later as Knaphill keeper Tom Baines came flying off his line only for the Fleet forward bypass the onrushing keeper and fired into an empty net. This early setback stung Knaphill into action and just 50 seconds later Nahuel Franchino ran across the box before firing in a fierce drive to pull one goal back. Nahuel scored an identical goal on the 38th minute to end the half all square as The Knappers started to take control of the game.

Knaphill came out for the second half with a much more positive attitude and this was rewarded in the 51st minute as a Fleet goal-kick was returned into the box where Nico Aquino’s shot rebounded to Luca Scanella who shot past the ‘keeper to score Knaphill’s third. Just after the hour Fleet found themselves down to 10 men as a defender limped off after clashing with Nahuel in the Fleet penalty box, and almost immediately their keeper slipped taking a goal-kick and needed attention before he was able to resume his place. In the 68th minute a long ball was flicked on by a Fleet defender to Nico who beat the keeper and slotted into an empty net for 4-2 score-line. Despite increasing Knaphill pressure, Fleet kept their composure and stifled the remaining Knaphill attacks whilst also providing enough of a threat

that Knaphill couldn’t relax too much.

The Knaphill performance was competent if not brilliant, this young side still have a long way to go, but after 9 matches so far this season, performances have been generally of a high quality, even if the results have not always reflected the skill and effort displayed by the Young Knappers.

On a positive note, Nico and Nahuel are now joint top scorers in the West Division with 6 goals each. The Young Knappers face a stern test as 2nd placed Hartley Wintney visit Redding Way on Tuesday 5th November, KO 7.30pm.

desert iSLaND DiSCS iN reserveGood Afternoon Everyone,

On Saturday 19th October we played Hanworth Villa at home with the following squad:- Smyrk, Davis, Sales, Mason, Power, Ruggles, Coates, Edwards, Dennison, Murray, Franchino. Subs:- Littlemore, Scanella. This is a game we should have won and not for the first time our defending at times was terrible. There were two huge plus points and they were youth players Franchino and Littlemore. Franchino scored twice and Murray once from the spot. The game finished 3 all.

On Saturday 26th October we played again at home to Tooting & Mitcham Utd with the following squad:- Smyrk, Litchfield, Hutchinson, O. Hudson, Kwenda, Littlemore, Wilson, Young, Power, Franchino, Clark. Subs:- T.Hudson, Fairhall. With the club struggling for senior players as 18 were missing for one reason or another, I had to utilise Gary Taylor’s youth team, 7 came into the squad for this game. For an hour we competed with a very strong Tooting side and were losing only 1 nil. Then our young legs faded and we lost the game 7-1, but I’m very proud of those young players who all stepped up and performed. That’s what the whole club needs more of.....character.

Good luck to Ruggs and the 1st team today.

Combined Counties League Division 1 Cobham 0 - 5 Knaphill

RePORTiNG bAckKnaphill hit five past strugglers Cobham at The Leg of Mutton on Saturday as they cemented their position in the top three.

With a number of key players missing, manager Phil Ruggles was forced to reshuffle his pack but despite an early scare which saw Knappers keeper Lee Allen pull off a point blank save it was Charlie Postance who reacted quickest following a Jonny Coates corner with Postance putting Knaphill in front on 29 minutes.

On 35 minutes Alex Lumley finished off a great move involving Matt Powell, Charlie Postance and Josh Watkins.

Despite a comfortable half time lead Knaphill failed to convert their chances early in the second half which also saw defender Ben Acton dismissed for a second bookable however, three goals in five minutes from substitute Ross Murray on 85 minutes, man of the match Matt Kellit-Smith on 88 minutes and a 25 yard free kick from Jonny Coates on 90 minutes sealed a comfortable win for Knaphill.

Knaphill: L Allen, M Kellett-Smith, J Coates, B Acton, J Doble, P Ruggles, A Lumley (R Murray), E Udaw, J Watkins, C Postance (T Davis), M Powell.

Goals: C Postance (29mins), A Lumley (35mins), R Murray (81mins), M Kellett-Smith(84mins), Jonny Coates (88mins)
