ALL parents and visitors
to the school during
school hours (8.50am to
3.00pm) need to sign in
via the office first.
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Yesterday I had the honour of marching in the Caboolture Anzac Day March with our
school. Thank you to all those children, parents and staff members who represented our
school in such an honourable way. There were many comments from the crowd about us
– being the new school, how great our kids look in their beautiful uniforms, and I felt
proud to be the Principal of our wonderful school.
Our own Anzac service was held last Friday and it was a very moving service. Our students
joined in beautifully, our school leaders handled their speeches expertly, and our guests
gave the students an insight into what Anzac Day means to them. Thank you to all those
community members who came along and were part of our service.
All these special events are firsts for our new school, and it has been wonderful to be part
of setting the traditions and history. Thank you for supporting us and sharing this with us.
Until next fortnight,
Deb Lorraway
It has come to my attention that parents/caregivers are
smoking in our car parks. This applies before, during and
after school hours as well as over weekends and school
holidays.
Smoking any
tobacco
products or
using an
electronic
cigarette within
five metres of
any state or
private school
grounds has
been banned.
On the spot
fines can be
issued by
environmental
health officers,
police or other
officers
authorised by
the local government to anyone found in breach of this
legislation. The ban does not extend to businesses or
residences that share a property boundary with a school.
Smokers are asked to put out your cigarette and dispose of
the litter thoughtfully well before you reach the school
boundary.
www.health.qld.gov.au/public-
health/topics/atod/tobacco-laws/schools/default.asp
Five metre buffer zone - the buffer zone is a no-
smoking area around the perimeter of schools and
early childhood education and care facilities. The
buffer zone extends for 5 metres beyond the facility
land boundary. The buffer includes all structures in
this area, such as bus shelters and car parks. This
area does not extend into residential or business
premises that share a boundary with school land.
Student Dress Code
Our Student Dress Code sets out very clearly the
expectations around our school uniform. We did have
a rocky start getting our uniforms in stock but I am
pleased to say that we now have stock (hats as well)
and it is expected that parents comply with dressing
their children in the correct uniform. Navy blue socks
are part of our school uniform and are available for
sale in our uniform shop (3 pairs for $12). Shoes
should be black only.
Students will start receiving a uniform demerit slip if
their uniform does not comply. This will, at first, be
a reminder for parents to ensure their children are
conforming to the dress code. After the third
reminder, students themselves will start to lose a
demerit point which will result in them not being
eligible for the Spirit of Bellmere term awards. If
there is any reason why parents are unable to conform
to our school dress code, please contact the Principal.
Due to our hats not being available until recently, we
have had a number of children not wearing hats or
wearing different hats. As the hats have now been in
stock for a number of weeks, we will be cracking
down on students not wearing the proper hats.
Students seem to think that if they are playing in the
shade they do not have to wear their hat. We have
one rule for all students – No hat, No play. It doesn’t
matter where they are playing – all students are
required to wear a hat during lunch recess. This gets
students into a routine and sets an expectation that
hats must be worn when out of the classroom.
School Uniforms
As has been advertised during Term 1, the normal school
uniform has had a small increase in costs due to the need
to produce more profit to pay the stock off to the suppliers.
The winter uniform sample sizes are available from the
Uniform Shop. The Uniform Shop will be open this week
for parents to come in, try the sample sizes on, and pre-
order. A 50% deposit is required for an order to be taken.
We will not be ordering any additional winter uniforms for
stock at this stage. We will only be ordering winter
uniforms pre-ordered. As the Uniform Shop becomes
more financial, we will then stock winter uniforms.
Parents are urged to get in now and order their students’
winter jacket and pants. Coloured winter clothing is not
part of our school uniform – navy blue jackets and pants
only. Girls are able to wear navy blue tights (not bike
pants or leggings) if they wish under their skorts/shorts.
NO ORDERS FOR WINTER
UNIFORMS WILL BE TAKEN
AFTER
9:00am Friday April 29th 2016
Please see below for new costs and Uniform Shop
opening hours this week.

Speed limit in school grounds
There are many cars accessing our school car park who
are exceeding the 10km speed limit. This speed limit has
been set by Main Roads in order to keep our students
safe. Motorists failing to limit their speed to 10km will
have their registration details taken and passed on to the
Police. I ask all motorists to please obey this speed limit
in our carpark.
It is also important to note that when leaving the car park
in Dobson Lane, motorists are crossing a path that many
of our students use. Could you please stop and give way
to any pedestrians, cyclists, etc who may be on this
pathway.
Bike and Scooter Safety
I have had many calls from worried community members
regarding the number of students who are cycling and
scootering to school and not wearing a helmet. Could you
please ensure you provide a helmet for your child and
ensure they are wearing it. Wearing a helmet is
compulsory.
NAPLAN
All our Year 3 and Year 5 students are currently preparing
for the annual national testing program. Teachers are
currently working with our students around the testing
conditions for these tests so that when NAPLAN day
comes, they will feel comfortable.
If there are any parents who have any concerns regarding
their child sitting these tests, could you please speak to
your child’s teacher in the first instance.
Dates for the tests are Tuesday 10 May, Wednesday 11
May, Thursday 12 May with Friday 13 May being the
catchup day.
We will be putting on breakfast for all our Year 3 & 5
students over these 3 mornings.

Designated Pick Up / Drop Off Look
Out Zone Parents are reminded that students must be picked up in the designated zone, not from outside the zone at either end. This is to ensure the safety of all students using the drop off / pick up system. Our safety ladies are there to ensure a smooth and safe transition from school as possible. Please be patient.
From the Department of Transport and Main Roads –
NOTICE TO ALL PARENTS
School crossing supervisors will begin duty on Thursday
14/04/2016 at the Bellmere State School children’s
crossing.
These supervisors have been officially appointed by the
Queensland Government and will operate each school
morning between 8:05a.m. and 8:50a.m. and in the
afternoon from 2:50p.m. until 3:20p.m.
The periods when school crossing supervisors will be on
duty should ensure maximum safety for most pupils
attending this school.
Parents and teachers are asked to encourage their children
to use the supervised crossing and to set a good example
themselves by obeying the supervisor's directions
whenever they use the crossing.
CROSSING PROCEDURE
The school crossing supervisor will ask all pedestrians,
both children and adults, to wait on the footpath. When a
suitable gap appears in the traffic from both directions,
the supervisor will extend the STOP sign to face the traffic
and proceed to the centre of the road with the STOP sign
displayed. The supervisor will blow TWO blasts of the
whistle to indicate that it is safe for pedestrians to cross.
Pedestrians should remain on the crossing and keep left
walking straight across. When all pedestrians have cleared
the crossing, the supervisor then returns to the footpath.
ONE blast with hand raised towards pedestrians’ means
STOP immediately.
NO STOPPING AREAS
The NO STOPPING AREAS serve to protect an area on
either side of the crossing. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT
THIS AREA IS KEPT FREE OF ALL VEHICLES so
that Supervisors have a clear view of approaching traffic.
School crossing supervisors will report the registration
number and details of offending vehicles. Appropriate action will follow. Parents delivering or
waiting for children have NO EXEMPTION.
STOP FOR THE STOP SIGN.
All drivers must stop their vehicles clear of the crossing
when the supervisor holds up the STOP SIGN.
VEHICLES MUST REMAIN STATIONARY UNTIL
THE SCHOOL CROSSING SUPERVISOR
RETURNS TO THE KERB. Failure to comply is
regarded as a serious offence.
PLEASE ASSIST YOUR SUPERVISORS TO
PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN.

have been learning to recognise, describe and sort two
and three dimensional shapes. We have invented some
wonderful creations through shape design.
In Literacy, we are excited to begin sentence writing and
our teacher can’t believe this is our first attempt. She is
so proud!! We will be working on writing every week
