The forest located on the barren slopes above the Abang, Kubu subdistrict to Ban vil- lage almost caught fire every year during dry season. Putra asked the government to socialize or make sustainable program to enhance the public awareness around the forest and at the foot of Mount Agung so that no one would carelessly throw fire if they searched for honey bee, or deliberately burned shrubs, dry grasses and crop residues in their field. It was to prevent the forest fire happening again and again. Putra did not quite believe if the hotspots of forest fires originated from the friction between the tree branches or twigs. He alleged it was kindled by fire remains of honey bee seekers or someone intention- ally burned the grasses and then the fire continued to spread out to the top because of strong winds constantly and strongly blew in this season. Reuters LOS ANGELES - Zac Efron has signed on to star in the

romantic comedy “Are We Officially Dating?” for Treehouse Pictures. Tom Gormican will direct the film from his own screenplay about three friends in New York City who make a pact to remain single just as they each start to fall in love. The film will start production this fall in New York.

Treehouse Pictures’ Justin Nappi and Kevin Turen are pro-ducing the film with Scott Aversano and Andrew O’Connor. QED International is handling international sales.

“We strongly believe in the global appeal of this project and we’re excited to work with the team at Treehouse Pictures to bring it to market in Toronto,” QED International CEO Bill Block said in a statement.

The film is the latest addition to QED’s growing sales slate as it heads into the fall markets. At Toronto and AFM, QED will

be handling international sales for a number of upcoming films, including “Haunt,” written by Andrew Barrer and directed by Mac Carter; “Ten” directed by David Ayer and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger; and “Fading Gigolo,” directed by John Turturro and starring Turturro and Woody Allen.

Treehouse Pictures’ “At Any Price,” starring Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron and directed by Ramin Bahrani, is premiering at the 2012 Venice In-ternational Film Festival and has been acquired by Sony Pictures Clas-sics. Treehouse Pictures is a film finance and production company with offices in Los Angeles and New York.

Jay-Z, like Rocky Balboa, has a rags to riches American dream sto-ry, and the 42-year-old entertainer — who grew up in the Brooklyn projects and released his debut in 1996 — shared some of that through songs in his 90-minute set Saturday night at the “Budweiser Made In America” festival.

He entered from the back of the stage after running down the steps to perform “Public Service An-nouncement.” That was followed with the night’s first cameo: A pre-recorded video with President Barack Obama. Obama urged the crowd to vote this fall. He also said Jay-Z’s story is “what Made In America means” and added that he enjoys listening to the rapper’s music on his iPod.

Jay-Z headlined the first night of the two-day festival he cu-rated, performing hits like “99 Problems,” ‘’Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” ‘’Big Pimpin’” and “Empire State of Mind.” He called it “the first annual Made In America festival.”

The event is the first kind for the entrepre-neurial Jay-Z, who is

married to superstar Beyonce and owns a music management com-pany, fashion line, nightclub and restaurant; he’s also a co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets. “Since you were so good to me, Philly, I’m going to be good to you tonight, Philly,” Jay-Z yelled.

Rappers Pusta T and Big Sean hit the stage, and Kanye West followed, receiving an electrify-ing roar from the crowd. They performed a medley of hits, such as “Mercy,” ‘’Dance” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.”

Jay-Z also brought out his for-mer protégés and Philadelphians Freeway, Chris and Neff, as well as Memphis Bleek. Common, 2 Chainz and Swizz Beatz also made appearances.

Negara (Bali Post)-Every dry season at Subak Peh, Kaliakah Village, tens hectares

of rice fields go to sleep as water shortage is happening moreover its water well has its machine damaged and can’t be used the past year as seen on Friday (31/8).

The rice fields were ignored with cracking soils can be seen. With one water well remaining functioning, it won’t fulfill the three way watering. Head of Subak Peh, I Ketut Kaler, stated the 88 hectares of rice fields had most of it like this coming dry seasons yet few were planted chili trees. Even so, the chilies won’t grow maximal with only little water around so it depends on luck too. According to Kaler, there were two water wells yet only one functioned. Before the dry season, the farmers were able to get water from the water well although it doesn’t cover the whole rice fields. “It is only able to water the south part only,” Kaler stated.

This situation have caused many complains especially for the damaged well to be fixed. Besides that, they also demanded for one more water well so it filled the three way rice fields. Right now as they are not planting, farmers breed cows as most of them have one. (kmb26)

Those who drank at that time were only five people. They were drinking alcoholic drink in the stall owned by Nang Sutri.

The alcoholic drinking party even-tually continued on the following day. The drink belonging to arrack type was allegedly self-mixed with other unknown substances. However, a num-ber of victims claimed if the arrack was mixed with Pepsi Blue and Ginseng. The victim I Wayan Mundra previously seemed in good health. Even, the day after the party he still managed to do his

daily activities. The victim just showed a symptom of alcoholic poisoning the day after the party and was immediately rushed to hospital before he was finally declared dead.

Before self-mixing, the arrack drink was purchased by victim from a number of stalls at Katung village. The traders included I Wayan Gawan aka Kancut, 35, Ni Wayan Jasmin aka Mrs. Kardana and Luwes. AntaraDENPASAR - Bali`s Aids Controlling Commission (KPA) said around

500 pregnant women in Bali carry HIV/AIDs every year.A Commission chairman Prof I Dewa Nyoman Wirawan said here on

Saturday a survey showed that 1 percent of around 50,000 pregnant women every year in Bali are infected by HIV/AIDs .

Dewa Nyoman blamed husbands who have the tendency to change sexual partners for the transmission of the deadly disease to their wives at home.

The transmission of the disease did not stop at the wives but the babies in their wombs would also be infected, he said.

The possibility of the fetus being infected by the diseases from and infected mother is high, he said.

He said around 50 percent of fetuses in the wombs of pregnant carrying HIV/AIDs would be infected by the disease.

This means around 250 of 500 babies born in Bali every year are in-fected by HIV/AIDs, the professor at the medical faculty of the Udayana University, said.

He said the transmission of the disease from the mother to the baby could bot immediately identified, adding the disease could be detected when the child reachs the age of four to five years.

The symptoms are that the child has poor nutrition and suffer from prolonged diarrhea.

According to him, the uncon-trollable development of three-star hotels and under as well as city hotel had resulted in the economic bubbling and price hike of land, but the profits earned from the invest-ment was not comparable. To that end, Bali had to develop quality tourism.

“Bali tourism must be qualified by consistently holding the cultural tourism. It is not a man- made tour-ism or the tourism made by human itself,” he said.

He said that Bali tourism should change the paradigm of mass travel to segmented tourism. The develop-ment of segmented tourism would boost the Bali’s economy growth in the whole.

“The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has developed

7 segmented tourisms such as spa tourism, spiritual tourism, sport tourism and others. With such segmented tourism, the tourism de-velopment can be enjoyed equally,” he said.

He mentioned the development of segmented tourism would have an impact on the improvement of the economic and social welfare. With a high expenditure rate and long length of stay automatically their consumption would also increase.

Chairman of the Center for Cultural and Tourism Research, Udayana University, Agung Sury-awan Wiranatha, Ph.D., previously also suggested the government to change the paradigm of quantity tourism to quality tourism by no longer expecting the number of

tourist visit per year. “Tourism in the future should focus on enhanc-ing the quality of destinations and attractions so that they can be sold at higher price,” he said.

Suryawan said it was time that tourism development paid a great attention to environmental conservation because tourists would be more interested in ecotourism, agrotourism, rural tourism, spiritual tourism and marine tourism.

To be noted, the total growth in the number of hotel rooms in Bali as of 2009 reached 46,000 and then in 2011 has showed an increase of 16,000 rooms or to-tally reached 62,000. By region, the highest position was occupied by Badung Regency, reaching 77 percent. (kmb27)

Bali PostMANGUPURA - The Tourism Industry Association of Indonesia (GIPI) of Bali assessed the

development of non-star hotel accommodation in Bali has been uncontrollable. Bali as a world tourist destination should have a quality tourist accommodation inspired by cultural tourism. “Bali requires five-star hotel. However, the uncontrollable competition is now happening in the three-star hotels and under, city hotel and others. In places where the hotel development is not allowed have been filled with hotels,” said Chairman of GIPI Bali, Ngurah Wijaya.

People using mummy costume during the HIV/AIDS awareness day to campaigned about the infected and deadly disease. Bali`s Aids Controlling Commission (KPA) said around 500 pregnant women in Bali carry HIV/AIDs every year.

This summer, the instrument was towed over miles of seafloor, from Virginia to Cape Cod, taking millions of images and capturing details about marine life and the ocean floor that stretched beyond just the number of scallops. The Seahorse revealed previously un-seen ocean topography, predators stalking prey, and even the furrows

left where fishing gear was pulled along the bottom.

Marine scientists just don’t get this kind of look into the darkness on the ocean floor, said Dvora Hart, a National Oceanic and Atmospher-ic Administration mathematical biologist who leads the federal sea scallop assessment. “We’ve been kind of blind before having this type

of information,” Hart said. The Seahorse is the fourth ver-

sion of HabCam, an instrument originally created to better count scallops. Former scalloper Richard Taylor had seen scallop industry’s worst times around 1994, when the prime fishing areas were closed to protect depleted groundfish and scallop populations.

But by 1996, scientists discov-ered that areas that had been shut down to protect certain fish species were rich with scallops. The indus-try has been thriving since the late 1990s, after regulators installed a plan to cut down fishing days and rotate fishing between different ar-eas, to allow the stock to replenish in untouched regions.

Last year, the Atlantic sea scal-lop catch was worth $580 million in revenues, and the industry’s best-known port of New Bedford has been the nation’s top fishing revenue port for 11 years running.

Back around 2002, Taylor knew things were going well, but also

knew how quickly they can go bad. He was particularly concerned about the inefficiency of the primary method for sampling scallops for use in population estimates — using a dredge to scoop them up. A dredge misses varying percentages of the scallops it goes over, and Taylor wor-ried the flawed information could eventually lead to the overfishing or underfishing that can drag down the resource and the fishermen.

Taylor talked with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution biolo-gist Scott Gallager, whom he had worked with on scallop issues. “We need a better tool,” he told Gallager.

BOSTON — A new underwater explorer hit the seas this summer, armed with cameras, strobes and sonar and charged with being a protector of sorts to a half-billion dollar resource — the Atlantic scallop catch. The stainless steel Seahorse, which gets its nickname from its s-shaped silhouette, traces its roots to a conversation a decade ago between a biologist and a fisherman who was seeking a better way to track the scallop population.

Archaeologists have uncovered two 9,500-year-old cultic figurines in excavations just outside of Jerusalem, the Israeli Antiquities Authority (IAA) reported Wednesday (Aug. 29).

Found at the Tel Moza archaeological site, one of the Neolithic figures is a limestone ram with precisely carved spiral horns. “The sculpting is extraordinary and precisely depicts details of the anima’s image,” the IAA excava-tors said in a statement about the ram, adding that “the head and the horns protrude in front of the body and their proportions are extremely accurate.” The other is a more abstract sculp-ture of a wild bovine fashioned from dolomite, according to the IAA. Both are about 6 inches (15 centimeters) long.

Archaeologists believe these objects might have had cultic importance for the people who created them. The animal figurines were found near the remains of an ancient round building, dating back to a dynamic time in the region’s history when humans were transitioning from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to one of farming

and settling in villages. “It is known that hunting was the major

activity in this period,” Hamoudi Khalaily, co-excavator of the site for the IAA, said in a statement. “Presumably, the figurines served as good-luck statues for ensuring the success of the hunt and might have been the focus of a traditional ceremony the hunters performed before going out into the field to pursue their prey.”

Khalaily added that the archaeological evidence from this time period, called the Pre-Pottery Neolithic B, including these ani-mal figurines, “teaches us about the religious life, the worship and the beliefs of Neolithic society.

However, archaeologist and excavator Anna Eirikh thinks the artifacts may have been as-sociated with the process of animal domestica-tion; the process of plant and animal domesti-cation occurred during this time period.

Excavations at Tel Moza are taking place ahead of the expansion of Highway 1, the main road connecting Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

While New Orleans streets were bustling again and workers were returning to offshore oil rigs, thou-sands of evacuees couldn’t return home to flooded low-lying areas of Louisiana and more than 400,000 sweltering electricity customers in the state remained without power.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service said two tornadoes touched down in rural areas of north-central Illinois and at least two touched down in rural southeast Missouri. There were no reports of damage in Illinois, and Missouri officials said

some power lines caught on fire. The weather service said the

storm would bring some drought relief to parts of the Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys. By midday Saturday, it had dumped up to 5 inches of rain in parts of Illinois and between 4 and 6 inches in parts of Missouri. In Louisiana, the number without power was down from more than 900,000. However, in heavily populated Jefferson Parish near New Orleans, parish president John Young said Entergy Corp. was too slow in restoring electricity.

“I don’t see boots on the ground,” said Young, who complained that he has seen repair trucks sitting idle in a staging area and fielded calls from residents and business owners com-plaining about a lack of progress.

“We’ve restored about 45 per-cent of our customers in about a day and a half, Entergy spokesman Chanel Lagarde said Saturday. He added that crews have come in from 24 states. “In many situations, crews have driven all day and have worked their 16-hour day and have to rest for the day.”

As of Saturday night, the com-pany was reporting about 270,000 outages, most in Jefferson and Orleans parishes. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said he too was eager to get power back on. “Like everybody else, my patience is wearing thin,” he said.

LONDON — Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu says Tony Blair and George Bush

should face prosecution at the International Criminal Court for their role in the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq

Tutu, the retired Anglican Church’s archbishop of South Afr ica , wrote Sunday in an op-ed piece for The Observer newspaper that the ex-leaders of Britain and the United States should be made to “answer for their actions.”

He accused Blair and Bush of fabricating “the grounds to be-have like playground bullies” and said the Iraq war destabilized the Middle East more than “any other conflict in history.”

Tutu, a staunch critic of the Iraq war, last week withdrew from a conference in South Africa due to Blair’s presence at the event.

Queen Elizabeth attended the Highland Games at Braemar in Scotland alongside Prince Philip, who was making his second public appearance since being hospitalised last month.

Organisers had feared Philip, 91, would not be able to attend af-ter he spent five nights in hospital in Aberdeen receiving treatment for a recurrence of a bladder infection before being discharged on August 20.

The royal family make an annual outing to the Braemar Gather-ing, a short distance for their summer residence at Balmoral where Philip has been recuperating.

Philip defied the cold and damp conditions to accompany the queen, who is patron of the Games, to watch a series of traditional events including caber-tossing, hammer-throwing and the tug of war.

Philip had first been admitted to hospital with the infection in June, forcing him to miss the end of the diamond jubilee celebrations.

Last weekend, Philip made his first public appearance since leaving hospital when he attended a church service at Crathie Kirk, near Balmoral.

The Games, held at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in the village of Braemar, take place on the first Saturday of each September and regularly attract visitors from around the world.

The Gathering is seen as the biggest event in the Highland Games calendar and has a long history, stretching back in its modern form nearly 200 years.

Denpasar (Bali Post) –

Tens of craft sellers in Kumbasa-ri Traditional Market complained the little amount of buyers coming about with only one or two coming moreover none. One seller, Dede, who sells Balinese clothing in Kum-basari when met last Friday (31/8) stated the spreading modern mar-kets in Bali have caused a drastic decrease on the visitation to these kind of places as modern souvenirs markets/shops are much better and up to date. “Seeing from its price and quality, Kumbasari market is much more cheaper compare to the new souvenir markets and its qual-ity is the same as it comes from the same distributor,” Dede stated.

Yet Dede realized that Kum-basari’s facility is not fulfilling as no bus, that might have carried a group of visitors, can go in and park as the parking lot is not as large as those in modern ones. Big busses usually got a schedule to go to a souvenir shop while Kumbasari sellers can only give up and accept what there are. If it’s crowded, at least IDR 2.5 million is received in a day which happens during Eid holidays. During normal days, only one or two items were sold. Even so Dede is thankful that there are still visitors coming in to this traditional market. “Up and downs are usual,” Dede stated.

The same was stated by Justhi-ani, owner of Justhiani Shop, who

tend to relax selling metal kind of souvenirs. It was stated before any of the modern souvenir shops existed and even though the minim parking space happens, many still come here.

Meanwhile Denpasar City through Industrial and Trade Agen-cy stated is doing an anticipation by supervising and reviewing it again as stated by Head I Wayan Gatra. “We don’t want this kind of shops keep on repeating. By now there are not a lot oof them yet when it spread there should be a quota to it so arranging it would be better. This should be coordinated with Denpasar Permit Agency also Spa-tial Planning and Housing Agency. (kmb27)

Residents of Penarukan Kaja admitted to be furi-ous against the handling made by the project contrac-tor. After the incident, the cables extending across the house were still left scattered. Another complaint was the large cable virtually broke down the house roof and family shrines. “I was forced to make a bamboo buffer so that the cable did not topple over the house and shrine,” he said on Saturday (Sep 1). The man also complained about the cables breaking down the house roof of his brother, Made Sudiartika, and it was not immediately evacuated.

Emotion of Gunadi peaked when he saw a num-ber of workers tidying up the collapsing transmis-sion tower not far from his home. With his anger, he reprimanded the workers. They were asked to remove the cable breaking down his family’s home. “Why should you handle this tower first? Look at our homes and shrines, they virtually collapsed as hit by the cable,” he said. According to Gunadi, his party had been patient enough to wait for the evacuation by the contractor. However, the con-tractor seemed to ignore the safety of his family. Protest of Gunadi was then responded. A number of workers moved directly toward the house of his family affected by the cables.

Other than being sluggish, Gunadi also ques-tioned about the compensation due to such incident. According to him, the collapse of transmission tower and cable had slightly disturbed his family, chiefly regarding the ritual that should be organized after the incident. “The damage to the house roof is not too much, but the expensive one is the post-inci-dent ritual. Until now, there has been no compensa-tion at all,” he protested. He hoped the contractor could immediately provide compensation as well as evacuate the tower and cables extending across his family’s home. Luckily, added Gunadi, there was a coconut tree shoring up the collapsing cables.

Otherwise, the family’s house would certainly break down as hit by the cables.

Aside from Gunadi, a number of farmers also complained because the cables hampered their access leading to their farmland as happened at Sudimara village. As a result, farmers should turn when they were going to rice field. Other residents were forced to walk because their vehicle was blocked by the transverse cables.

Headman of Penarukan, Made Arta Sedana, also urged the contractor to take quick evacuation, espe-cially uplifting the cables collapsing on top of the house. The cable network had made people easily angry and their emotion was even easily provoked. “Ideally, the contractor takes quick action and do not let people get angry. Their compensation should be disbursed immediately,” he requested.

As reported previously, four transmission towers at Penarukan, Kerambitan and Sudimara village, Tabanan, collapsed. Such incident was triggered by the collapse of cable rope implanted in the farmland of Sudimara. A house was damaged and a number of shrines were hit by the cable network.

Meanwhile, the Manager of Unit Implementa-tion Construction of PLN Bali, Nursuciono, ascer-tained that his party would provide compensation to people whose house was affected by the disaster. He also reprimanded the contractor and gave a deadline to immediately rescue and make evacuation efforts. This official confirmed that such incident happened due to natural factors. According to him, the entire procedures of the tower making and cable installa-tion had been followed properly. (kmb30)

Sluggish handling against disaster of the collapsing four high voltage transmission towers at Penarukan village, Kerambitan, continued to flow. Agence France-Presse WASHINGTON - US Federal

Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke expressed deep worry over the US economy and unemployment Friday, sending a strong signal that he wants the central bank to take fresh action to stimulate growth.

Warning that stagnation in the labor market was “a grave concern,” Ber-nanke defended the Fed’s interventions of the past four years and signaled he would be pushing for more help for the economy when the Fed’s policy board meets in 12 days.

“The economic situation is obvi-ously far from satisfactory,” he said in the keynote speech of the Fed’s annual conference of central bankers in Jack-son Hole, Wyoming.

“Growth in recent quarters has been tepid, and so, not surprisingly, we have seen no net improvement in the unem-ployment rate since January,” he said.

“Unless the economy begins to grow more quickly than it has recently, the unemployment rate is likely to remain far above levels consistent with maxi-mum employment for some time.”

Bernanke made clear that the jobless rate, stuck around 8.3 percent, the sharp fall in labor market participation in the past four years, and long-term jobless-ness are some of his biggest worries.

“The stagnation of the labor market in particular is a grave concern not only because of the enormous suffering and

waste of human talent it entails, but also because persistently high levels of unemployment will wreak structural damage on our economy that could last for many years,” he said.

In a firm statement, Bernanke said the Fed will take additional action “as needed” to strengthen growth and boost job creation.

Markets liked the news, with oil prices climbing steadily and the S&P 500 index ending 0.51 percent higher.

Bond prices climbed sharply too, with the yield on the 10-year Treasury bond falling to 1.56 percent from 1.62 percent Thursday.

Bernanke, whose easy money poli-cies have been criticized by conserva-tive politicians including Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, delivered a lengthy defense of the Fed’s actions since the financial crisis.

He said that efforts to drive down long-term interest rates through “quan-titative easing” (QE) bond purchase operations and other programs had boosted economic output by three per-cent and added more than two million jobs “relative to what otherwise would have occurred.

He warned, as he has over much of the past year, that Fed action is not a panacea for policy action from politi-cal leaders.

Besides heavy spending cuts by federal and local governments, he said the economy has been held back by partisan battles over raising the debt

ceiling and the looming “fiscal cliff” policy -- a poison-pill budget law from last year that could force a sharp con-traction in the economy beginning on January 1 if not changed.

“Policymakers should take care to avoid a sharp near-term fiscal contrac-tion that could endanger the recovery,” Bernanke said.

Economists said Bernanke’s com-ments raised the likelihood that he could garner support for fresh action in the Federal Open Market Committee’s September 12-13 meeting -- whether more firm signaling of Fed intent on keeping interest rates low over the next few years, or a third QE program.

“The Fed chairman’s Jackson Hole speech was clearly consistent with more Fed easing, although not de-finitive,” said Jim O’Sullivan of High Frequency Economics.

“At a minimum, we expect officials to extend their forward guidance on the near-zero funds rate at the September meeting, with a slightly better than 50 percent chance that a new asset pur-chase program -- i.e. QE3 -- will be announced then as well,” O’Sullivan said. Not all were as bullish, noting the resistance to a QE3 in the FOMC and the still-mixed signals from data.

“We continue to anticipate a ‘verbal easing’ through extension of the Fed funds guidance, but do not anticipate quantitative easing at this juncture,” said Joseph LaVorgna of Deutsche Bank.

The 18,002,000 headline job-less figure released by Eurostat was the highest since records be-gan in 1995, the European Union data agency confirmed.

An additional 88,000 people joined the ranks of the unemployed throughout July, although upward-ly-revised June data meant that the unemployment rate was unchanged at 11.3 percent, it said.

With an estimated 25.254 mil-lion unemployed across the full Eu-ropean Union, which also includes non-euro heavyweights Britain and Poland, and annualised inflation also rising to 2.6 percent in August according to a separate Eurostat release, the figures had analysts warning of ever-tighter household spending acting as a further drag on governments’ hopes of recovery.

The stark jump in dole queues added to fuel-price rises at the root of the renewed climb for inflation “supports the view that the down-turn in household spending will intensify in the second half of this year,” said London-based Capital Economics’ Ben May.

The news emerged as the In-ternational Labour Organisation warned of a “catastrophic” rise in unemployment, especially among the young, if debt-wracked Greece were to leave the eurozone or if the bloc were to split.

“It would be a catastrophe for the European youth,” Ekkehard Ernst, a senior economist at the UN body, told a German daily, warning that close to one in 10 would be without a job even in

powerhouse Germany by 2014.At 5.5 percent, the unemploy-

ment rate was much lower in Eu-rope’s leading economy, likewise neighbouring Austria and the Neth-erlands, but more than one in four are still out of work in Spain.

According to Christian Schulz of Berenberg bank, German jobs growth over recent months was already “past its peak.”

Annual unemployment increases in Spain and Greece were easily the highest, and both countries, labour-ing under sovereign and banking debt crises, logged jobless rates among the key under-25s age-group of more than 50 percent.

In a note released ahead of the data’s publication, analyst Patrick Arbus of France’s Natixis warned that rising unemploy-ment coupled with austerity was leading directly to “destruction of growth potential.”

The EU announced earlier in August that eurozone growth slipped back into reverse over the second quarter of 2012, with a 0.2-percent contraction. Subsequent commercial surveys of private busi-ness activity also showed a seventh monthly decline in a row in August marked by the rate of contraction gathering pace in Germany.

According to research firm Markit, the eurozone is facing a 0.5-0.6 percent drop in gross domestic product (GDP) for the third quarter, which would meet the widely accepted definition of recession, two successive quarters of economic contraction.

Such ancient shrine is located 15 meters from the shrines of Bukit Puun temple. Allegedly, the sanc-tum is a relic of the kings in Bali. It is believed to have been hundreds of years because its condition has been mossy and overgrown by shrubs. It is oval and looks like a phallus of Shiva.

Discovery of the shrine began when residents made a road project to location of the temple, as well as expanded the courtyard of Bukit Puun temple. When clearing the forest near the temple shrine, one of the temple priests encountered a large towering stone. Seeing such infelicity, the temple priest informed the other residents. After the discovery, the temple priest was directly trembling and speechless. He was getting fine after perform-ing a ritual at location of the shrine discovery. Another strange incident was the priest of Bukit Puun Tem-ple, Jro Mangku Wayan Arsana, fell down when riding motorbike with other resident to the Bukit Puun temple. As a result, the hand of the elderly man was swollen. Strangely,

he immediately recovered when planning a ritual at location of the shrine discovery.

“This ancient shrine is believed to have been hundreds of years old. However, it was just found two weeks ago when residents were clearing the forest for widening the courtyard of Bukit Puun temple,” said senior figure of Soka custom-ary village, Nyoman Sirta, accom-panied by the priest of Merajapati temple, Putu Adnyana, amidst the ritual last Saturday. More strangely, when residents were measuring the location of shrines, they acciden-tally used a bizarre way resembling a circle of swastika. With such measure, the ancient shrine was eventually encountered.

He explained that based on a spiritual vision, the ancient shrine was closely related to the shrines of Bukit Puun temple. It was be-lieved the ancient shrine was used to venerate the deity from Mount Semeru, Lumajang, East Java, while the Bukit Puun temple was used to venerate his son. “So, this ancient shrine is the main and older

one. It is the abode of the deity from Mount Sumeru Agung, Lumajang,” affirmed Sirta. Based on the history and spiritual vision, added Sirta, the deity abiding in the ancient shrine was assigned to Bali.

His assignment was to help the king, especially in Tabanan, maintain the prosperity. Previously, when the king would organize a melasti (purificatory rite to source of water) to Tanah Lot he had to involve the deity from Bukit Puun. Otherwise, the sea water at Tanah Lot would never subside. Until now,

such tradition is still carried out. On that account, the Bukit Puun Temple is closely related to Tanah Lot Temple. Even, the son of deity at Bukit Puun married with one of the daughters of the deity of Tanah Lot. The shrine of Bukit Puun is also associated with Lake Tamblin-gan and Ulun Siwi Batu Lumbung as a symbol of farmer prosperity.

To reach the ancient shrines, it is required a bitter struggle. From Soka customary village, the pil-grims should walk down a fairly steep gravel road and it will take

about 2 hours. As planned, the an-cient shrines will be made the main shrine in the Bukit Puun temple. Now, local customary villagers are preparing a development in the temple. One of them is clearing the forest around the location as well as paving the way leading to the temple. “Hopefully, the road to the temple can soon be paved or covered by concrete so that the construction of the ancient shrine can be accomplished,” said the development committee, Nyoman Suartawan. But General Liang Guanglie’s trip -- the first by a Chinese defense min-ister in eight years -- also highlights growing competition between the two emerging powers as they jostle for influence and resources across Asia. Liang is due to arrive in Mumbai on Sunday afternoon after stopping in Sri Lanka, the island nation off the south coast of India that sits on vital ocean trade routes.

There he sought to play down Indian fears that China is threading a “string of pearls” -- or encircling it by financing infrastructure and military strength in neighbors stretching from Pakistan to the Maldives. “China attaches great im-portance to its relations with the South Asian nations, and commits itself to

forging harmonious co-existence and mutually beneficial and win-win coop-eration with them,” he said in speech to Sri Lankan soldiers.

“The PLA’s (People’s Liberation Army) efforts in conducting friendly exchanges and cooperation with its counterparts in the South Asian na-tions are intended for maintaining regional security and stability and not targeted at any third party.”

As neighbors and emerging super-powers, India and China have a com-plex relationship. Trade has grown at a dizzying rate but Beijing is wary of India’s close ties to Washington and memories of a border war with China half a century ago are still fresh in New Delhi. Despite 15 rounds of

high level talks to resolve the dispute about where their Himalayan border lies, neither side is close to giving up any territory. Liang is not expected to broach the territorial issue on his trip.

Analysts say Liang’s India tour will demonstrate that Beijing is managing the often twitchy relations with its neighbor just ahead of its once-in-a-decade leadership transition.

“China’s leadership has one pri-mary objective: how do we continue without any convulsions,” said Uday Bhaskar, director of the National Maritime Foundation, a New Delhi think-tank. “You do not want to have anything to do with India just now which is rocking the boat, as it were,” he said.

DUBAI - Iran will hold a large-scale military drill involving all its air defense systems next month, an Iranian commander was quoted as saying on Satur-day, one of a number of military simulations it has carried out this year. The air defense drill will include fighter jets and simulate emergency situations, said Farzad Esmaili, commander of the Iranian army’s air defense force, according to Iran’s English-language Press TV.

The drill will include both the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Esmaili said, and follows a series of large-scale military simulations such as the “Great Prophet 7” missile exercises in July. Israeli leaders’ warnings that time is running out to halt Iran’s controversial nuclear program have raised concern they may order an attack on Iranian nuclear sites, though Israel has come under growing international pressure

not to act alone.Israel and major Western powers suspect Iran is

secretly trying to acquire the ability to produce nuclear bombs, but Tehran says its program is for purely peace-ful purposes.

“Today our systems are prepared in a serious way for modern air threats, such that the performance of the systems compared to the previous profile has im-proved,” Esmaili was quoted as saying on Friday by the Iranian newspaper Hamshahri.

“The army air defense command’s mission, with the development of the national defense mission and coordination between the armed forces, is to under-take appropriate operations against the threats of the enemies,” he said, without mentioning any country by name.

Iran announced last month that it had tested a short-range missile with a new guidance system capable of striking land and sea targets.

AntaraJAYAPURA - Unidentified persons exploded a low

intensity bomb inside the Jayawijaya parliament build-ing, Papua, around 2:15 local time on Saturday.

The bomb was reportedly sourced from the parliament`s Honorary Council building and has dam-

aged some of its glass facilities and its ceiling. No casualties have been reported so far. However, the police deputy chief of the Papua prov-

ince, Police Brigadier General Paulus Waterpauw said that the local Jayawijaya police are yet to report any such incident having taken place.

“Two terror suspects were killed in Solo, central Java, on Friday night by the anti-terror police unit Detachment 88. One other was arrested,” national po-lice spokesman Boy Rafli Amar told reporters.

“They were armed and one of the police officers was also shot dead.”

Police received a tip-off that the men were involved in the fatal shooting of an officer on Thursday night and were planning more at-tacks, said national police chief Timur Pradopo.

Two weeks earlier, a grenade was also thrown at a Solo police post.

“The men were behind three shootings before Friday’s and they

are part of a new group that has links to older terror networks in the area,” Pradopo said.

“Both the men killed were 19 years old,” he told reporters in Solo.

National Counterterrorism Agency chief Ansyaahd Mbai said in a text message the men were part of Jemaah Anshorut Tauhid (JAT), founded in 2008 by Indo-nesia’s so-called father of Islamic militancy, Abu Bakar Bashir.

JAT was dubbed a terrorist organisation by the United States earlier this year and has been linked to smaller new terror cells on the island of Java.

President Susilo Bambang Yud-hoyono said the teenagers resisted arrest when they were shot outside

a shop in Ngruki village, considered a hotbed of militant activity.

They were “not working alone”, he said.

Detachment 88 has led a long and successful crackdown on mili-tant groups over the last decade, claiming the scalps of some of the country’s most notorious terrorist suspects blamed for major attacks.

The unit has faced criticism, however, for using excessive force and targeting separatists and pro-independence activists.

Muslim-majority Indonesia suf-fered a series of deadly attacks over the last decade by terror network Jemaah Islamiyah -- blamed for the Bali bombings in 2002 that left 202 dead -- but there has not been a major incident in recent years.

JAKARTA - Indonesian police are holding 50 Sri Lankan asy-lum-seekers in custody two days after they were found stranded and starving in a faulty boat drift-ing off Sumatra, a rescue official said on Saturday.

Fishermen found the asylum seekers, who were trying to reach Australia, on Thursday on a boat with a broken engine and brought them ashore, National Search and Rescue Agency spokesman Gagah Prakoso told AFP.

“They were starving and dehy-drated, but have since been given food, water and medical atten-tion. They are now in the custody of police in the town of Sikakap,” he said, adding that the asylum-seekers were mostly men.

The boat was found drifting near the Mentawai islands, a pop-ular surfing destination around 100 kilometres (62 miles) from the western coast of Sumatra.

It had left Sri Lanka more than

two weeks earlier, local rescue official Josafath Roberth Duka told Kompas daily, and its en-gine had broken down nine days before being discovered by the fishermen.

The discovery happened as Indonesian rescuers scrambled to find 150 asylum-seekers, all believed to be Afghans, whose boat was destroyed some 24 hours before.

Of that group, 54 were res-cued, with the assistance of an Australian search team, and are also in the custody of Indonesian authorities.

A search team continued to scour the ocean in a rescue boat Saturday to look for remaining victims or bodies, but by the late afternoon, none had been retrieved, Prakoso said.

Australia is facing a steady influx of asylum-seekers arriv-ing by boat, many of whom run into trouble on rickety vessels in Indonesian waters after fleeing their home countries.

Agence France-Presse JAKARTA - Three Chinese

firms will invest up to $8.6 billion in Indonesian smelters, Jakarta’s industry minister said Thursday, as a ban on the export of raw minerals from Southeast Asia’s biggest nation looms.

“Oriental Mining and Minerals Resources and Rui Tong Investment will invest $1.5 billion in direct re-duced iron plants with a capacity of six million tonnes,” state-run news agency Antara reported Mohamad Hidayat as saying.

“Beijing Shuangzhongli In-vestment Management will invest $7.1 billion in alumina refining plants with a production capac-ity of 1.8 million tonnes”, the minister added.

The investment comes after a string of similar deals as China deepens its presence in Indonesia before the resource-rich nation implements a blanket ban on ore

exports, slated for 2014.Indonesia has in the past year

tightened protectionist policies in the mining sector, obliging foreigners with new mining permits to divest a controlling stake in assets after 10 years of production.

It also imposed a 20 percent tax on raw mineral exports, and obliged ore exporters to invest in Indonesian smelters.

Hidayat said the $8.6 billion investment would create 46,000 new jobs for Indonesians.

A subsidiary of the govern-ment-backed Aluminum Cor-poration of China, or Chalco, this week signed a deal with Indonesia’s Indonusa Dwitama to develop a refinery for bauxite, the raw material for aluminium.

Earlier this month, Bosai Min-erals Group, China’s largest bauxite producer, announced a $1 billion investment to build a similar plant in Indonesia.

Bomb explodes at Jayawijaya parliament building

Putra said that people originally saw a single hotspot two days before below and the upper area the foot of mountain. However, on Friday afternoon (Aug 31) the fire engulfed and kept on burning the forest from the foot to top of the moun-tain. “Initially, there was information if resident made charcoal,” he said.

Other than socialization and counseling on the public awareness enhancement to residents living at the foot of the mountain such as at Kedampal made by the government, he also begged the locals not to burn the crop residues. Similarly, he also told that forest was important and the forest on Mount Agung should be preserved so as not to be on fire. Forest was important as a shade and refresher other than keeping the rainwater so that it could get absorbed into the soil. As consequence, the springs would not dry up in dry season. “If forest on Mount Agung keeps on burning regularly every season, all parties will lose out, both the residents living on the lower region and our brothers at Kedampal,” he said.

Meanwhile, a number of people from all over Bali continued to send SMS asking for information about the forest fire on Mount Agung. They were wor-ried about the fire would approach and reach the temples located on the slopes of Mount Agung such as the Pasar Agung Sebudi temple.

On the other hand, the priests of Pasar Agung Sebudi temple met last Satur-day at local temple such as Jero Mangku Gde Umbara in charge of Melanting temple and Jero Mangku Gde Ketut Sigra in charge of Pasar Agung Sebudi temple said the temple complex was still safe. The fire was still far in the east of Mount Agung, while the Pasar Agung temple complex was located on the western slope.

Mangku Gde Umbara said if the fire reached the southern region it could be seen on the slope of southern peak of Mount Agung. Nevertheless, the extin-guishing effort and anticipation to prevent the fire from reaching the southern slope was indeed required. Aside from preventing the fire from burning out the total forest area on the highest mountain in Bali, it was also to prevent the deforestation and subsequent disasters like flooding.

In the past, he added, the fire was indeed burning the forest above the Pasar Agung temple. Fortunately, it could be anticipated by residents and officials by extinguishing it together. “We think the position of Pasar Agung temple is secure because the fire burning the forests was in the eastern upper slope. Meanwhile, location of the temple is beneath. It is a bit difficult for the flames to go down, but if there is a forest fire on the slopes under the temple it will endanger the Pasar Agung temple because the fire will surely be going up,” said Mangku Umbara.

Firefighter teamMeanwhile, the team of forest firefighters consisting of 56 people had been

assigned to location. They were from a joint regional team comprising the Bali regional disaster management agency (BPBD) of Karangasem, Bali disaster management agency, National SAR Agency as well as Forestry Agency of Karangasem. The team went up to the slopes and approached the hotspots at Kedampal hamlet, Datah village, Abang subdistrict, Karangasem. From this village was the closest distance to hotspots covered within two hours journey or tens of kilometers away from the end of the road at Kedampal hamlet or Puseh Temple of Kedampal.

The team attempted to extinguish the fire with pot luck such as leafy tree branch. Unfortunately, the fire could not be extinguished and until the afternoon the thick smokes remained to billow forth from the hotspots. There had been no attempt of using helicopter to pour down water or create artificial rain.

The forest fire did not only shock the residents of Karangasem, but also people from other regions where they were asking information via SMS about the safety of Pasar Agung and Besakih Temple. Some people claimed to be surprised because the flames were extending from the top of mountain and going down to the foot of mountain rapidly. When the night was getting darker, the fire was seen to burn brightly and people thought it molten lava of the Mount Agung. Many children also were asking whether the Mount Agung erupted. They were made afraid and troubled when seeing the large flames on the Mount Agung. (013)

Did not seem to matter at all. After splitting Saturday’s first eight games against 42nd-ranked Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, the fourth-seeded Williams got into high gear and breezed to a 6-4, 6-0 victory, reeling off the last eight games in a row.

“Definitely was motivated. Knowing that I lost; could definitely happen again. Did not want that to happen,” said Williams, who hit 13 aces to raise her tour-leading total this season to 408. “I really hate watching matches that I lose, unless I’m punishing myself,” added the 14-time Grand Slam champion. “I didn’t punish myself.”

She hasn’t been losing much lately. Since the only first-round Grand Slam exit of her career, against 111th-ranked Virginie Raz-zano at the French Open on May 29, Williams is 22-1 in singles, includ-ing the title at Wimbledon and gold medal at the London Olympics.

That sort of excellence sure

saves money for clothes: Williams said she threw out all of the dresses she brought to Paris to wear during matches there.

No such problems so far in New York, where Williams has dropped only 12 games entering her fourth-round match against 82nd-round Andrea Hlavackova of Czech Republic. Hlavackova, the 2011 French Open doubles champion, bawled on court after her 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over 14th-seeded Maria Kirilenko, whose boyfriend, Wash-ington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin, was in New York to cheer for her.

The woman Williams beat in the Wimbledon final, second-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska, dealt with the 90-degree heat and former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic with equal aplomb during a 6-3, 7-5 victory. “I was melting there,” Radwanska said. “I survived the match.” She wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

Olympic champion Andy Mur-ray, still seeking his first Grand

Slam title after four losses in finals, eked out a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (4) victory over No. 30 Feliciano Lopez, who led in each of the three tiebreakers before faltering. “Could have gone either way,” Murray acknowledged. “It was very hot and humid in the middle part of the match. I was struggling a bit with that.”

The man he beat for the gold at the Summer Games, and lost to in the Wimbledon title match, Roger Federer, is also Murray’s potential semifinal opponent in New York. Federer, as is often the case, barely was bothered Saturday while dis-missing No. 25 Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Five of Federer’s record 17 Grand Slam titles came at Flushing Meadows, and he’s sure looking capable of adding to those numbers. “He didn’t give me many chances with his serve,” observed Verdasco, who held only one break point and failed to convert it.

Federer also was pretty good at the net, winning 26 of the 27 points when he moved forward. He next will take on No. 23 Mardy Fish, who needed to set aside 75 unforced errors over more than 3 hours to beat No. 16 Gilles Simon 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in a match that ended after 1 a.m. Sunday.

LONDON - South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius began his London Paralym-pic campaign in scintillating fashion as he smashed the 200 metres T44 world record in his heat on Saturday. Pistorius ran 21.30, shaving more than half a second off the previous record set by Brazilian Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira in an earlier heat.

The 25-year-old, who is dubbed the ‘Blade Runner’, is defending the 100m, 200m and 400m Olympic titles he won in Beijing four years ago. Pistorius, who wears carbon fibre prosthetic blades after he was born without a fibula in both legs, became the first double amputee to run in the Olympics, where he made the 400 metres semi-finals.

“I’m so happy to be back here This crowd is as awesome as they were a couple of weeks ago. I’m happy with the time and tomorrow is the big race and I am looking forward to that,” he told Britain’s Channel 4. “To be out here representing our country in such an amazing stadium is so amazing.”

Pistorius, who was roared around the Olympic stadium by a passionate London crowd, is now the hot favou-rite to clinch 200m gold in Sunday’s final. His scorching time has given him confidence that he might be able to complete the clean sweep as he did in China four years ago, although he admits the 100m is where he will face his stiffest test.

He ran his first 100m in 16 months in Warsaw recently and put in a good performance, but he knows his com-petitors are now more finely tuned than ever. “A world record tonight so we will see what happens, but the 100m is not my event,” he added.

Returning to the Olympic stadium, Pistorius said he was impressed with how London had embraced the Para-lympics. “I have been here so many times and have never seen things that I have seen here lately. “You get on the subway and people hold the door and help each other out. “It has really transformed the city and the perception of a lot of people. I think the things that sport can do for a country are absolutely mind blowing.”

Casey Stoner has returned home after having surgery on his injured ankle on Thursday. The factory Honda MotoGP squad described the operation on the torn ligaments the reigning world champion sustained in a crash at Indianapolis as “successful”.

A statement from Honda Racing Corporation said: “Today in Austra-lia, Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner received surgery to his ankle.

“Doctors are pleased with how the operation went, and now must

wait during this initial recupera-tion period to see how the ankle is healing.”

Stoner raced with the injury at Indianapolis and finished fourth, but after assessing himself further for the following race at Brno he decided against continuing to ride.

The 26-year-old, who will retire from MotoGP at the end of the season, admitted when he withdrew from the Czech Grand Prix that the injury had “finished” his chances of retaining his crown.

Not one bit. she used to engage in that sort of film work, Williams said, but “it was so painful; it was like stabbing myself.” so even though Williams knew her third-round opponent at the U.s. Yaya Toure gave City a 16th minute lead at Eastlands when he scored from close range following a corner.

But Italian boss Mancini would have been fuming when QPR, managed by his City predecessor Mark Hughes, equalised against the run of play in the 59th minute.

England goalkeeper Joe Hart could only parry a fierce drive from Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora headed into an empty net.

But parity lasted just two minutes with Edin Dzeko heading in an excellent Carlos Tevez cross.

Argentina striker Tevez put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time when he deflected in Dzeko’s wayward shot.

“I think we played well in first half but we have one problem at the moment and that’s that when we have a chance to score we don’t,” Mancini told the BBC.

“I said it is important that we improve because we can’t concede a goal in every game.”

Earlier, Andre Villas-Boas was still left searching for his first win as Tottenham Hotspur manager after a 1-1 draw at home to Norwich.

The Portuguese boss, after several fine saves by Spurs keeper Brad Friedel kept the game goalless, saw his side take the lead when Mousa Dembele, signed from Fulham this week, scored on his club debut in the 68th minute.

But, as happened in their draw with West Brom, Spurs conceded a late equaliser when Robert Snodgrass scored five minutes from time at White Hart Lane.

And Villas-Boas’s day got worse when substitute Tom Huddlestone, only on for seven minutes, was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Jonny Howson.

This result will only increase the pressure on Villas-Boas, sacked by Chelsea last season be-fore Spurs’ London rivals won the Champions League, to prove he can succeed in England.

“We are very disappointed with the way we have played,” Villas-Boas said.

“I understand why the fans are frustrated. No one wants to draw two games at home like that but we will repay their faith.”

Swansea missed the chance to go top of the Premier League after a 2-2 draw at home to Sunder-land.

They fell behind when Sunderland’s £12 million striker Steven Fletcher seized on a loose backpass from Swans

defender Ashley Williams to put the visitors 1-0 up in the 40th minute.

But Swansea were level ahead of the break through Wayne Routledge before Scotland forward Fletcher restored Sunderland’s lead in the sixth minute of injury time.

Swansea though made it 2-2 when the in-form Michu headed in his fourth goal this season in the 66th minute.

But five minutes later the Swans were down to 10 men when defender Chico was sent off for a wild challenge on Louis Saha.

However, the result was overshadowed for Swansea by the broken ankle suffered early on by Wales full-back Neil Taylor.

West Brom’s impressive start to the season continued with a 2-0 win over fellow high-flyers Everton.

Shane Long gave the Baggies a 65th-minute lead before Gareth McAuley sealed victory eight minutes from time.

Andy Carroll made an immediate impact at West Ham as the £35 million Liverpool reject inspired his new club to a 3-0 win over Fulham at Upton Park, setting up goals for Kevin Nolan and Matt Taylor either side of Winston Reid’s effort.

But the England striker’s debut was marred by a ham-string injury which ruled him out of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.

Wigan and Stoke shared the points in a 2-2 draw.

New AC Milan recruit Giam-paolo Pazzini took his stock with the Rossoneri sky high by scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win away to Bologna on Saturday. Pazzini was part of the exchange that took AC Milan’s coveted striker Antonio Cassano the other way last week -- a transfer which angered many of AC Milan’s fans.

But a week after starting his new job with a shock home defeat to Sampdoria, the Italy striker took no time in showing where his loyal-ties now lie by scoring a first-half penalty then producing a superb second-half brace. After scoring only five goals in a frustrating last season at Inter, Pazzini could not hide his joy.

“I think this ball will mean a lot to me,” he told Sky Sport Italia as he prepared to take the match ball home. “It was a difficult period for me recently but now I’m re-ally happy. Maybe it’s a sign, for me and the people who’ve stood behind me.

“The match was hard-fought but we came through to win. It can’t get any better.” Despite some lively transfer action in midweek Milan started with no less than 10 Italians on the pitch.

New arrivals Bojan Krkic of Spain and Dutchman Nigel De Jong started on the bench while Brazilian defender Roger de Carvalho went stright into Bologna’s starting line-up after signing from Genoa.

Bologna started in lively fashion but Milan’s enterprise and disci-

pline soon began to tell as they worked steadily towards breaking the deadlock. German-born Ghana-ian Prince Boateng was proving a handful for Bologna’s defence and twice won freekicks early on only to see both of his low drives go wide of Federico Agliardi’s goal. Moments later Milan got the break they’d been looking for.

Despite Pazzini delaying his chance to tumble under pressure from defender Nicolo Cherubin as he toiled down the left flank, the foul left the referee no option but to point to the penalty spot. Pazzini stepped up and made no mistake to score Milan’s first goal of the campaign in the 16th minute.

The goal stunned the hosts into action and Alessandro Diamanti coolly intercepted a pass from deep in his own half by Milan defender Mattia de Sciglio only to shoot wide.

The Bologna striker then showed great skill to skip past several Mi-lan players, dodging one tough tackle on his way towards goal but unleashing a shot which lacked power and allowed Abbiati to col-lect easily.

French midfielder Saphir Taider then wasted a great chance to level when he created time and space in the area with a nice feint, but he shot high and wide.

Bologna’s pressing finally paid off when Diamanti earned a penalty after coming down under pressure from Antonio Nocerino on the edge of the box and got back up to drive the ball past Abbiati from the spot.

“I wanted to thank you for my four years here. There are always great fans supporting a great club and Lyon will always need you,” Lloris told a packed crowd after striker Lisandro Lopez handed him a jersey saying ‘Thanks Hugo’ on the back. Lyon have 10 points from four games, one ahead of second-placed Olympique Marseille, while Valenciennes are fifth on seven points.

Playmaker Younes Belhanda in-spired Montpellier as they won 3-1 at bottom club Sochaux. Belhanda, playing in his 100th Ligue 1 game, scored the opener from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after be-ing fouled by centre back Yaya Banana.

Montpellier doubled their lead when striker Emanuel Herrera took advantage of confusion in the Sochaux

defence to tap the ball home on 59 minutes before Remy Cabella sealed victory. Sloan Privat was on target for the home team. Montpel-lier are 12th on four points while Sochaux have yet to get off the mark.

At the Stade Gerland, centre back Gil headed Valenciennes in front from a corner on 12 minutes but seven-times French champions Lyon hit back six minutes later. For-ward Michel Bastos fired the ball into an empty net after goalkeeper Nico- las Penneteau

blundered and B a f e t i m b i Gomis quickly

made it 2-1 from the penalty spot.

Lyon almost ex-tended their lead when Alexandre

Lacazette was nar-

rowly off target and Gomis also hit the post. The hosts finally added a third goal in the 66th minute thanks to Clement Grenier’s powerful shot from 25 metres.

Former Barcelona forward Lu-dovic Giuly shone as Lorient ham-mered Nancy 3-0 to move up to third on eight points. Giuly grabbed the opening goal and proved a constant menace for the Nancy defence.

St Etienne won 3-0 at Bastia while Toulouse were held to a disappointing 1-1 home draw by promoted Stade Reims. Marseille can reclaim top spot by beating Stade Rennes on Sunday while big-spending Paris St Germain will look for their first league win of the season at Lille.

Coach Markus Babbel has admitted he was left mystified after nine-man Hoffenheim were hammered 4-0 at home by Eintracht Frankfurt to leave them bottom of the Bundesliga. This was Hoffenheim’s third defeat in three competitive matches since suffering a shock 4-0 defeat at fourth-division minnows Berliner AK 07 in the German Cup a fortnight ago, then a 2-1 loss at Moenchengladbach last weekend.

Things went seriously array for Hoffenheim at their Rhein Neckar Arena on Saturday as both midfielder Sejad Salihovic and defender Stephan Schroeck were sent off in the second half for receiving second yellow cards. “I have no logical explana-tion,” admitted ex-Liverpool defender Babbel, who has coached VfB Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin.

“This performance is a mystery to me. This is definitely a bad start. “This is bitter for the guys, it has hurt us.”

Hoffenheim’s miserable afternoon took a turn for the worst when midfielder Alexander Meier scored Frankfurt’s opening goal on 39 minutes before captain Pirmin Schwegler added a second just before the interval.

Hoffenheim had midfielder Sejad Salihovic sent off on 70 minutes for two quick bookings, and Philippines defender Stephan Schroeck followed after he was shown his second yellow card three minutes later.

The hosts’ misery was compounded when Meier netted his second with a penalty on 83 minutes before Martin Lanig headed the fourth in the 90th minute. “After going 1-0 down, you could see the boys were shocked,” said the 39-year-old Babbel.

“I was very disturbed, because we didn’t then respond posi-tively, so we were 2-0 down at half-time. “During the break, I knew that it is difficult to change things around. “I tried to give us a fresh start with a few replacements, but the two sendings off threw that out of the window.”

A television channel chief and presenter denied calling for the murder of President Mohamed Morsi when his trial on incitement charges opened in the Egyptian capital on Saturday. “I merely criticised President Morsi,” Tawfiq Okasha told judges at the court appearance, an AFP journalist reported.

“This is a political trial. The Muslim Brotherhood wants to silence all dissent and reproduce the system from before the revolution,” he said.

(kmb27)

development of non-star hotel accommodation in Bali has been uncontrollable. Bali as a world tourist destination should have a quality tourist accommodation inspired by cultural tourism. “Bali requires five-star hotel.

Calendar Event for September 1 through October 14 ,

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon.

PHILADELPHIA — Jay-Z’s entrance said it all: He bounced up and down on top of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, mimicking Rocky before he took the stage in front of nearly 50,000. His song “Made In America” played in the background.

I Wayan Putra, the farmer group head of Batudawa Kaja right be-neath the Mount Agung protected forest on fire on Saturday (Sep 1) revealed that he and other residents had felt irritating to the eyes. Alleg-edly, the eye irritation was caused by smog accompanied with ashes of the forest fires on the mountains in the west of Batudawa Kaja settlement. The smog and ash were blown by strong winds and some

had reached the residential areas scattered at the foot of the moun-tain. “I think this eye irritation is only felt by me and excessive heat is unlike the usual heat in Kubu. It is hotter and I think it happens due to forest fire in the western area above our village. In fact, the other residents also feel the same,” said Putra.

He asked the Karangasem and Bali Government to pay attention

and take action promptly to put out the fire continuing to expand to protected forests. Apart from causing the residents anxious due to hot weather and eye irritation, it was a pity if the forest fire con-tinuously spread out. He estimated that thousands of hectares of for-est had burned out from the foot to the top of mountain. “If pos-sible, it will better to extinguish the fire by spraying water by a helicopter. Without such a serious effort, we think the fire cannot be extinguished, and we fear it will continue to expand. In dry season as today, everything has wilted or dried ranging from the grasses, shrubs, remaining leaves and twigs on the forest floor. Meanwhile, the

persistent strong winds make the fire continue to widespread. It is hard to extinguish the fire manu-ally by hitting with twigs because the terrain is difficult to achieve as almost the entire areas at mountain-top is steep,” he said.

Aside from attempting to ex-tinguish the fire at this time, the farmer group head also called for the government to disseminate continuously the important function of protected forests on the slopes of Mount Agung. The forest located on the barren slopes above the Abang, Kubu subdistrict to Ban vil-lage almost caught fire every year during dry season. Putra asked the government to socialize or make sustainable program to enhance the

public awareness around the forest and at the foot of Mount Agung so that no one would carelessly throw fire if they searched for honey bee, or deliberately burned shrubs, dry grasses and crop residues in their field. It was to prevent the forest fire happening again and again.

Putra did not quite believe if the hotspots of forest fires originated from the friction between the tree branches or twigs. He alleged it was kindled by fire remains of honey bee seekers or someone intention-ally burned the grasses and then the fire continued to spread out to the top because of strong winds constantly and strongly blew in this season.

Up to the second day on Saturday (Sep 1), the forest fire on Mount Agung still looked to expand. Hotspots have penetrated the southeastern to southern slopes of Mount Agung beneath the Kedampal Hilltop.
