WELCOME …

to EDEN HOUSE

(Fisherhead, Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby YO22 4ST)

If you need any help regarding Eden House please contact:

MIKE ASHER 07766 280 927

Have a lovely holiday!

We also have another (smaller) holiday cottage in RHB - just about as close to the sea as you can get. Please visit

www.downhillcottage.com for more details.

Car Parking: You can park your car outside the School House at Fisherhead for the time needed to unload only. Thereafter, you will need to go back up the hill to one of the two public car parks - one off the roundabout, the other one opposite the Grosvenor Hotel.

There are parking meters in both car parks but you can get a long-stay permit from the Post Office (situated on the road between the two car parks). The benefit here is that you can purchase a ‘3 days for 2’ ticket (ie £10 instead of £15) or a weekly ticket (£30 instead of £35).

Please note, your parking tickets can also be used at some car parks in Whitby, Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes, Scarborough and Filey (details on back of ticket) so if you are visiting along the coast it would be worthwhile. Both these car parks are free during the winter months.

Eden House does not have a parking permit for the car park at Fisherhead – we are on the waiting list. However, if demand allows it may still be possible to leave your car there (cost £5/night). Please enquire at the School House when you arrive – or telephone before you go (01947 880723).

Please be aware that you run the risk of being ‘clamped’ if you leave your car at Fisherhead without permission.

Central Heating: The central heating thermostat can be found on the landing on the first floor outside the ‘Butterfly’ bedroom - the ‘comfortable’ temperature in the House is usually around 22˚c.

Please turn the thermostat down to 5˚c at the end of your holiday.

Pets: Pets are NOT allowed at Eden House.

Bedding: Beds will be made up for the number of people staying at the house. We will ask for your preference before commencement of your holiday (ie doubles or twins). Bedding for the sofa bed can be can be found in the drawers under the single bed in the twin bedroom, next to the door.

Important Switches/Sockets: There is a switch in the Twin Bedroom (in the left hand wardrobe) which is for the TV aerial booster – please do not switch this socket off.

There is a ‘well’ under the floor of the dining room (we have put the ‘butterfly’ box there to cover the access to it – we know it looks a little ‘odd’!) A pump has been fitted to intermittently drain the well and the socket for the pump is on the wall next to the ‘butterfly’ box – please do not switch this socket off.

Rubbish Instructions for general/recycling waste can be found in the kitchen.

The large cream bin in the kitchen is for disposing of general waste before it goes into the green bin liner outside.

The cream box on the kitchen worktop (next to the back door) is for storing your recycled goods tidily before you put them in the blue bin liner outside.

There is a bottle bank at the top of the hill to dispose of your glass bottles.

There are waste chutes for excess household waste and recycling which can be found along Albion Road (the same road as the Fish Shop but further along on the right hand side).

Please ensure you place all bin liners/recycled goods from the house INSIDE the relevant coloured bin liners outside (green for general waste/blue for recycling waste). This is very important because the refuse collectors will only take away what is inside the green or blue sack!

Refuse Collection Day is Wednesday.

The Coal Fire: If you wish to enjoy a ‘real’ fire during your stay, coal is provided and can be found in the bunker outside the back door.

Please use the fireguard at all times.

If possible do not leave the fire unattended, and take care when disposing of the ash (a metal bucket is provided at the back of the house for hot ashes to cool).

Telephones/Internet: Please note Eden House has WI FI access and the code can be found in the cupboard opposite the breakfast bar (above the TV). Please be aware, however, that due to the thickness of the walls in Eden House coverage may not reach all the rooms.

You may find your mobile phone reception is poor in Robin Hoods Bay and the surrounding area, although the O2 network appears to have good coverage (and possibly Orange).

Places to Visit /Maps/Menus:

Information, brochures and maps can be found in Eden House – we would kindly ask that you leave all the literature for the next visitors to enjoy – thank you. Please feel free to add to the collection!

Games/DVD’s:

There is an assortment of games and dvd’s about the house – please feel free to make use of them but make sure everything is put back for the next visitors to enjoy.

Before you go Home:

Please turn the Central Heating thermostat down to 5˚c.

Please leave your comments/feedback in the Visitors Book – we value your opinion and would like to improve wherever we can!
