Dear Sir:I am interested in partaking in the selection process
for Thurston County Commissioner, District #3.

(1) WHY I WANT TO SERVE AS COUNTY COMMISSIONER. Serving as a
county commissioner isan opportunity to serve the community in a
role that will help determine the quality of life, safety of
individuals and livability of people throughout Thurston County.
How the county is administered nowwill reflect how we live for many
years to come.
(2) WHAT I BELIEVE MAKES ME QUALIFIED TO FILL THIS VACANCY. I
have spent many yearsserving the people of various locations, both
where I was stationed while in the Washington Statepatrol, and
during the past 15 years while being the Police Chief in Kent,
Washington. I understandthe uniqueness of communities and what is
required to make a community functional,well-governed and a place
that people enjoy living.
I have a graduate degree in Public Administration from Eastern
Washington University and a JurisDoctorate from the University of
Puget Sound School of Law. I am a member of the Washington
State Bar Association. I have served with honor on numerous
boards and commissions and havebeen involved in numerous community
service volunteer activities. I know what it takes to havegood,
safe, and strong communities.
I am a long-time property owner in Thurston County.
(3) HOW I AM PREPARED TO STAND FOR ELECTION IN 2009 AND THEN
AGAIN IN 2010. I amprepared to stand for election in 2009 and
20010. In 2006 I had the opportunity to run for the StateSenate
seat in the 47th District. While I lost, I learned the benefits of
running a strong campaign. Ilearned how to garner support and
endorsements and raise campaign funds. During the 4 monthsof my
campaign I door-belled over 4,000 residences. I am prepared to
campaign.
(4) WHAT I INTEND TO ACCOMPLISH DURING MY TERM AS COUNTY
COMMISSIONER. Iintend to be a county commissioner who stands for
open government and honesty. I have a visionfor the community that
fosters a place where people want to live, raise their families,
and are proudthat they are residents of Thurston County.
