1. OBJECT

This Standard is intended to cover the minimum requirements for centrifugal pumps according to ANSI/ASME B73.1-2001 R (1999), “Specification for Horizontal End Suction Centrifugal Pumps for Chemical Process”. This specificationis part of the project for ECOPETROL S.A.

2. SCOPE

The numerical identification of section and paragraphs of this specification are the same as in ANSI/ASME B73.1.Vendor shall comply and use this specification together with the standard ANSI/ASME B73.1 for preparing hisproposal in conjunction with information given in the order and/or data sheets.

Compliance with this specification and/or any other information given does not relieve the pump vendor to provideequipment suitable for heavy and continuous duty and for the specific conditions.

The specific requirements for each system shall be as stated in the Material Requisition, which takes precedence overthis specification. Vendor’s quotation shall list all deviations to this specification and requirements contained in theMaterial Requisition. Alternative designs to that specified in the Material Requisition and this specification may beproposed in addition to a fully compliant bid, if there is significant process, price, delivery date advantage or a systemwith improved life cycle value is offered with demonstrable successful field experience.

Compliance with this standard does not relieve the manufacturer or the vendor of the responsibility for furnishingequipment of proper design and construction and fully suitable for all specified operating conditions.

In case of conflict between this specification and inquiry or purchase order, the order of precedence shall be used forresolving conflicts:

1) Local governmental and statutory regulations and laws

2) Purchase order or inquiry3) Project Data Sheets and Drawings4) This specification5) Referenced documents, codes and industry standards

In the event of conflict between documents, the manufacturer shall notify the purchaser in writing of any conflict(s) forresolution.

Vendor furnished data, drawings and documents shall be furnished in the “English language” during execution of t hepurchase order. Installation, operation and maintenance manuals shall be issued in both the “Spanish language” . ThisSpecification specifies requirements and gives recommendations for centrifugal pumps.

This Specification shall be used in conjunction with data/requisition sheet ECP-VST-P-MER-HD-003

3. GLOSARY

For the purposes of this TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION the following definitions shall apply:

The Contractor  is the party which carries out all or part of the design, engineering, procurement, installation, andcommissioning or management of a project or operation of a facility. The Principal may sometimes undertake all orpart of the duties of the Contractor.

Unless otherwise, the distribution of this Specification is confined to ECOPETROL S.A and, where necessary, toContractors and Manufacturers/Suppliers nominated by them.

This Specification is intended for use in oil refineries, gas plants, chemical plants, oil and gas production facilities andpump station.

When Specifications are applied, a Management of Change (MOC) process should be implemented; this is ofparticular importance when existing facilities are to be modified.

If national and/or local regulations exist in which some of the requirements may be more stringent than in this

Specification, the Contractor shall determine by careful scrutiny which of the requirements are the more stringent andwhich combination of requirements will be acceptable with regards to the safety, environmental, economic and legalaspects. In all cases the Contractor shall inform the Principal of any deviation from the requirements of thisSpecification which is considered to be necessary in order to comply with national and/or local regulations. ThePrincipal may then negotiate with the Authorities concerned, the objective being to obtain agreement to follow thisSpecification as closely as possible.

4.6.8 (Addition) Mechanical seals shall be designed and manufactured according to API Standard 682, assuring thatthe seal will have been type tested.

4.6.9 (Addition) Mechanical seals shall comply with the requirements API 682 3rd

 edition, table 1. API 682 3rd

edition, table 2 is rejected and not acceptable. The basic API seal compliance requires cartridge seals. Hooked sleeves arenot considered to be a cartridge design.

4.13 (Addition) The pump vendor shall coordinate the design, and ensure the satisfactory functioning of the complete

unit, i.e. pump, driver, transmission, seals and other ancillaries. In cases where the pump vendor supplies equipmentthat he has not manufactured, he shall ensure that the designs of these are compatible with each other and with hisown equipment in all respects. In particular, they shall be compatible dimensionally, in performance, in control and invibration such that a fully integrated unit is achieved.

The satisfactory functioning of the complete unit shall form part of the pump vendor's guarantee.

4.14 (Addition) The size of the selected impeller shall comply with the following requirements:

a. Pumps with constant speed drivers shall have impeller diameters such that at least 10% increase in head at thisrated capacity can be obtained by installing a large diameter impeller of the same pattern. A 5% increase in head isacceptable for multi-stage pumps.

b. The size of the selected impeller cannot be the maximum or the minimum designed for the casing.

c. Impeller reduction below 80% of maximum diameter is not acceptable. Impeller reduction is an index relating the designdiameter (rated flow) and the maximum diameter of the impeller.

4.15 (Addition) The margin between NPSHr water basis and NPSHa shall be at least 3 ft, from the minimumcontinuous stable flow up to and including the rated capacity of the pump.

4.16 (Addition) Suction specific speeds (Nss) above 11000 require the Purchaser's approval. Lower values of Nssshall be always a reason for preference.

NOTE: The units in the formula used to calculate the above value of suction specific speed are as follows:

  Flow rate in gpm

  Rotational speed in revolutions per minute;

  NPSH in feet

4.17 (Addition) Sound levels shall provide both maximum sound pressure and sound power level data per octave bandfor the equipment.

4.18 (Addition) Pumps, drivers and accessories shall be designed for outdoor, unprotected installation in the corrosiveand tropical environmental conditions without any additional protection unless otherwise specified.

SECTION 5 – GENERAL INFORMATION

5.1 Application

5.1.9 (Addition) The vendor shall operate a quality management system to ensure that the technical requirements areachieved. The vendor's quality system should be based on the appropriate part of ISO 9001. The vendor shall ensure

that QA requirements specified in the enquiry and purchase documents are applied to all materials, equipment andservices provided. All materials, equipment and engineering works will be subject to ECOPETROL and/or his representative inspection.Inspectors will have free access to manufacturer and subcontractors shops.

5.1.10 (Addition) All NDT procedures shall be subject to approval and shall form an integral part of the manufacturer’sQA documentation. Pressure containing castings shall be inspected depending of the pressure / temperature factors, and shall be liquid penetrating or magnetic particle tested.

5.1.11 (Addition) Visual Inspection shall be performed in accordance with ASME V, Article 9. All surfaces shall beinspected. Acceptance criteria for pressure-containing steel castings shall be in accordance with MSS SP-55.
