Edmund Burke (1729-1797) was an Irish philosopher, statesman and political theorist.His famous treatise on aesthetics A philosophical enquiry into the origin of our ideas of the Sublimeand Beautiful …, first published in 1757, attracted the attention of such prominent continental thinkersas Denis Diderot and Immanuel Kant. It was his only purely philosophical work.

First edition, rare. Canard was one of the first authors to use mathematical techniques in economics. Hiswork was crowned by the French Academy which made it an object of great controversy. Cournot andWalras (who both failed to be honored) denied the uniqueness of Canard’s work. Nevertheless it hadquite an influence, especially outside France. The work went through three editions in German, and itwas also published in Spanish and Italian. The Abrégé was first published in the Ephémérides duCitoyen , and was separately printed and seen through by Dupont de Nemours in 1772. It forms acommendable résumé of the physiocratic doctrine. First edition of Cassirer’s last work. Prof. Cassirer who exiled from Germany in 1933, is regarded asone of the foremost philosophers of his time. He has taught at the universities of Berlin, Hamburg,Oxford, Gothenburg, Yale and Columbia. In his last book he has been able to bring together the greatresources of learning and insight that accumulated over a long lifetime, and to examine one of thecentral problems of modern man. First edition. Condorcet (1743-1794) was a French mathematician and philosopher. With many of hisfellow encyclopédistes he shared the conviction that social sciences are amenable to mathematicalrigour. His pioneer work on elections is a major step in that direction. She became renowned with her bookThe School of Salamanca which appeared in 1952. This study drew attention to the work of theSpanish Doctors and ensured them general recognition. The present work further explores the courseof economic thought in Spain from 1177 to 1740. It proves essential reading for economistsspecialising in the history of economic analysis and ideas.

He studied economics under the tutelage of his father Amasa Walker and became achief figure of the discipline (Blaug, Who’s who in economics, pp. 863-64). Nicolas Oresme, bishop of Lisieux (died 1382) wrotefor his pupil Charles V the treatise De origine, natura, jure et mutationibus monetarum in which hedeveloped the theory of money in a clear and simple way. He clearly condemned the debasement ofmoney. His view fell into oblivion until W. Roscher’s lecture Ein großer Nationalökonom des 14.Jahrhunderts. Around 1526 the famous astronomer Nicolas Copernic wrote his little treatise Demonetae cudendae ratione on the demand of Sigismond I, King of Poland.
