We must not orget that one o theage-old temptations is to distrust God,and to trust only ourselves or humanworks. Yesterday we thought thatreaching out our hand to gather up theorbidden ruit was enough to becomelike God, and today we place excessivetrust in science and technology; and westill haven't understood that in Godalone can our problems be resolved.

We have yet to understand that Loveis the only orce - or clean energy i youwill - without contraindications, becauseit is ruit o the Holy Spirit!

InHim we are raised up and made childrenin the Son, Jesus Christ.

prayerare strong points in her messages."Day after day I sow and I call you toconversion," Our Lady tells us, whilepointing out that we are being calledto a state o lie, not to a bureaucraticcommitment: "hat you may be prayer,peace, love and the wheat grain ..."

Fasting, prayer and the Sacramentsare useul means - even necessary means- or our salvation, but their action isnot automatic. heir efficacy dependson the way in which we practisethem.In St. Luke's Gospel (Lk 13:22-30), rom

today's Reading, this concept is clear. Itis not enough to have eaten at the Lord'stable to be able to go through the narrowdoor. Nor can the Baptismal certiicateguarantee our salvation.

I prayer is only lip service, while theheart is elsewhere, how can it produceconversion? he risk is that we approachsuperstition rather than aith.

he conversion to which we arecalled goes beyond the surace, andreaches into the heart to transorm it.We are being called to be born anew.

Unless one is born of water and theSpirit, he cannot enter the kingdom ofGod(Jn 3:3).

So let us take Mary's call seriously,and be a sign or others. his meansallowing onesel to be transormed soas to become witnesses.

XXVIII World Youth Day

With the WYD RIO theme, "Go andmake Disciples of all Nations!"(c. Mt 28:19),Pope Francis desired that each o the youngpersons present at the WYD elt calledpersonally. Following is an excerpt o whathe told the youth:

"Dear young people, the Lord is callingyou today! Not you, the crowd; but you,and you, and you ... each o you singularly.Listen in your heart to that which he has tosay to you... Being a disciple means knowingthat we are God's Field o Faith. So I havethought o three images that can help usbetter understand what it means to be amissionary disciple.

- the first image: a field for sowing:When we accept the Word o God then weare the Field o Faith! Please, let Christ andhis Word into your lives! Let the seed oGod's Word in! Let it sprout! Let it grow!

God does it all, but you [need to] allow itsaction; let Him work or this growth.

- the second: a field for training: theLord Jesus asks us to "play in his team". Whatdoes a player do when he is called to be parto a team? He has to train, and he has to trainvery hard. Such is our lie as disciples o theLord. What Jesus offers us is somethinggreater than the World Cup! Jesus offers usthe possibility or a ertile lie, a happy lie ...in eternal lie. However, he asks us to pay theentry ticket. Te price is training to become"fit" so we can ace without ear all lie'ssituations and witness our aith, throughdialogue with Him, which is called prayer.

I want to ask you - but respond in yourheart, in silence: Do I pray? Each o yourespond. Do I talk to Jesus, or am I araid osilence? Do I allow the Holy Spirit to speakin my heart? Do I ask Jesus what He wantsme to do; what He wants o my lie? Tis istraining.

- the third: a field for building: Yourheart, dear young person, wants to buildup a better world. Please, do not allow thatothers be the protagonists o the change!You are the ones who have a uture! You! It

is through you that the uture o the worldis ushered in. It is to you that I ask: be theprotagonists o this change. Continue toovercome the apathy, and offer a Christianresponse to the social and political unrest. Iask you to be builders o the world, to workor a better world.

Dear Young People, please, do notlook upon life from the balcony! Trustyourselves into it. Jesus didn't remain onthe balcony; he immersed himsel into it.Immerse yourselves into lie too, as Jesusdid! Tere is still a question though. Whereto begin? Once Mother eresa was asked the

same question. She responded: 'From me androm you!'. She was a courageous woman! Sothis evening I say to you: Shall we begin? androm where? Te answer is: From me androm you!

Dear friends, do not forget: You arethe field of faith! You are Christ's athletes!

Life, however, is made up also ofcrosses, and on Friday evening at the VIACRUCIS, the Pope spoke o the encounterbetween Jesus and Peter who was escapingrom Rome (escaping rom the cross). "Lord,where are you going?", asked Peter. And theLord responded: "I am going to Rome to becrucified again." And Peter understood thathe had to ollow the Lord with courage, to theend. He also understood, in particular, thathe was never alone in the journey. Tat Jesusthat he had loved was always by his side!

So you see how Jesus journeys on ourpath and takes upon himsel our ears,problems and suffering, even the deepesto them. Trough the Cross, Jesus unites tohimsel all the people who suffer... He unitesto himsel al l the youth, those who have lost

trust in political institutions because theysee the egoism and corruption, and whohave lost aith in the Church and even inGod, due to the incoherence o Christiansand ministers o the Gospel.

How Jesus suffers for our incoherence!Te Cross o Christ is made up o sufferingand o man's sin - even our own! - and Heopens up his arms to take it al l upon himsel.And he says to us: "ake courage! You arenot alone in carrying your cross! I carry itwith you, and I have deeated death, and Ihave come to give you hope, to give you lie(c. Jn 3:16)". (Editorial Staff)

Pope Francis and theMessage of the Queen of Peace

Te Pope's Angelus message o the1st September moved hearts and "sleepyconsciences" (c. homily 7 Sept.) omillions o people o every creed andreligion. Te Pope unveiled the "shameulace o Satan" which is cleverly hiddenbehind the screen o Media lies used tohide personal gain.

It is deception o the ather o lies when

we "have sharpened our ideas to justiyourselves. (And) as i it were normal, wecontinue to sow destruction, pain, death!"(Holy Father, 7 Sept.).

At the conclusion of the AngelustheHoly Father said, "Hence ... I have decidedto announce a day o asting and prayer

or peace in Syria, the Middle East, andthe entire world [it was the 7th Sept.]. Healso said, "We ask Mary's help so we canrespond to violence, conflict and war withthe strength o dialogue, reconciliationand love. She is Mother. May she helpus to find peace! We are all her children!Mary, Queen o Peace, pray or us!".

Te connection seems obviousbetween the words by Pope Francis and

the undamental message o Our Ladywho presented hersel at Medjugorje asQueen o Peace (26.06.1981) and whocame to say, "Peace! Peace! Peace! Bereconciled! o do this, you must believe,pray, ast and coness...". On anotheroccasion Our Lady said: "I call you to prayand ast or peace in the world. You haveorgotten that with prayer and asting it ispossible to stop even wars, and to suspendeven natural laws" (21.07.1982). In 2003Our Lady said: "Also today I call you topray and ast or peace. I have already toldyou, and I repeat it again my children, that

with just prayer and asting it is possibleto stop wars. Peace is a precious gif romGod. Seek it; ask and you will receive ..."(25.02.2003).

We are convinced that thesecoincidences have not come by chance, butthat they belong to the proound essenceo grace at Medjugorje. Tis is the firsttime in the history o Marian apparitionsthat Our Lady has addressed an entireportion o the Church, rather than a ewchosen people. "I have chosen this parishespecially, and it is my desire to lead it.

With love I protect it and I desire thatall belong to me..." (01.03.1984). "I desiretelling you that I have chosen this parishand that I hold it in my hands like a flowerthat does not want to die" (01.08.1985).

Mary, who alone "attained perfection,making her the spotless bride" (c. Eph5:27), (c. LG 65), is sent by the Father:"By her maternal charity, she cares or thebrethren o her Son, who still journey onearth surrounded by dangers and worry,until they are led into the happiness otheir true home." (LG 62). Tereore, in

these apparitions at Medjugorje "whichare the last or humanity" (message17.04.1982), the grace o Mary's presenceis offered above all to the Church;and the Church, through her variousdimensions (institutional, sacramentaland charismatic), continually makesJesus Christ Saviour alive and presentin the world: "or there is no other nameunder heaven given to mankind by whichwe must be saved" (c. Acts 4:12).

Te above concordance between themessages o Medjugorje and the Pope'sreflections are a consoling sign o the

ulfilment o the great plan o salvationthat the Father is working or the good ohis children through the proclamation othe triumph o the Immaculate Heart. AtMedjugorje Our Lady said, in act: "Onlythrough my shepherds will my Hearttriumph!" (02.09.2013).

3Consecrate Yourselves to myImmaculate Heart

More than once Our Lady has askedthat we be consecrated to her ImmaculateHeart, including the solemn orm o Fatimawhich was addressed to the Pope (Tetime has come in which God asks the HolyFather to perorm the consecration - 13June 1929), to the many and requent callsincluded in the messages o Medjugorje.

In this Year of the Faith (11-X-2012- 24-XI-2013) this request appears evenmore intense because the Pope will againrenew the act o consecration next October13th. Te gesture belongs to a traditionthat is almost a century old. It started withthe first request by Our Lady at Fatima onthe 13th July 1917.

Pius XII tried to fulfil the requestin1942, as did Paul VI in 1964 during theSecond Vatican Council. However, it wasJohn Paul II who did ulfil it accordingto the requested orm, on 25th March

1984. He also renewed it in 1991 duringhis second pilgrimage to Fatima, and in2000 during the Jubilee o Bishops. WhenBenedict XVI went to Fatima, he made aspecial act o consecration to Mary; duringthe Year o the Priests (12th May 2010).Tis particular gesture had a more amplemeaning since the Pope explicitly said hemeant it to also imply that the propheticmission o Fatima was not over.

Te prophetic mission consists inspeaking in God's name, proclaiming hiscalls, battling or the recognition o hisrights and communicating his salvific

will. Tis prophetic mission continueswith great evidence in Medjugorje; and inMarian apparitions it is in act inherent -as explained by many popes (Pius IX, PiusX, John Paul II), saints (J.H. Newman,John Bosco, St. Maximilian Kolbe) andtheologians (Von Balthasar, Rahner) -that they represent a new phase in historystarting rom the great sign o Lourdes inthe mid nineteenth century. Tis is to sowthis truth into the hearts o a ll men.

Pope Francis, too, carries forth thegreat Marian tradition, and on the 13thMay he asked the Bishops o Portugal to

join him as he consecrated his pontificateto the Blessed Virgin. From the timewhen Mary received rom Jesus the tasko leading us as Mother (Jn 19:26-27),there has never been an interruptionto that historical line that has alwaysaccompanied and sustained the Churchespecially in circumstances and situationsthat have been particularly difficult. Whenthe Church is united to Mary, as it was atPentecost, the Church experiences theullness o the power o the Holy Spirit.

Te particular Marian festivity,entitled "Blessed are You or Believing,"begins 12th October with a pilgrimageearly in the morning to the tomb o St.Peter, and then during the morning withEucharistic Adoration and conession insome o the churches close to St. Peter'sSquare. At 5 pm the original statue o OurLady o Fatima will reach St. Peter's and

here there willbe a celebrationwith a Mariancatechesis. Afer7 pm the statuewill be placedin the Shrineo Divine Love

or the prayer othe Rosary, inconnection withthe big Marianshrines aroundthe world. At 10 pm there will be a prayer

vigil.On Sunday 13th, the statue will be

once again in St. Peter's or the Rosary at10 am and Holy Mass at 10.30 am, withPope Francis presiding, and afer whichhe will consecrate the world to Mary'sImmaculate Heart. Tose who have"responded to her call"and are thus parto Mary's spiritual amily, clearly rejoice atthis event as they also eel responsibilityand gratitude to God or this church eventwhich ought to be lived with a sense ounity and communion with the Pope'sintentions: that we pray or all peoples thatthey journey in the direction indicated byOur Lady: My desire, my mission here isthe unity o God's amily (Medjugorje, 2Feb. 2011).

XXIV International Youth FestivalTe Youth Festival, held in Medjugorje

rom the 1-6 August, concluded with aHoly Mass o thanksgiving atop Krievacat the break o dawn on the Feast day othe ransfiguration. Tousands o youthwere present, many o whom had spent thenight singing and praying on the mountain

around the Cross which is a place o grace.We know this because Mary hersel said,"I am ofen on the mount, at the oot othe cross, praying(Mess. 3 Nov. 1981).

During the estival there were numerousand moving testimonies o extraordinaryspiritual graces and wonderul worksthat God is accomplishing today amidhis people through the intercession o theQueen o Peace. Amongst others, there wasthe witness by Fr. Michael, ormer ootballplayer rom the US, who had been a victimo the various idols and prevailing demonso our times (drugs etc.) and who had

come to Medjugorje or the sole purposeo keeping his mother happy. Yet, it wasthen and here that he ound his priestly

vocation!Mary is preparing her new people,

LOVE ALONE IS RUH

his message vibrates with the anxiety,but also the strength and the hope o amother who is set on saving her children,but who knows that to do so she needstheir consent, or each person's reedomis guaranteed by God. We are called toholiness and communion with Christ, yet,rather than tread the Way, we chase aternew ways, and like those who preceded us,we lose the Way! Mary has come to tell usthat Love is the only truth!

Beore the rampant relativism o today,this message conirms that there is onlyone ruth, and that ruth is Love which isidentified in the Person of Jesus Christ,true God and true man.

"Everyone on theside of truth listens to me,"Jesus told Pilate(Jn 18:33-38), but he had not understood.

We too are oten closed within ourselvesand are unable to see or understand thegood News. Perhaps we seek out what ismore striking and in doing so we run therisk o looking in places where He is not,or to believe in any whatsoever personwho says "He is here, He is there".

Jesus is the Way, the ruth and theLife. I only we had the desire to open ourhearts with total trust to receive this truth,then we would know how much we are

loved by our blessed Mother whose desireis that we have the peace o her Son. Allthe same, we are called to persevere inprayer, because through prayer our aithgrows and love is born enabling us to seehow even the cross is no longer unbearablebecause we will no longer be carrying italone. N.Q.

Conversion, Faith, Eternal Life

Mary calls us to work on our personalconversion, since we are still ar romencountering God in our hearts. It ispossible to receive Jesus in the Eucharistdaily, but our encounter with Him couldstill be cold and superficial, leaving ourhearts unchanged. Mary's suggestion isthat we pass as much time as possible inprayer and in adoration o Jesus in the MostBlessed Sacrament, so He can change usand place in our hearts a living aith and

the desire or eternal lie.Says John Paul II: "Te worship o

the Eucharist outside o the Mass is oinestimable value or the lie o the Church...Te Eucharist is a priceless treasure: bynot only celebrating it but also by prayingbeore it outside o Mass we are enabled tomake contact with the very wellspring ograce." (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no. 25).

Conversion, faith and eternal lifemeannothing to those who do not believe. Butor those who do believe, at least in God'sexistence, they are means that lead to Him.
