    Message o 25 July 2012:

Dear Children, oday I call you tothe 'good'. Be bearers o peace andgoodness in this world. Pray that Godmay give you the strength so that hopeand boldness may always reign in yourheart and lie, since you are God'schildren and bearers o His hope to thisworld which has neither joy in its heart, nor uture, since its heart is not open toGod, your salvation. hank you orresponding to my call.

God's Children and Bearerso His Hope

War, hunger, violence, systematicexploitation o human beings and nature, sacriiced to the god o consumerism: stuo every day we might say; crimes that bynow don't even make news. Yet, manreuses to acknowledge his intrinsicinability to solve the great problems oexistence, and continues to proceed alongways that are inexorably closed, as he vainlysearches or the way o lie in the maze o a

world that has closed itsel to Lie.Forgetting that we are made in theimage o God; that we are called to bechildren o God, can only lead to alienationand a reduction o lie to the biological oranimal state. However, acknowledging thatwe are made in the image o God or that weare God's children, is not suicient i we donot also live - or at least try to live - as such.his is the essence o the Medjugorjemessage, and it is perectly in line with theGospel and Church teaching.

Man is inseparable rom God. Onceman acknowledges this, he can set out on

the way o peace, joy and hope. Jesus is Godwho came amongst men, and every man iscalled to accept him as the Son o God, orit is only in Him that man can be ulilled, and is able to realize the good prepared byGod or him and or the world. his is thetrue essence o man. Only to acknowledge itand accept the consequences would suice. All the rest is trimmings.

he task that Mary entrusts us with iso paramount importance and involves allour aculties: bodily and spiritually; becauseShe isn't asking us to "do", but to "be". Wemust be authentic Christians who live by

and are surrendered to Christ, till He livesin us. Only then, can we serve as bearers opeace and goodness in this world. hesame goes or all men, no matter his tongue, race or nation. Every member o the humanrace is called to bear God to others, becauseevery man is created in His image! Peaceand joy in Jesus and Mary.

Hope Will Give Birth to Joy

Our Blessed Mother calls us yet againto look at nature to be inspired to live andgrow in God's plan, which doesn't regardmankind generally, but every single person, whatever his race, culture, colour ...

God came into the world to saveeveryone. For this he assumed our humannature; or this He became a man! Nospecial skills are required. Just open yourheart to Him! Allow Him to enter, topuriy it and abide in it. All this is at the

same time both within and not within ourreach. It isn't so much a question o one'sphysical abilities or scientiic and technicalknowledge. But neither is it an unattainablemirage. It does take, instead, our consentand a living desire to receive God's Spiritwhich raises us up; it takes our Yes to HisProject o Lie.

No one and nothing can prevent thismiracle o Love; nothing but our ownreedom to reject it. oday, as then, manis ree to choose to accept or cruciy Jesus.his is true or me, or you, or everyone. And whether priest or lay person, the risk

is the same. Yet, perhaps a priest is moreat risk because o the greatness o the taskto which he is called (is this not the reasonOur Lady asks us every 2nd o the monthto pray or them?).

We are the arbiters o our own lives, and to a certain degree, even o others'lives; and this responsibility is marvellousand grave at the same time. But we are notlet to ourselves! God is with us; the angelsand the saints assist us. However, ours isthe decision in the end.

Decide or God, Our Lady has explicitysaid a number o times. oday she is

repeating it in substance when she calls usto Love, to conversion, to holiness and tohope. "oday", a metaphor or the Lord'sday; the day we all await so that He maywipe away our tears, so our eyes may relectHis Light and His Love.

Encounter with Christ is Centreo Existence

o the crowd that asks: What must wedo, to be doing the works of God? (Jn 6:28),Jesus says: Tis is the work of God, that youbelieve in him whom he has sent (v. 29).

Te centre o existence - that whichgives meaning and certain hope in the all-

too-oen dicult journey o lie - is aithin Jesus, it is the encounter with Christ. Wealso ask: What must we do to have eternallie?, and Jesus replies: Believe in me.Faith is the undamental thing. It is not amatter here o ollowing an idea or a project, but o encountering Jesus as a living Person,o letting ourselves be totally involved byhim and by his Gospel. Jesus invites us notto stop at the purely human horizon and toopen ourselves to the horizon o God, to thehorizon o aith. He demands but a singleact: to accept Gods plan, namely, to believein him whom he has sent (v. 29). Moses hadgiven Israel manna, the bread rom heaven

with which God himsel had nourished hispeople. Jesus does not give something, hegives himsel: He is the true bread whichcomes down rom heaven. He is the livingWord o the Father; in the encounter withhim we meet the living God.

What must we do, to be doing theworks o God?(v. 28) asks the crowd, readyto act in order to perpetuate the miracle othe loaves. But Jesus, the true bread o liethat satisfes our hunger or meaning andor truth, cannot be earned with humanwork; he comes to us only as a gi o Godslove, as a work o God to be asked or andreceived. Ephphatha!

At the centre o todays Gospel (Mk 7:31-37), there is a small but very importantword. A word that, in its deepest sense, sums up Christs whole message and allhis work. Te Evangelist Mark records thisword in the very language o Jesus in whichJesus spoke it so that we may hear it evenmore vividly. Te word is Ephphatha, which means be opened.

Let us look at the context in which it isused. Jesus was crossing the region knownas Decapolis, between the coast o yreand Sidon and Galilee, hence an area thatwas not Jewish. Tey brought him a dea-mute to be healed - evidently the Lord's

ame had spread that ar. Jesus took himaside and touched his ears and his tongueand then, looking up to heaven, said witha deep sigh: Ephphatha which means beopened. Ten the man immediately beganto hear and to speak plainly (c. Mk 7:35).

Tis, thereore is the historical andliteral meaning o this word: thanks toJesus intervention, the dea-mute was

opened; previously he had been closed, isolated, it had been very dicult or himto communicate.

For him, healing meant an openingto others and to the world, an openingwhich, starting with the organs o hearingand speech, involved his whole sel and hislie: he could at last communicate and thusrelate in a new way.

However, we all know that a personsclosure and isolation do not only dependon the sense organs. Tere is an innerclosure that afects the persons inmostsel, which the Bible calls the heart.

It is this that Jesus came to open, toliberate, so as to enable us to live to theull our relationship with God and withothers.

Tis is why I said that this small word, ephphatha be opened, sums up in itselChrists entire mission. He was made manso that man, rendered inwardly dea andmute by sin, might be able to hear Gods

voice, the voice o Love that speaks to hisheart, and thus in his turn learn to speakthe language o love, to communicate withGod and with others.

11 October 2012 marks the beginning of theYear of the Faith declared by B.XVI. It ends 24Nov. 2013. The initial date coincides with the 50thanniversary of the opening of Vatican Council II,and with the 20th anniversary of the publicaton ofthe Catechism of the Catholic Church. The letter,Porta fidei, presents basic indications accordingto which the Church shall live this special year.

POPE BENEDIC XVI's desire is thatthe faithful rediscover "the journey of faith"and "the joy and renewed enthusiasm of the

encounter with Christ" [2]: "It often happensthat Christians are more concerned for thesocial, cultural and political consequencesof their commitment, continuing to thinkof the faith as a self-evident presuppositionfor life in society. In reality, not only canthis presupposition no longer be taken forgranted, but it is often openly denied.

Whereas in the past it was possible torecognize a unitary cultural matrix, broadlyaccepted in its appeal to the content of thefaith and the values inspired by it, today thisno longer seems to be the case in large swathesof society, because of a profound crisis offaith that has affected many people." [2]

Thus: "We must rediscover a taste forfeeding ourselves on the word of God ,faithfully handed down by the Church, andon the bread of life, offered as sustenancefor his disciples (cf. Jn 6:51). Indeed, theteaching of Jesus still resounds in our daywith the same power: 'Do not labour for thefood which perishes, but for the food which

endures to eternal life' (Jn 6:27)."A deeper study of the Word of God,

the Eucharist and Church teachingswill accompany the witness of the faith, because faith grows, "when it is lived as anexperience of love received and when it iscommunicated as an experience of graceand joy. It makes us fruitful, because itexpands our hearts in hope and enables usto bear life-giving witness: indeed, it opensthe hearts and minds of those who listen to

respond to the Lords invitation to adhere tohis word and become his disciples. (...)Only through believingdoes faith grow

and become stronger; there is no otherway for possessing certitude with regard toones life apart from self-abandonment, ina continuous crescendo, into the hands of alove that seems to grow constantly because ithas its origin in God." [7]

One of the aims of the Year of the Faithis to offer the opportunity to intensify thewitness of charity: "Faith without charitybears no fruit, while charity without faithwould be a sentiment constantly at the mercyof doubt. Faith and charity each require the

other, in a way that each allows the other toset out along its respective path." [14]

The path sketched out by the Holy Fatheralso wants to help us understand the "act bywhich we choose to entrust ourselves fullyto God, in complete freedom." Citing StPaul who refers to his encounter with Lydia:'The Lord opened her heart to give heed to

what was said by Paul' (Acts 16:14), we learn:"There is an important meaning containedwithin this expression. Saint Luke teachesthat knowing the content to be believed isnot sufficient unless the heart, the authenticsacred space within the person, is openedby grace that allows the eyes to see belowthe surface and to understand that what hasbeen proclaimed is the word of God." [10]

This is where we find the mostsignificant point of contact with Our Lady's

teaching given through the Messages atMedjugorje. The journey of the faith, morethan acquiring on an intelligent level thecontents to believe, requires an open heart. These years of messages received have taughtus in many ways the fundamental truth ofChristian life. "Today I desire urging you toopen your heart to God, just as flowers openup to the sun in spring" (31-01-1985). "Openyourselves to God and give over to Him allyour difficulties and crosses so that He maytransform everything into joy. My children, you cannot open up to God unless you pray"(25-07-1995). "I call you all to open yourhearts up to God's love which is so great and

open for each of you. For the love of man,God sent me into your midst to show youthe way of salvation" (25-04-1995). "Allowme, my children, to lead you. Open yourhearts to the Holy Spirit so that all the goodthat is in you may flourish and bear fruit ahundredfold" (25-07-2011).

    MEDJUGORJE

In the Sign o the Cross!byGiuseppe Ferraro

We have always been cautious beore themaniestion o signs, which at Medjugorjehave however abounded. Tey are a sureexpression o God's love, but at times - dueto man's weakness and limits - it happens

that the signs themselves end up occupyingthe place which belongs only to God.

Nonetheless, the great cross o light thatappeared in the evening skyat Medjugorjeon the eastday o the Assumption o theBlessed Virgin Mary, during the celebrationo Mass, speaks to us o spiritual truths thatneed to be recalled. As a matter o act, thecross expresses the spiritual core o Mary'smessage and call at Medjugorje, and theultime signifcance o Her presence in ourmidst.

Christ's Paschal Mystery, which isbeautiully summed up in the sign o the

glorious Cross, is at the very heart o ouraith. Mary unceasingly calls us, as baptizedaithul and her children, to live the mysteryo the Cross and Resurrection in unionwith her Son. "Jesus bore the Cross or thesake o the whole world, and He was ull o

peace and love. He rose and ascended intoheaven. So, my children, carry the crosswith love! Te cross is salvation, and aerthe cross comes the Resurrection"(messageto prayer group, 20.03.90).

Tis is Mary's request, so we can obtain,in Christ, the grace o salvation or themultitude o brothers "who haven't known

God's love." Says Mary: "oday I call youto oer up your crosses and suering ormy intentions. My children, oer up yoursuering as a gi to God so they can becomea most beautiul ower o joy. Pray, mychildren, to understand that suering canbecome joy, and the cross the way to joy"(25-09-1996).

Tis is also the "ulflment o the secretsbegun in Fatima"which Mary announced inMedjugorje (25 Aug. 1981); the importanceo which Blessed John Paul II had perceivedwhen he said, "Medjugorje is today thespiritual centre o the world" (c. p. 174,Perch santo, by S. Oder, postulator othe Cause or Beatifcation).

3of conversion. Then, for the faith to bestrengthened, one must begin to proceedalong a journey, because without the decisionto do so, the opening of the heart cannot leadto new life. The messages of Medjugorje areparticularly rich in this image of makingprogress, of deciding to advance. "Dearchildren, you do not desire moving forwardin this time when the Holy Spirit is workingin a special way. Your hearts are turned toearthly things, and this is holding you back"(09-05-1985). "My children, you talk much

about God, but you witness little with yourlife. For this reason, my children, decidefor conversion, that your life may be truebefore God and so that in the truth of yourlife you can witness to the beauty that Godhas granted you" (25-07-1996). "Repent, andbegin to live my messages, not with words, but with your life. That way you'll have thestrength, my children, to decide for the trueconversion of heart" (25-09-1998).

This decision needs constant checkingand purification: "When something is goodone needs to persevere in the good, and notthink: God doesn't see me, listen to me or helpme"(25-03-1992). "With an open heart, askyourselves sincerely if you desire the livingGod or if you desire setting Him aside to liveaccording to your own will" (02-06-2011).

For the heart to continue to open,it requires the strength and grace ofthe Sacraments, the Word of God andcommunion with the Church. All are crucialpoints in the teachings of Benedict XVI, andall are repeated in the messages. "The Massis the highest form of prayer. You will neverunderstand how great it is. Therefore, behumble and respectful during the celebration, and prepare yourselves for it with great care"(13-01-1984). "Spend as much time as possiblein prayer and adoration of Jesus in the mostblessed Sacrament, so He can change you andplace in your hearts a living faith, togetherwith the desire for eternal life" (25-03-2008)."Children, you do not know how to live in thegrace of God, therefore I call you all anew tocarry the Word of God in your hearts and inyour thoughts. My children, place the HolyScripture in a visible place in your families;and read it and live it" (25-08-1996).

The journey of the faith has its ownspace, which is within the community, within the Church, for it is she who gives usthe Sacraments, who leads us to the light ofthe Word of God, who safeguards the gift of

communion. The Church is the great family ofGod. It is one of the cornerstones of the Pope'smagisterium, and also of Mary's teachings atMedjugorje. "In discovering the Father, yourlife will be directed to carrying out Gods willand the realisation ofGods familyin the waythat my Son desires" (02-01-2011). "Prayer willlead you to the fulfilment of my desire, of mymission here with you, to the unity of Godsfamily" (02-02-2011). "I call you to gather intoGods family and be strengthened with theFathers strength. As individuals, my children, you cannot stop the evil that wants to reign inthis world, nor destroy it (02-08-2011).

The above messages clearly show us

the ecclesial dimension of the messages ofMedjugorje. Mary, Mother of the Church, desires gathering together God's familywhichwas entrusted to her (Jn 19:27) in the unityof faith, as at Pentecost which overcame thedispersion of Babel that not only divided men,but made them "dangerous for one another",as Benedict XVI has put it. MARIJA:Our Lady smiles at us!

Medjugorje seer, Marija, was presentor a prayer meetingheld at Cassola (N.E.Italy) on 22 Sept. 2012. he meeting beganat 3 pm with the recitation o the DivineMercy Chaplet, ollowed by the Rosary,Holy Mass and Adoration. Marija receivedher apparition at the usual time (6.40 pm)aterwhich she spoke to the crowd: "WhenOur Lady appears, she always says Praisedbe Jesus Christ, and I respond: Always mayJesus and Mary be praised! Our BlessedMother then responds with a smile. Aterthat, we usually remain silent, and wait orher to speak to us. I she doesn't say anythingwe begin to commend people to her. Alsotoday Our Lady remained in silence andlooked at us. Something I like to sayateran apparition is that we seers have seen OurLady (through no merit o our own!) but itis also true that She has seen all o you! andeven today, She looked at you, and blessedyou!"

Marija said that through Our Lady'sintercession, healings rom physicalillnesses, spiritual conversions anddeliverance rom substance abuse, etc., stillcontinue. Marija particularly stressed OurLady's request to pray: "his evening too,

when you go back home to your amilies, remember to pray, because without God

    there is no uture." BK

"Pray or Priests"Fr. Justo Antonio Lo Feudo

At Medjugorje, our BlessedMother has repeatedly asked thatwe pray for priests, and that wedo not criticize them.

It's not that we priests aren'treprehensible, or that we hold

the opposite; or in the same person oneusually inds a mix o good grain andweed. So, commendable pastoral actionsabide in us alongside indierence. hus,we aren't blameless, or we do things that

heMONH OF OCOBER is dedicatedto the Holy Rosary. o be truthful, theRoman Missal speaks of Mary of the MostHoly Rosary, which underlines its greatvalue. I often think of a message given in theearly years of the apparitions. It was the 25thJune 1985 and Marija had asked Our Ladyif there was something she wanted to say to

priests. After calling all of us to pray theRosary, because, "With the Rosary you canovercome all the obstacles that Satan ispresently causing in the catholic Church,"Mary then added that all priests should"pray the Rosary, to give space to the prayerof the Rosary."

Praying always means to humble oneself.Humility is the first virtue needed to pray.he prayer of the Rosary immediatelyhumbles us. When the Rosary is prayedtogether, it unites hearts and minds. Afamily that prays the daily Rosary willremain together. he Rosary - we learn from

the above message - overcomes all obstacles;it sustains us in trials; it grants peace tohearts. With Mary, Queen of Peace, I blessyou all.

aren't good. Without mentioning the greatscandals which are always deplorable, butwhich do not stain the majority o priests, there are always reasons and situations thataren't what they ought to be. For example, giving more importance to some peoplerather than others; doing things out ohabit; not being as spiritual as we ought;appearing worldly; having bouts o angeror impatience; not always being available tothose in need; keeping the church shut or

worship; neglecting the liturgy, etc. However and this applies to anyone, not

just priests - criticism isn't good or anyone;neither to those on the giving end or thereceiving end. Priests, however, more thancommon mortals, bear a treasure in jars oclay. What does this mean? hat togetherwith their human ragility, there is also thepriestly dignity that makes him, a man, another Christ.

A priest does not belong to himsel;he belongs to God. From the moment ohis ordination, it is not him who lives, but Christ who lives in him. he priest is

responsible or the proclamation o the aithin its integrity; he must help the people toknow and love God. he dignity o a priestis unique. He works through Christ torealize that which man cannot do, which isthe consecration o the bread and wine sothey become the real presence o the Lord, and the orgiveness o sins.

Priests are a wonderul git or theChurch and the world. Without them therecould not be the Eucharist, and without theEucharist the Lord could not be presentas He is; there could not be the Church.hrough the priestly ministry, the Lord

continues to save men; He continues beingpresent; He continues sanctiying. Hebrings light to our darkness through HisWord.

he aithul are called to support theirpriests; to be close to them with prayer, especially in diicult times, so that theycan be pastors according to God's heart. Finally, even i God - when judging Hispriests - will be demanding, because "towhom much is given, much is expected", atthe same time God is jealous o his chosenones [1]. hat is why Our Lady says to usto keep our mouths shut, i.e., not to judgepriests, but to open our hearts and pray orthem.

For example, whenOur Lady had given the message in May -and it was a bit sad - I had stopped to speakwith some pilgrims, and many asked mequestions like, when will the world change?when will the world understand? Very ewasked themselves: what should I do? Whenwill I change?

Tat hurt me, because we must beginwith ourselves. Aerwards we will be ableto change also the others. 25 June 2009

Jesus, Mary, I love You! Save priestly souls, save souls. We beseech you: Grant us to repeatthis Act of Love a thousand times, with ourevery breath, our every heartbeat. (Justine
