In our Preschoolers and Kindergarteners

· Our vision is that all children will have quality, developmentally appropriate experiences that support development in all domains: emotional, social, physical, cognitive, language and creative art forms while we encourage English language skills.

Teaching Philosophy· Our main goal as Preschool/Kindergarten teachers

is to effectively teach our students, creating in them a love for learning. We want our students to learn as they discover the world around them.

· We see ourselves as facilitators who provide a physical environment that is safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate and optimal for learning.

· We emphasize active learning. Our classroom are arranged to offer challenging play and learning choice.

Page 5: ECE Program Overview

· We use a variety of instructional strategies with the whole class, small groups and individuals.

· Differentiation is essential in our teaching. Each child is unique, each child learns in a different way.

· Maintaining a healthy relationship with the students it is necessary for successful teaching.

· We apply ongoing, authentic assessment practices to inform programming and improve learning.

· We welcome parents as valued partners in their children’s education.

· We are learners as well. We learn from our students.

Page 6: ECE Program Overview

· We see our teaching philosophy of education as being eclectic. Our philosophy has been shaped by those theories that have the children as the center, the main character in the learning-teaching process.

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery” Mark Van Doren

“Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another” Marva Collings

WHY HANDS-ON?I Tried to Teach My Child with Books;

He Gave Me Only Puzzled Looks.I Tried to Teach My Child with Words; They Passed Him by Often Unheard.

Despairingly, I Turned Aside;“How Shall I Teach this Child? I cried.

Into My Hand He Put the Key,“Come”, He Said, “Play with Me.”

PK2· The PK2 curriculum is designed to help your two-

year-old develop the social, emotional, self-help and physical development skills necessarry for future success. Although some academic concepts are introduced, the focus remains on each child’s development of an understanding of how she/he fits into her/his environment. Communication skills are a vital portion of preschool curriculum as children expand their vocabularies and assign meaning to new experiences.

Page 11: ECE Program Overview

PK2· Our PK2 program inspires your child to examine,

create, and share as he broadens his language through interactions with his teachers and classmates in a safe, nurturing environment. Sensory and repetitive activities transform these new experiences into knowledge.

· We also incorporate music, art and dramatic play to encourage or shape your child’s creativity and imagination. These educational preschool activities promote the development of physical skills, from running and jumping, to dressing and pre-writing.
