James Yorkston emerged from The Fence Collective. Today, eight albums, dozens of EPs,compilations, 7” singles, an exceptionally fine book, dozens of tours and performances later,he has joined forces with The Pictish Trail and Withered Hand for this special performance.

Johnny Lynch, aka The Pictish Trail, has extraordinary vocals which reveal hidden depths thatcan subdue the most rowdy of audiences into a blissfully hypnotised silence. He is also a self-deprecating hairy hobo whose on-stage banter could give many comedians a run for their money.

Withered Hand is Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter Dan Willson, With a wayward tenor andunaffected on-stage charm he has come to be a songwriter and lyricist of rare wit and remarkablehonesty, being described by Del Amitri’s Justin Currie as a Godlike Genius.

Rhapsody/The Two PigeonsAuditorium

This delightful Frederick Ashton double bill isscreened live from the Royal Opera House.

Frederick Ashton was Founder Choreographer ofThe Royal Ballet and his work defined the Englishstyle. In this programme the company celebratesAshton and his legacy in two contrasting works.

Rhapsody, created for Mikhail Baryshnikov in1980, is one of Ashton’s final works. It is acelebration of the male virtuoso – though Ashtonalso endows the principal female role withchoreography of breath-taking clarity and speed.

...Ballet on Screen

The production is a romantic setting ofRachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme ofPaganini and uses the music’s dark turbulenceand brilliance to inspire the dance.

The Two Pigeons, created in 1962 is a story ofa wayward young man blind to the value ofwhat is right in front him. Ashton explores thenature of love in one of his most charming, elegant and moving works.
