Year of Faith

October 11, 2012 – November 24, 2013

With the Apostolic Letter of 11 October 2011, Pope Benedict

XVI declared a Year of Faith. This year which began on

October 11, 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the

Second Ecumenical Vatican Council (Vatican II), will conclude

on 24 November 2013, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ,

Universal King (Pastoral Recommendations for the Year of

Faith, Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith).

The Year of Faith is a “summons to an authentic and renewed

conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world” (Porta

Fidei 6). In other words, the Year of Faith is an opportunity for

Catholics to experience a conversion – to turn back to Jesus and

enter into a deeper relationship with him. The “door of faith” is

opened at one’s baptism, but during this year Catholics are

called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover and

renew their relationship with Christ and his Church. (http://www.dioceseofjoliet.org/yearoffaith).

Furthermore, the Year of Faith will allow us to share in the

ministry of evangelization. By rediscovering and renewing our

relationship with Christ and His Church we will be better

prepared to share the Good News with others. For more detailed

information related to Pope Benedict’s Apostolic Letter and the

Year of Faith we invite you to visit:

http://www.annusfidei.va/content/novaevangelizatio/en/annus-

fidei/indicazioni-pastorali-per-l-anno-della-fede.html

And visit the site managed by The United States Conference of

Catholic Bishops site at: http://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-

teachings/how-we-teach/new-evangelization/year-of-faith/

Also remember the many programs available at St. Paul’s Inside

the Walls, a ministry under the direction and guidance of Fr.

Paul Manning which offers many enriching outreach and

training programs. A number of our Parishioners have attended

programs at the Madison-based facility. We encourage you to

visit the site shown below program information and course

registration. www.insidethewalls.org

Upcoming event: Series of Talks on Vatican II: During the

season of Pentecost we will be offering a series which will start

by discussing the events/climate that led to Vatican II and a

discussion of the remarkable ministry of Blessed Pope John

XXIII. The focus of the sessions will be on:“the Church's best

energies and studies with all earnestness how to have the message of salvation more readily welcomed by men.” (from

http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/pope0261i.htm - Blessed Pope John XXIII -

Address at the Opening of Vatican Council II - 11 October 1962)

Did you know…The logo for The Year of Faith “is composed of a

square, bordered field on which a boat,

symbolizing the Church, is represented as

sailing on a graphically minimal

representation of waves. The main mast of

the boat is a cross from which sails are

displayed in the form of dynamic signs

which compose the trigram of Christ

(IHS). The background to the sails is a sun

which, associated with the trigram, refers

also to the Eucharist.”

(from:http://www.annusfidei.va/content/novaevangelizatio/en/annus-fidei/logo.html)

EVERY WEDNESDAY

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Throughout the year, Jesus' Real Presence is celebrated for 12

hours, from 7:30am to 7:30pm at the Adoration

Room/Children's Prayer Room at St. Therese, through

exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and culminating with

Evening Prayer and Benediction. Come and be blessed! Stay

for an hour or even a few minutes. You'll be glad you came!

Evening Prayer & Benediction

7:00pm – 7:45pm in the church. You’re invited for Evening

Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours (also known as Vespers)

and Benediction. We will provide an easy to follow “script”.

A Message from our Pastor

Divine Mercy – Indeed one of the most beautiful attributes of

our God is His mercy. At one time or another, each of us has

been a privileged recipient of the mercy of God especially by

participation in the Sacrament of Penance. Moreover, we have

been graced with divine mercy as a result of fervent private

prayer. We should be so thankful for the goodness of God to

us. Truly, “God will not deny his mercy to anyone. Heaven

and earth may change, but God’s mercy will never be exhausted.” Saint Faustina Kowalska, Divine Mercy in My Soul.

Catholics all over the world celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday

on the first Sunday after Easter Sunday. It is a day of

extraordinary graces – a complete outpouring of His mercy

upon all who approach Him with great trust and expectant faith.

To properly celebrate this great day, we should prepare well.

The following are ways, as a parish and as individuals, we can

prepare well for this magnificent Sunday of abundant blessings:

1. Make the novena to the Divine Mercy.

2. Receive the Sacrament of Penance (confession), during the

season of Lent.

3. Attend the parish Eucharistic adoration on Wednesday

Evening, and pray for the mercy of the Lord.

4. Share your personal experiences of God’s great mercy with

those who are in need of such a special message.

5. Read the Diary of St. Maria Faustina.

6. During the days leading to Divine Mercy Sunday,

remember to pause for prayer during the 3 o’clock hour –

the hour of our Lord Jesus died on the cross.

7. Visit the following website to learn more about the

devotion of Divine Mercy:
