Easter Sunday

Exploring Our Faith O Happy Fault It was daunting when I realized my turn to write came on Easter Sunday. I read and studied all seven Readings from the Easter Vigil, the Exultat, the Baptismal Ceremony, the Epistles and Gospels. The "Exultat" sings in triumph, "O happy fault!" referring to the story in the Garden of Eden and the eating of the fruit of knowledge. The great Creation hymn that comprises the first reading (p. 349) is a prayerful reflection upon the knowledge given to Adam by Eve. I like to think that the Lord God was warning them of the dire consequences that would ensue when they began to shape their lives according to the brand new discovery they had made. (Genesis 3:14-24). All new discoveries include the end of the old ways and the beginning of their own end because all knowledge is partial and destined to be surpassed. I also believe that the story is based upon actual historical events that took place between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers some 5700 years ago. A new civilization began to grow there based on Inheritance from father to son. Records of possessions to be passed down were etched into clay as well as social and political rules. Government followed the family order of rule by the father over his wife and children. A well-organized society developed with an economy of herding and farming, and dynasties recorded for more than two millennia. Then, for some reason, Abraham (called "a wandering Aramean"-Deut.26:5-9) spread the knowledge about Inheritance throughout the Middle East, changing many of the traditions he came upon. I interpret the second reading (p. 355) as an example of the new form of religion replacing an old one. The centuries long sojourn in Egypt also led to clashes between the religion of Abraham and the ancient religion of the Egyptians, leading to the Exodus. After the transformation of the cuneiform tablets into papyrus scrolls, they were easily transported in the Ark of the Covenant. Much later, the scattered writings and traditions of the scattered tribes of Israel were compiled into the Book of the Law there in Babylon, where the leaders of Israel were forced to stay together. Without the suffering of the Babylonian Exile we would not have a Bible. After the long walk on the road to Emmaus when the disciples finally recognized Christ they asked, "Were not our hearts burning within us while He was...opening the Scriptures to us?" That question sends me to the seventh reading (p. 372): "I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will put my spirit within you." St. Paul asks, "Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death?" The prayer of Holy Mother Church during the baptismal ceremony includes these phrases: children of your promise, the grace of adoption, Abraham, father of nations. These phrases recall Paul's explanation that the promise to Abraham, not his rituals, was the foundation of the New Covenant. The waters of Baptism indicate a rebirth, imitating the water of the mother which breaks just before childbirth. At birth all children inherit gender, race, language, nationality, social status and the institutions that surround us. From birth we also participate in the hidden injustices of all social systems which can harden hearts to exclude "others" from benefits enjoyed by "Our Kind". Baptism breaks the chain of inheritance. Through baptism we "die" to our inheritance and become children of God, equal to one another before God.

Food Banks
Holy Family Church - The need is always great for items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, razors, toilet paper and deodorant. Also, rice, pasta, cereal and paper towels.
Holy Ghost and Immaculate Heart of Mary Churches - We gladly accept whatever is offered but right now, there is a need for facemasks (homemade are great!), cakes of soap, toothbrushes and shampoo. For the children’s lunches, we also really need drinking boxes and pudding and fruit cups. Thank you!
Did You Know? Jesus walks among us, unrecognized, all the time. When we are kind, when we listen to a stranger, when we invite people in and share a meal with them, then Christ makes himself visible and known in the breaking of the bread as he does in the Eucharist. (Pg 173, Sourcebook 2021)
World Water Day - Valuing Water
More than half the global population could be living in water-stressed regions by 2050 About four billion people experience severe water shortages for at least one month a year, and around 1.6 billion — almost a quarter of the world's population — have problems accessing a clean, safe water supply, according to the United Nations.
While the UN's sustainable development goals call for water and sanitation for all by 2030, the international organization says scarcity is increasing and more than half the people on Earth will be living in water-stressed regions by 2050. Please go to link for more information and check out the photos and also check out a short video, Reflection on Water, in our Laudato Si’ button on our website. (www.setmoncton.com)

Prayer for the Easter Season….in the midst of the pandemic
We are not people of fear, rather we are people of courage.
We are not people who protect our own safety, rather we are people who protect our neighbours’ safety.
We are your people God, giving and loving wherever we are, whatever it costs and for as long as it takes.
Amen
The Kadlu Family – Update - Back in mid-December, our faith community responded to a plea for help for a young family in crisis. A woman and mother, named Almas Kadlu, had recently lost her husband and was faced with raising their four children on her own, in a country that she barely knew and in a language that she had yet to learn.
Your response to her hardship was overwhelming, not only with money, which was sorely needed and greatly appreciated, but with your concern, your prayers and your offers of help in all ways imaginable. Today, Almas and the children are facing each day with hope and determination. The children are all in school, even the youngest Mustafa, brings his beautiful smile and participates in an integrated education program. The family is in close contact with both the Multicultural Association in Moncton (MAGMA) and with the Greater Moncton Down’s Syndrome Society. Many of our parishioners know and love the Daoud family, and they continue to befriend and translate for the family.
The road for the family is difficult, there is no doubt, but they are resilient and a strong family unit. They speak often of the beautiful church family – people they don’t even know! – who helped them and loved them in their
time of great need.
Parish Directory Update - So where are those parish directories anyway?? As you all know, COVID-19 worked its magic before Christmas and caused multiple delays in picture-taking. The company, Universal Portrait Studios, shuts down each year for January and February, and so as of March 1st, they have been back and working on our books! We expect to see the draft version in early April and once we’ve proof-read and made ‘em perfect, we will update everyone as to when they will be available. Thank you
for your ‘COVID-caused-it’ patience.
From the Diocese - OF COURSE! I’m interested in supporting my parish in a steady and continuous way. In that case, please don’t miss our Sunday gathering on the weekend of April 17th and 18th to discover a simple way to make your financial commitment to your parish. Standing together – Even 2 Metres Apart!
Please remember that if you come to the church/parish office for any reason, you must wear a mask and sign in with your contact information.
To watch any live-stream Mass, go to: • our website at www.setmoncton.com and click on the picture there or • go directly to our Facebook page (Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity parish)
Immediately after Mass, the video will be uploaded to YouTube. (SET Moncton)

Don’t forget to look for specially-marked envelopes starting the weekend of April 10th/11th. This will be a wondeful fundraiser for each of our four churches and should mean a nice ‘pot of money’
for one lucky person!
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church
As long as we remain in the Yellow Level, the regular meeting of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Ladies Society will take place on Tuesday, April 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the Dan Bohan Centre.
As long as we remain in the Yellow Level, the regular meeting of the Knights of Columbus Council 9270 will take place on Wednesday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the Dan Bohan Centre.
40 Cans for Lent! (closing April 5th!) You CAN donate to the cause through e-transfer, collection basket, mail in your cheque, any which way you wish, and each week we’ll translate that money into ‘virtual’ cans! You CAN still buy your cans while you do your grocery shopping but please, keep those cans at
home throughout the Lenten Season. Tuck them away, adding to your pile over the 40 days and the Knights will be ‘out-and-about’ at the end of March for pickup!
Together, we CAN do this – and not let COVID-19 derail this much-needed Lenten project!

Who is My Neighbour: Exploring Fratelli Tutti Written as COVID-19 erupted, Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis’ encyclical letter on the importance and necessity
of a global social friendship, was released in October 2020. In this letter, which offers a hope of opening a “dialogue among all people of good well,” for the building of a community that will sustain everyone, Francis invites us to “dream … as a single human family, as fellow travelers sharing the same flesh, as children of the same earth which is our common home, each of us bringing the richness of his or her beliefs and convictions, each of us with his or her own voice, brothers and sisters all.”
Dr. Andrew Wilson, associate professor of religious studies at Mount Allison University, Sackville, will explore the richness of this document, during a session on
Tuesday, April 20th beginning at 7:00 p.m.
at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. You are welcome to gather physically (all COVID-19 protocols will be respected) or virtually, for those not comfortable to join us in person. Please register with Ellen by Monday, April 19th and indicate whether you will be joining us physically or virtually.
4th Week of Lent ‘virtual count’ was an additional 193 cans!
Total so far:
860 cans
