ECQG Quilt Show 2021

Georgia Celebrates QuiltsQuilt Show 2021 update:  Plans for the 2021 Quilt Show are moving right along.

Raffle Quilt: The raffle quilt is done!  We are planning an unveiling at the meeting this month so make sure to tune in to Zoom.

Block Party: Make (safe) plans to share the love of quilting with our future quilters. Check out our webpage,  https://ecqg.com/quilt-show/ for block party information.

Postcards: Let your creativity shine while making postcards. This is a great way to make mini art pieces you can finish. Look for directions in the member section of our webpage, https://ecqg.com/member-log-in/ .

Quilt Entry: Our Quilt Entry Chair, Carolyn Powers, and Judging Chair, Stella Lang, have worked really hard to revise the entry rules and categories for the 2021 Quilt Show.  Here's Stella's announcement:

The updated Category List and Rules of Entry for Georgia Celebrates Quilts 2021 are now available on the guild website. If you are thinking about entering the show, please take a look at these documents.

Changes to the Rules of Entry clarify the meaning of guild membership and display options for quilts of different shapes. The rules of entry also list key dates, including quilt entry deadline, acceptance notification, quilt turn-in, and show dates. The rules also explain how ribbons are awarded.

The Quilt Show Steering Committee made changes to the categories based on previous judges’ comments and the guild’s desire to have categories that have similar number of quilts. In addition to describing the kind of quilt that belongs in each category, the category list specifies how many people are allowed to participate in making quilts in each category. For example, the Art-Abstract, Art-Realistic, Miniature, and Pieced-One Person categories require that quilts be made entirely by one person. Quilts in the Group category must be made by at least three people, and quilts in all the other categories made be made by one or two people.

As has been the practice in previous guild quilt shows, the jurying process may result in categories being divided or combined to result in category groups of similar size. The jury may split a category based on size of quilts and/or on number of people who made the quilt. For example, if there are 68 quilts in the Modern category with about half the quilts of smaller size and half larger, the jury is likely to split the category into Modern-Small and Modern-Large.

If you have questions about the rules and/or categories, pleasecontact Jurying/Judging Chair Stella Lang at [email protected].

Now is a great time to be working on your quilted treasures and consignment quilts for the "Quilt Store”.

Keep on quilting!Terri Taylor, 2021 Quilt Show Chair

In an effort to make all of the deltiologists, people who collect postcards,

happy at our next quilt show, we need your help making postcards.

Postcards were first patented in the US in 1861 and the period from 1907 to

1915 was referred to as the Golden Age of Postcards. Obviously, they were not

anticipating the East Cobb Quilt Guild beginning to sell postcards in 2013.

This time should be noted in history as pushing the uniqueness of postcards

to the limits…or something equally spectacular.

Please help the guild by contributing your quilted postcard art to be sold at

the 2021 quilt show. We will be collecting any completed postcard/art works

and distributing cardboard backing during the Community Quilt drop off on

Friday, October 2 from 10:00am to noon in the lower parking lot at St. Ann’s

Catholic Church. See you then.
