Letter From The President

Hi everyone, welcome to the 2015-2016 EBRS season. We have ahead of us another gratifying year of playing music together. As always, the lineup of conductors is excellent. I hope to see many of you at the first meeting on September 11 when Michelle Levy will conduct. Michelle will be a new face for many of you. She was introduced to us at Headlands when Peter Maund had to cancel his sessions. Michelle is a lovely person and a fine conductor. This first session will be a treat.

My summer was full of recorder playing—three SFEMS workshops and our EBRS summer play-in and picnic at Britt’s. It was intense but totally

rewarding. EBRS has another playing opportunity coming up October 10, our annual one-day collegium. This year it will be in a new venue, the Montclair Presbyterian Church, with a new conductor, Derek Tam. Derek has chosen some beautiful eastern European music to play and sing. You’ll find a flyer in this newsletter and you can sign up via our website if you prefer. Please plan to come.

The start of the season signals the time to renew your membership. It’s easy to renew online via our website (just google East Bay Recorder Society and you will find it) or print out the membership form included in this newsletter and bring your check in September. Your memberships support our monthly chapter meetings.

Happy playing everyone.

Susan Jaffe

President

Chapter Music Library Take Some Music Now, Donate Some Music Later

Don't forget to avail yourself of the free music that Glen Shannon brings to the chapter meetings. The Chapter Music Library is a free-for-all music exchange that serves the chapter membership by providing new music to take home, as well as a place to get rid of unwanted music taking up space in your own home. Donations are always gladly accepted — the one rule: published editions only, photocopies are not accepted. (All those stacks of copies from the latest workshops? No thanks- people don't take them home, so just recycle them.) The Music Library lives at Glen's house in El Cerrito and is open for perusal by appointment, and it is always set up at the chapter meetings that he can attend. Just look for the two big bins in the back. Glen doesn't keep records; just take it, it's free. You'll likely need to get rid of something else down the road sometime.
