December 2010 Cerritos Optimist Mouthpiece Jamie’s Optimist Notepad Thanks to all of you who attended the November 18 th meeting to hear our District representative for Personal Growth Involvement (PGI), Marie Durflinger on how to personally get what you want from the Optimist ex- perience. PGI “passports” to track your progress are now available through Wayne Switzer, our committee chairman for PGI. Our “Wine Tasting” fundraiser, chaired/hosted by Diana Needham, was a great success thanks to our sponsors and everyone who attended. James Kang is moving along with the “Essay“contest. Please let James know if you can lend a hand. December: The “Needy Families” program is already under way for the December distribution. Food and gifts gathered will be sorted at and distributed from the former Hollywood Video store, located on the northwest corner of Artesia Boulevard and Bloomfield Avenue in Cerritos, by Optimists, Soroptimists and Octagon Club mem- bers. Please do your part by volunteering for at least one of the activities! The Christmas party on December 16 th at the Cerritos Library will be hosted again this year by Ellen Latino. Ellen informed me that she has al- ready been in touch with Santa and he told her that he will be putting in an appearance at the party! The “Lights on the Boats” parade hosted by yours truly will be on Sunday, December 19 th . January: This year we are hoping to raise $2100.00 to sponsor the new ABC School District “Science Olympics”. Our first fundraiser will be a “Casino Bus Trip” on Thursday, January 27, 2011. The bus will leave at 8:30am, right after our breakfast meeting and will arrive back at about 5:30pm. The chairman for this event is our illus- trious past President Rick Renaker. Please lend him your assistance to make this a banner event. The cost of tickets will be $30. 00 for 1, $50.00 for 2 and includes breakfast at Off Street Cafe. Please watch your email for more information from Rick on this! PASSPORT

Wayne Switzer is the leader of the Passport program for the Cerritos Optimist Club. Please ask Wayne for a

Passport and see what level you can reach under the Personal Growth and Involvement Program. Many of you

old timers should be able to get to the Gold Level in no time.
