AROUND
4-r'thur Bevan, . Kurri's· 16 stone front rower played a magnificent game against Waratah. In additio:q. to landing 10 goals from 11 attempts (and that one hit the uprights), his all round general play wa§_ a feature of the match.
All Cessnock supporters were dis appointed to hear that popular half · back John Hemsworth has had a further setback with his injured leg. He now has it set in plaster, but he assures us that he won't be long before he will be back in harness once· again.
Don (Doc) Bland, has been showing good form with South thirds, as skippe,r Doc is proving a gret help to_ some of the younger players.
Cessnock treasurer Colin· Springbett is taking over a new job within the next couple of weeks an<l all wish him every success in his new employment.
THE CLUBS
Robbie ·Mace, North five eighth is continuing to play good football. Robbie who was .originally a half has settled down well in the new position and is playing a big part in the "blues" success.
Maitland fullback Kev Coleman is· playing grand football at present. New to this ·Club this season this player is sure to hold his position and also continue to show form which earned him his selection in the Newcastle rep. side.
I:>on Williams North hooker went extra well .in Sydney and won a good share of the ball. This display should clinch the hooker position for him in the Newcastle side against New Zealand.
Young Maitland centre Fred Humphries continues to please. Each game he plays he shows class and in the future will be an asset to our club.

Les Burgess, player and committee.-man is one of South's keenest work
ers for the club. Les has proved a :tower of strength for several years.
Players and supporters are again reminded of North's big Cabaret to
· be held on May 30th in Transport: Hall, Hamilton.
Joe Cordner's return to form is very pleasing to South an_d support
ers are_j;lappy in the manner in which .Joe has been landing the goals lately.
North's young reserve winger Joe Lewis continued to show improve
.ment in every game. His game last week in the Knockout was perhaps his best. The try he scored, running from half-way had a touch of real
· class about it.
Two boys making their first ap-pearance in grade ranks with South !.last week, Jim Clayton and Frank
Darcy turned in good displays, keep up the good work boys.
THE CLUBS
Cessnock lock forward· ·Barry Levido is seriously considering taking out a licence for an amateur jockey. The ''touts" at Cessnock race track claim that Barry rides a horse in a manner that Neville Sellwood couldn't better.
Have it from good information that Cessnock 3rd grade team manager "Wiffy" Smith is an ent_rant for ·the next rock and roll contest and having John the dentist to show him a few tricks he is sure to start a hot favourite.
Congratulations are tendered to Billy Owens of North on his representation in Country Firsts and all supporters will hope this is the firststep to a trip_ to England. ,
K. Vlall, Maitland Reserve wingerhas shown in the last two games that he will not be long _out of the senior side. Three grand tries against Cessnock gave promise of what this lad can do and augers well for the local team in the future.
