Internal/External EAL Instructor – Everyday English
POSITION: English as an Additional Language (EAL) Instructor (October 23-‐
December 15, 2017)
DEPARTMENT: MOSAIC Language Programs – MOSAIC English Language Institute (MELI) MELI runs fee-‐for-‐service programming for all visitors and newcomers to Canada.
POSITION FUNCTION: • Prepare learning objectives, lesson plans and curriculum to teach adult EAL based on students’ needs. Focus on English for everyday life in Canada. • Create a welcoming, and encouraging classroom environment. • Maintain student attendance records. • Assess and evaluate students using a variety of assessment tools. QUALIFICATIONS:
• Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or clearly documented equivalent. • At least 2 years’ experience teaching adult EAL, particularly using student-‐centered, task-‐based, participatory methods. • Highly organized, tactful, versatile, and flexible with excellent communication skills; Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of students including issues around parenting and women’s issues. Attitudes and values in keeping with the goals and philosophies of MOSAIC.
HOURS: 9:30-‐11:30 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6 hrs per week + prep
STARTING PAY: $25.89/hour starting wage for external candidates
