Empowering newcomers to fully participate in Canadian society Page 1 Internal/External EAL Instructor – Everyday English POSITION: English as an Additional Language (EAL) Instructor (October 23 December 15, 2017) DEPARTMENT : MOSAIC Language Programs – MOSAIC English Language Institute (MELI) MELI runs feeforservice programming for all visitors and newcomers to Canada. POSITION FUNCTION: • Prepare learning objectives, lesson plans and curriculum to teach adult EAL based on students’ needs. Focus on English for everyday life in Canada. • Create a welcoming, and encouraging classroom environment. • Maintain student attendance records. • Assess and evaluate students using a variety of assessment tools. QUALIFICATIONS : • Recognized undergraduate degree and a TESL Canada recognized TESL certificate or clearly documented equivalent. • At least 2 years’ experience teaching adult EAL, particularly using student centered, taskbased, participatory methods. • Highly organized, tactful, versatile, and flexible with excellent communication skills; Sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of students including issues around parenting and women’s issues. Attitudes and values in keeping with the goals and philosophies of MOSAIC.
