Connecting regions along the North Sea Baltic Corridor

Work Plan of NSB CoRe •  Improves the accessibility of cities, regions and industries. •  Connects the North Sea – Baltic Corridor (TEN-T) to its catchment

area, its connecting nodes and access routes. •  Communicates and facilitates between local, national and EU-level

decision-makers. •  Creates mechanisms to support private sector’s participation in multi

level governance of transportation and logistics. •  Implements the TEN--T Regulation from a regional development

perspective and brings the needs of peripheral regions to attention.

Work Package 2: Intermodal Logistics

Strives to increase interoperability between transport modes to support the optimal supply of services and modal split in freight traffic. •  Collecting the experience from transport operators on bottlenecks

and cross-border problems from an operative perspective. •  Creation of a ranking model of logistics services and analysis of

nodal points. •  Evaluation of technologies and applications of ITS that serve the

international supply chain. •  Interoperability of traffic modes, infrastructure, seaport connections

and other nodal points: intermodal terminal and last mile, interoperability between the future freight villages.

Target groups: operators, customers in transport and logistics, policy makers.

Uudenmaan liitto // Nylands förbund // Helsinki-Uusimaa Region

Work Package 3: Commuting Growth Corridors

Forms the transnational distribution platform for ITS and best practices in long distance commuting. •  Analysis of the selected sections on the Corridor using

common parameters. •  Benchmarking ITS pilot services to connect long-distance

transport to urban transport. •  Joint learning on commuting corridors, joint actions towards

EU policy making. •  Managing long-distance coach services in cities and

metropolitan areas, synergies of multimodality. •  Cross-border rail service improvement. Target groups: commuters, ITS operators, passenger transport operators, planning authorities

Uudenmaan liitto // Nylands förbund // Helsinki-Uusimaa Region

Work Package 4: Spatial Planning Addresses cross-border bottlenecks on the Corridor, analyzes regional plans and provides spatial planning solutions to improve coherence of the plans. •  Preparation of a transnational joint vision on regional

development, logistics and mobility: strengths, weaknesses and key players.

•  The vision is documented by the thematic cluster of urban and regional planners in transport.

•  Workshops and focused cross-border surveys on spatial planning themes.

•  Project will synchronize the Corridor with its access nodes and peripheral regions.

Target groups: urban and regional planners, policy-makers, regional decision-makers, VASAB ministerial meeting.

Work Package 5: Branding and community building

Synchronize project results in transnational stakeholder cooperation and develop Rail Baltic branding. •  Case Rail Baltic as a branding exercise is used to increase

public awareness of the infrastructure project and to initiate demand. Development of a branding model of RB for potential public and business customers.

•  Transnational roundtable meetings for policy-makers, industries, other stakeholders.

•  Project results in logistics, commuting, spatial planning and transport branding are presented to test their validity and relevance and to support the applicability to other environments.

Target groups: citizens, export and import industries, transport stakeholders
