Dear Members I am excited and enthusiastic about taking on the leadership role as President of CalRTA Division 75. We will be facing many challenges this year, and I have acquired an outstanding Board of Directors and dedicated Committee Chairs to support me. As I envision this 2020-2021 CalRTA fiscal year, we need to:

• BE SAFE: Follow the good health guidelines in your community.

• BE FLEXIBLE: Understand that meetings will be different than previously.

• BE BRAVE: Be open to new ideas and begin thinking “Outside the Box”.

• BE POSITIVE: Look for creative solutions to problems and move forward.

• BE CONNECTED: Talk to each other and increase membership.

HATS OFF TO YOU, DIVISION 75! I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE “FACE-TO-FACE” LUNCHEONS & MEETINGS SO I CAN

SEE YOU AGAIN! Kathy

WE ARE SO CLOSE! / LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Tell Congress to Repeal the WEP/GPO Penalties

1. Make Your Voice Heard: Each Week the Government Relations Committee (GRC)

sends out three legislative alerts. Open a GRC Email and there will be a list of ten

representatives / senators. Each will have a link to an aide who tallies responses

received. Click on contact’s name, and a message appears. Sign your name and press Send! Takes less

than 10 minutes to be heard. IT’S EASY!

2. We are So Close: All we need are 38 more representatives and we will have two thirds of the House on

our side. This will force a vote to repeal WEP and GPO penalties!

3. Get the Alerts: If you are not receiving GRC alerts, send an email to: [email protected]

4. Sign the Petition: Moveon.org is an advocacy organization which supports social security fairness by

eliminating Social Security’s WEP and GPO. They have over 50,000 signatures. Please sign the petition.

Go to: https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/elimination-of-the-unfair. Thanks, Sandy Edwards, GRC Chair

IS YOUR SPOUSE A CALRTA MEMBER?

the affairs of retired educators can be a member of

CalRTA. Your spouse (even if they never taught a day in

their life) has an interest in your pension! They can join

and you can have their dues deducted from your STRS

check. You simply enter your social security number

when filling out their membership application.

Sept. - Oct. 2020

• All Cruise travel and European travel have been suspended. Day trips will be postponed. Travelers have received refunds for cancelled trips for this year.

• My tips for travel if you love it like I do: Reread your travel journals. I have reread several of mine from 1967, 1971, 1996, 1997, and 2003 so far. This brought back many pleasant memories.

• Revisit and sort through your travel photos.
