Praise the Lord for the 1603 filledshoeboxes! What a blessing spirit-

ually and mentally for the children

and what a wonderful activity forus, to put Christmas in the properperspective.

I had the opportunity to go toBoone Processing Center in late

November. They process roughly50,000 shoeboxes per day. On the

days I was there, the boxes were

going to Chad and Burkina Faso,

both countires in Africa. Twothings I saw there: for every car-ton box of age 2-4 and 10-14,

there are 4 cartons of 59 agegroup. As I was processing boxes,

many that were marked 5-9 could

have easily been a 10-14 box aswell. Remember that next year as

you fill shoeboxes to help even thedistribution for all age groups.

The second thing I saw was whileI was working at the shoebox

hospital. If a box is damaged or

wet (broken bubbles or leakyshampoo bottles), they are sentto the shoebox hospital. Plastic

boxes were our most frequentpatient. Out of every 20 boxesthat came our way, 19 were

broken plastic boxes. The lids are

broken or the boxes are broken. All the items have to be taken out

    and repacked into basic un-

wrapped shoeboxes. If you wantto use a plastic box, make sureyou invest in one that will

withstand the stress and strain of

being in a carton with a minimumof 14 shoeboxes.

Thank you once again for all of

your help this year and dont for-get to bring in empty shoeboxes

    for next year. Linda

Deacon of the Week: Elwood Johnston 434.237.1349

Who is it?A Sunday school teacher asked her class of kindergarteners to draw pictures of the mangerscene at Bethlehem. The children quickly and eagerly began to color. The teacher walked

around the room observing each picture in progress. She was puzzled by something she saw

in one little boys picture. In one of its corners was a very plump, jolly-looking fellow.Bobby, whos this person? she asked, pointing to the portly character.

Why, thats Round John Virgin! Bobby replied.

Many times we are asked, Who is mydeacon?

To help you, we will list the Deacon of

the Week and his list of families in the

    WLBC Bulletin ENewsletter. There will

be a complete list posted on the bulletin

board near the church office. This

complete list is alphabetical by your last

name. We hope this will help you know

who your deacon is for the year. If you

have any questions, please feel free to

    contact the church office.
