Scouting in exile
1940-44 War years! Unsuccessfull attempts to incorporate and abolish the movement. 1945 Hungary falls under Soviet occupation. The Hungarian Scout Association and the Hungarian Girl Guide Association are re-established. In the West-European refugee camps scout work restarts as well. 1946 Communist takeover of power is weltering in Hungary. The suppress of the scouting is beginning. 1951 The Hungarian Scout Association in Exile moves it’s head quarter to New York, USA. In Europe, North and South America, as well as in Australia Hungarian scout groups are founded.1956 Revolution against the communist oppression breaks out in Hungary but is soon brutally crushed. 200 000 Hungarians flee the country.1960s The standard of leaders’ training is worked out in the Hungarian Scouts Association in Exile. Foundation of the scout park in Fillmore. First Jubilee Camp in the USA.1988 The re-organization of scouting starts in Hungary.
1947 200 Hungarian scout participating in the VI. World Scout Jamboree 14 refugee Hungarian leaders - the “Homeless Eagles” - start to organize scouting in Germany. 1948 Scouting is banned in Hungary. Some continue their work illegally.1949 National camp in Landau, Germany. Emigration of Hungarians out of Europe starts. The first group overseas is founded in Rio de Janeiro.
